Came home today and found an official letter from DCL saying that they will be paying that extra $100 they told us about, so our ship statemments will be showing the new balance shortly.

:sad1: :sad1:

Still no letter here...

I guess I shouldn't complain, they did e-mail me first. Maybe it takes a while to get to CA from FL?

I'm so glad I posted the passport question yesterday. I had second thoughts about posting it because it seemed so silly.

I called SC's vital records office this afternoon. I was told that it would take 2 to 3 months to have the O changed to an A.:scared1:

I have to send them a letter requesting the change. As soon as the change is made, they send out a new certified BC.

So it looks like I can't get started on my passport until December. I think I'll the advice here and start working on Tyreak's now. Since he's 15, they don't require both his dad and I to sign the form. This is a good thing since he lives in NC.:rotfl:

I think I'm going to have Tyreak's dad sign (and get notarized) a letter giving me permission to travel outside of the country with him whenever I see fit.

A friend told me this is bit much, but I don't want to have any problems.

Don't feel bad about the driving thing. I didn't get mine till I was 45. Had my permit for over 10yrs but never got behind the wheel. I used to have terrible panic attacks. Got on some happy pills amd I don't have them anymore, still get anxious sometimes. I used a State Issued ID as well. You should be able to get one at your local DMV.

My mom didn't learn to drive until she was 50. I hope to learn by my next birthday. (January 17):wizard:

Just bite the bullet and do it now Chrissie.:goodvibes If you run into problems, you could be cutting things too close. To book the excursions and your final depost, you need your passport before the 90 days out.

Oh my, I didn't know this!:scared1:

We're waiting for our connecting flight to Paris. Free WiFi in the airport. Thought I'd get caught up for the last time. Probably won't be back for 3 weeks now. Maybe during one of my sea days I might check in. However, I've got several tastings planned for those days, so who knows.....wine tasting, beer tasting, martini tasting, tequila tasting and most importantly RUM tasting.....darn, forgot to get a designated walker for this trp.

Enjoy your trip Monica:yay:

That would be particularly spooky if you were dressed as Tia Dalma that night.

It might not be that big a deal. Think about it. I bet most adult women don't have the exact same name they were born with. I changed my last name when I got married & no one has ever asked to see my marriage license to prove that Michelle Rene XXXXXXXXX is now legally Michelle Rene YYYYY.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Suffering from Bobcat delusions, Joel?

I had the pleasure of attending that fine university during the (then) longest losing streak in NCAA D-1 history. We beat Kent freeking State my senior year and tore down the goal posts. You'da though we won the BCS-Pick-A-Bowl.

But, nevertheless...

GO BOBCATS!

yeah, it would take me four hours to find & insert a picture of a raised hand.
So, Consider my hand raised :thumbsup2
That counts! :)

Thanks for all the passport help.:flower3:

Of course another issue popped up.:sad2:

The State of South Carolina issues small, credit card size BCs. There isn't a seal on the darn thing.

I called one of my aunts last night since she and her husband just went through the passport process last year.(both were born in SC) They didn't have any problems with their BCs.

On top of all of this, the passport application says I need someone to appear with me to vouch for who I am. Why? I don't have the proper government issued ID. See, I'll be 40 in January, but I never learned to drive. According to the application I can't present my permit as ID.

I call another (thank goodness my mom has so many sisters:rotfl2: ) aunt who never learned to drive but has a passport. She was able to use her nondriver ID card which was issued by DMV. She said the agent never questioned it, so maybe it's common here. So she doesn't have a driver's license and her BC doesn't have an official seal(yup, she was born in SC) yet she has a passport.

She recommended that I do everything at the main post office downtown Brooklyn.

I had planned to get the ball rolling around Christmas. I'm going to start in October.
Our state (or atleast my county or something) also gives out the card sized BC's. I had to get new ones for my kids for the last cruise (well didn't have to- but I didn't want to take them out of their baby books and chance losing them and all that) and ours have raised seals under the plasticy outside of the cards. Why don't yours have the seal? It's not an official BC if it doesn't have the seal!!!

