Wow! Looks like everyone has been busy with their costumes. Very nice. I guess I should get motivated too, I think I bought a pattern a while ago.

Andrew welcome back and your pics are awesome! Glad you had a good time.

We had a bad storm go through in 1980 (during the Republican convention). It took down alot of trees. My mom was at A&P talking on the phone, which was in front of the store, watching all the trees in the median strip sway horizontal. I finally told her to get away from the windows! My dad and I were at home and we were just watching it. They said it wasn't a tornado, but after wards it looked like it.

I use to be the idiot who would stand on the porch and watch the bad weather. After dd was born we had a bad storm and for the 1st time ever went in the basement. When I came back up I looked out and saw a large bush in front of the porch. After I looked at it better, it was the top of a huge tree 2 houses down, that missed my porch/house by about a foot! Now when we have any kind of storm dd freaks!:scared1:

Good morning folks! Hopefully those of us in the NE won't roast again today!

Working on my Mr. Cotton as well. First attempt was from our recent Wonder trip. DW made the shirt. Will need to get a different color scarf and a vest by next year. Sorry for the scary look. :scared1: Also need to smug up my face a bit.

Roger, in all seriousness, I thought that the 2 pictures were of the same man during the different stages of make-up and costuming. :thumbsup2

Oh, I like that! Can I borrow that?
Feel free Tina! My DD is 'motivationally challenged' most of the time. One of my dear friends is a child psych and she HATES when parents use that term. So, being silver tongued (or forked, depending on my mood), I came up with that phrase soas not to offend.

Welcome home Andrew. What absolutely awesome pics!!! Please share more!

Congrats on the job and the car M! No crisis whatsoever...just enjoy what you can when you can, KWIM?

Welcome home Paula! Glad you had a safe trip and enjoyed the big apple.

Sara...that is a really awesome photo! :thumbsup2

OK, tell me more, Hair Mascara???? I was going to ask you anyway how to make some of my dreads blond. Not sure if I'll have time to do it for this trip though. Also, not going to be able to distress the whole outfit for this go around. But for the PC repo, it'll be better.

Here's the skirt and belt as of today. Belt is still being worked on. Too fuzzy right now.

Bodice is being finsihed by my mom. Hopefully tomorrow.

Yep Hair Mascara ...havnet tried it yet but I will today ....

Forgive me, but I need to return a groundhog from yesterday and talk a little about mid-life crisis. 29 was hard for me, but after my 30th b-day I realized that BEING 30 was far easier than TURNING 30 ;) This year I have reapped the benefits of my DH turning 40 ... we went on a 2 week vacation in April that included a 4 day DCL trip to the Bahamas and 6 days at WDW. In June, DH bought ME a really snazzy new sports car :cool1: When someone comments on the car I just smile and say, "It's DH's cleverly veilled mid-life crisis" ... and then I put the top down and drive away

Ok, now the costume talk can resume ... pirate:

Have a great day everyone!

Hey Cap'n and Crew...

All of these photos and talk of costumes got me to wondering.... are there any 'good' POC costumes for kids? I am seriously thinking about making my DD the monkey.:rolleyes1 When I asked her about it she said "I don't think so". I thought for sure she'd think it was neat, but I guess we're approaching SPT a little early. (She's 8.)

OK, last time a speak of EARTHQuakes :scared1: on this thread. So at 1am last night a 4.5 hit about 12 miles from us. Got DW, DD12 and I out of bed. On the relative scale of things it was only a medium shaker but brings back memories of the big one in 1994. It was DD12 first experience with this size earthquake and she was freaked out. :scared: No damage, it was too small but big enough to keep us awake for a long time last night.

Welcome home Paula! I'm so glad you had a good time in my home-town!

The costumes look awesome!

Roger, I'm glad that wasn't the big one, sorry that your DD was freaked out though.

I was wondering about our CA friends when I saw the notification in my in-box this a.m.

Glad to hear you are all fine...

You guys are all so talented! Seeing all your wonderful creations for pirate night is making me wonder more whether i should turn to sewing! Then again I struggle to keep up with the usual mending & sewing on of badges & name tapes so maybe we'll just stick with the costumes we bought for last year. Both the girls are getting minnie mouse pirate costumes as part of their xmas pressies, so I'm relying on you all to keep the secret for the next 4.5 months!!!

She slept through the whole thing, which was a good thing.

That's a very good thing! I wish Kylie would sleep through the thunderstorms we get.....we usually end up with everyone in our room on those nights.

Sorry about the loss of sleep. Glad everyone's ok though.
My DS has been bummed because he never feels the quakes. I think if he really did, he'd freak.

Depends on what you call good .....anything that is mass produced wont be really good in my eyes , but thats me , I am a details person ....As far as Jack the Monkey , that would be great , but I would think you would need someone to make that ...check ebay you might be able to find some good stuff there ...

I know what you mean... I majored in Dramatic Arts (with a costuming emphasis), and I am totally unable to buy my DD halloween costumes. They all look so wrong to me. Last year (since my sewing time is pretty limited right now), I modified a flowergirl dress into a Cinderella costume - one of the kids we passed while tricker treating said, "mommy, there's the *real* Cinderella." That made my day.

Try living down here with me! :lmao: Although, we haven't heard the sirens yet this year.

Bite your tongue!!!!

another poster in Tornado alley......

A few years back I read an article that stated that my county held the record for most insurance dollars spent because of natural disasters...

ITA with you about the mass produced costumes. While I can sew, I am by no means as good as yourself, Monica or Pete. But I'm willing to give it a shot. Now I just have to find a good picture to refer to ... off to search the net.

Glad everyone is OK. We have had a couple of wimpy ones here in MI, but still weird for the mid-west. My dad was in CA when the Tehachpai eathquake struck in 1952. If it wasn't for that quake I might not be here. After that one, he had enough of eathquakes and moved back to MI. Not sure where they were living, around LA I think, but my half brother was a little over one year old and was born in Burbank.