Have you applied for the "non-military" passport yet? They required my DW to submit a certified (raised seal) version of marriage cert along with birth cert (that was last summer)

Okay what all is needed for a passport? If a marriage cert is required- it's going to look weird because get this... we've married, divorced and remarried. I have lost our original marriage license and our 2nd one has my last name the same as Jeff's! (because I had not gone back to my maiden name. Our divorce was final and we were back together 2 mo after the divorce was final. We lived "as married" -common law or whatever- for a few years before I would marry him again.) But now our most recent marriage license, and the only one I have, shows both our last names the same and my last name is NOT my maiden one.
So I'm going to have a BC with my named spelled Shelly, my DL/SS/etc. is spelled Shelley AND my marriage license is going to show my married last name instead of my maiden last name.
ugh

Did you guys book a DL hotel yet?

I looked at the DL hotel and it was $600 for two nights. When I added park tickets the price went to $1450 :scared1:

They must be smokin crack at DL :rotfl:
Yes, most definitely smokin' da crack!

I keep going back & forth with the few extra days in the park. I booked the cat 8 right at my "walk away price". Based on that I decided not to do the DL parks. But, I'm not sure if we'll get back to the DL area any time in the next 5 years.

So it's the struggle of the prudent Lisa v.s. the carefree Lisa.

I say go with carefree Lisa. This is a TOAL remember!

Way to go!

You have until mid-sept to make this decision as that is when airfare comes on line, so if you want to be ready to pounce on cheat airfare, you need to be ready then...
cheat airfare?

Hi, Everyone ~

Just like everyone on this board, we're excited about the August 2008 cruise through the PC! This itinerary was announced while we were on another cruise so we put in a paper reservation for it and were lucky enough to get a stateroom for this cruise.

I also talked some friends who had never been on a cruise to join us and they made a reservation online on that crazy morning when reservations started. Anyway, they are pretty sure they can't go now. I know there is a long waitlist for this cruise. Is there any word about how many people are waiting? I was just curious.
Welcome to our group- post when you can!

Happy Birthday Shannon

Happy birthday from me too!

If you don't have a passport, consider the following:

  • The passports are granted by the Department of State but the use is regulated by the Department of Homeland Security. DHS is constantly in a state of flux. Recent news articles have shown that 30% or more of upper management is vacant. This means there is little policy continuity and more tendency to change mind on issues. DHS is also under regular fire and threat of reorganization from Congress.
  • DCL will not let you on the ship without a passport since the ship will be stopping in a non-Carribean foreign port.
  • The current advertised wait for a passport is 10-12 weeks - translated, that is three months. Fellow cruisers have had their passports take 16 weeks to arrive (4 months). If there is a problem, add to that time.
  • Three months pre-cruise is the refund cut off date for all categories. Wouldn't it be better to have the passport in hand at that time?
  • The REAL-ID act implementation takes effect in 2008. This may impact your ability to get a passport as having an approved state ID is a pre-requisite to getting a passport. If your state is refusing to comply with the federal mandate, you may have extra hoops to jump through to get your passport.

Okay so even if a passport is NOT required (by some miracle) by the govt- DCL will still require it?
And our IDs are getting changed and that might cause problems getting a passport later on?
All this info is giving me a major migraine.

We just got one in our post office about two years ago....not even that long, I don't think. And we only have post office mail delivery...not street delivery, so I would have thought they'd offer us that a long time ago.

Have fun on your trip! From the sounds of all the "tastings" you have planned- you're bound to have fun. LOL

I renewed DD passport nearly 15 weeks ago. We're suppose to be travelling on the repo this Friday and her passport still has not arrived yet!:confused3  :headache:

OMG.... I hope you get it in time! Is it really needed at this time though? Can you go without the passport?

Came home today and found an official letter from DCL saying that they will be paying that extra $100 they told us about, so our ship statemments will be showing the new balance shortly.

I got an email from DU last week and it reflected the change in the balance then.

Poor BIP. As I understand the information flood, because we're calling at a South American country the government will require us to have passports - even though there's some doubt about Mexico & the Carribean. Unless DCL cancels our stop at Cartagena, Colombia we MUST have passports.

You may now resume banging your head against the wall.

That's 'cause :tink:Dreams Rocks

Great weather for the kids, I ended up helping a friend with a contruction project so I was stuck indoors...

Did you catch the meteor shower?

I missed it. I went out twice but didnt catch any of it.

Way to go wench!!!!!!

Letter arrived from DCL they are paying the $100 Panama Canal fee as a good will gesture for all those who booked the Cruise, East & West. All charges will be removed within 10 to 14 days.

Got mine today too!!!

First RELAX!

When you go to apply for passport you are going to need both youf birth certificate and marriage license. Because of your circumstances, I would also bring the original marriage license (if you still have it) and the divorce decree and the recent marriage license. I'm sure that the goverment gets situations like this all the time!

Regarding raised seals on birth certificates - mine doesn't have a raised seal on it and I didn't have a problem getting my passport last year. My bc is actually black background with white letters on it, maybe that's why they let it pass.

Good luck!

:sad1: :sad1:

Still no letter here...

I guess I shouldn't complain, they did e-mail me first. Maybe it takes a while to get to CA from FL?

Nothing "official" here either. But I did check my ressie on the DU site and it has been taken off the balance.

We can definitely wait until after the rush for my husband. He's not going on the Canal cruise, but we are going on NCL at Christmas and the Mexican Riviera with the Magic in June....but on the manifest, as on his airline tix and all....he's listed as "J"....which is what his passport says and his driver's license, social security card, etc.
That's what was so weird about him getting a passport with just the "J" ....because the only thing left anymore that has his full name is his birth certificate.

What I was saying is that eventually, I want him to put it all back to his full name. But that process will take a while considering social security and all.
I just always have to be careful to get his plane tickets and the ressies on the ship under just the "J"....and I'm tired of doing that. I want it ALL to be the same.

I understand what you are saying. Funny thing is, DCL is the ONLY place where I have had a problem with my passport having my full name (John Raymond) while my ticket says "J. R.". I've flown to Argentina, Thailand, the UK, Hong Kong and mainland China, and even third-world places like Little Rock, Arkansas, with no issues, but I threw the guy at DCL for a loop checking in because the names did not match.

OK... How about this one?

How many pirates does it take to change a light bulb?

Four. One to change the light bulb, and two to resuscitate the forth pirate who got his hook caught in the socket!

:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:

I see from reading Cheryl's post (10 pages ago) what you guys are saying. Not so much just to be sure Jay's name matches, but because of the "wanted guy". We've never had any trouble with having all of his documents with just the "J" and the last name until this guy stole a car and ran out on bail.
But the funny thing is, no one ever cares when we leave the country....we only get stopped coming back IN to the country. And in Miami....until they contacted the county where the guy stole the car....all they were going to do is hold Jay until the other county told them what to do. Which we found out later is illegal. So now we don't have as much of a problem with it....but I definitely want to change it eventually.

I have a friend who's name matches a threat to security and can not fly person. Our poor friend is stopped and kept to the side til security figures out he is not the "dangerous" other person.

I renewed DD passport nearly 15 weeks ago. We're suppose to be travelling on the repo this Friday and her passport still has not arrived yet!:confused3  :headache:

I would call tonight and the governement will Fed EX it over night to you free of charge. You need at least 24 hour time frame to do this. :grouphug:

Anything can throw DCL for a loop.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Are you back from trip?????? :confused3 Did you have a great time??? Tell me what was knew and interesting???:confused3 Did you see the Dream Squad??? I guess that is enough questions this post.:lmao:

You're talking about my dh!!! :rotfl:

Yes, his name is the same as one on the *watch list*. American Airlines told me that I shouldn't have our ressies with his -- there is a chance that one of these days he won't be allowed to fly. :scared1:

It takes us at least an hour sometimes longer at the counter before we are allowed through........

Y'all have a great week! The kids and I are headed out on our ABD early tomorrow morning and I still have to finish packing.....

I was going to do it last night but, SOMEONE kept me on the phone for so long that I had to put the charger in to keep talking and I was stuck sitting on the floor instead of in my room ironing and packing! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

See y'all later!

I didn't need my marriage license when I applied for my passport, I just used bc and driver's license. Also several years ago when we started cruising and needed our bc, I ordered 2 copies of each one. It has always just made me feel better :)

Happy Birthday Shannon!

I am sorry you did not get everything packed last night. I was worth talking to....Right????:confused3 We just need to talk more often so we do not have marathon phone calls. I got an e-mail from Amy. She is alive and well.:rotfl2:

Have a great trip and since I do not anyone else who has taken a ABD...we want details!!!!! Say hi to Brain and Samantha for me!!!:flower3:
