Congrats on less than 1000 days. :cloud9: That is quite an accomplishment!!!:woohoo:
Did you count leap year?????:lmao: :lmao: I think we have 1632 days left:sad1:

Yes, February 29, 2008 is included in the countdown!!!

So what kind of medicine does the doctor give for shingles??? I just hear it was very painful!!! I did not know it itches too!!:sad1:

I am taking Famvir 500mg(3x a day), which is an antiviral medication, and Lyrica 75mg(2x a day) for the pain/itching.

I saw your post just as I was getting ready to shut down my laptop for the night, my answers are above in red Cheryl. The Lyrica is the med that makes me groggy, and since I just took it a short time ago, that's why I'm now heading off to bed.........:faint:

Yes, quiet before the storm??????:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I sent Pam the info.:thumbsup2 I hope she gets back to you soon!!!:flower3:

Got it and taken care of.

WOW, you have 269.493151 years left Tom before you can retire, I feel bad for you...........:rolleyes1

OK, now I'm starting to sound like Crash, I'm signing off for the night and I mean it this time..............;)

Retire?

I was going to die at work.....

(ok i guess i have 596,726 +/- hours before i can retire with pension for the county...)

However, after 10 yrs...If i die, my DH can collect my pension...How nice of me?

Sometimes it just feels like 269 years...... (hey, only 21 years if I want lifetime medical - of course then I'll be medicare eligible....).

Since Crash is on the road, someone has to sign off repeatedly.

Flew through your area today Andy (was actually down in Brack's neck of woods - Baltimore) at a meeting, the chair of which was from Gloucester, Camden County and on way home was flying up 295 thinking "Andy is near here somewhere..."

I'm worth more dead than alive..... please don't tell DW....

Between work insurance, my personal insurance, etc., she could pay off house and substantial contribution to kids college accounts....

Yeah...me too except for the pension....

I was counting up what DH would collect if i had died in surgery in February.

After looking at the total of what him and DD would get in insurance and SS (even without my county pension)...I decided he wasn't that lucky...:lmao:

SO i didn't worry so much.

My Mother and DD REALLY want a miniature horse. Is this the kind that you can keep in town? That picture is precious.

Gosh this thing is slllloooowww tonight! Yes, you can keep these in a large backyard. They'll live as long as a full size horse, 20-30 years.

Hi Debi,
First - loved your pic's!! You & Kev have been together just a few years more than Paul & I - when he was Younger he used to race motorcycles. (they Scare me)
OH - the mini horses - I spent my summers' at my grandparents ranch and got to ride the working quarter horses. I then had my own horses - my last quarter horse died at 31 yrs. But - I wonder - when people adopt these little horses - do they treat them as horses or as house pets? I woud guess that although small - they are horses and respond as such ??!! The pics you've shared are precious.
We had a shetland pony when my kids were young - he was such a character- my toy poodle used to sit on him while I cleaned the corral. Oh enough - I'll go on & on w/animal stories.
but - thanks for sharing the pics

Well Tom...

.. at this rate it will take you 269.5 years to achieve retirement. So may I make a recommendation... if you would just reduce the sum you wanted to accumulate for retirement by say - 25x then you could retire in 10.78 years! So ... really now.... did you really need $100,000,000 for retirement? The general rule of thumb for a nondeclining lump sum in retirement is you can take about 3% of your savings... so the 100,000,000 would have enabled you to spend $3,000,000 net a year - or $250,000 a month - or about $8,333 a day. And that is a lot to spend every single day if ya ask me.

Now if we were to reduce the nest egg by a factor of 25 to say $4,000,000 ... you could spend about $120,000 a year - or about $10,000 a month. That's a modest $333.33 a day ... plus you'd have your social security too. So add $994 per month - which is the current maximum payment for a couple in 2007. I can't really say WHEN you'll retire or WHAT the SSI max will be then - or even if the system is working as we envision it today. It might be bankrupt according to some pundits.

At any rate - I'd like to think you'd have something north of $11,000 a month to spend in retirement with a maxed out SSI and $4KK in the "bank". And this lump sum would be inflation adjusting and non-declining. SO you could pass it on to your heirs or a charity of proper merit or the church. You could set it up as a self perpetuating gift to the organization or individual(s) of your choice.

mktchart3.gif

So.... maybe 269 years seems far off.... no problem - just crank down the target a little to a realistic but managable level. Achieve an accumulation of $4KK in a little over 10 years and you'll be "done". How pleasant, eh? <chuckles> And if you're not quite on track with this - there's always the super lotto right?

On a more serious note - I had some friends suggest they wanted to accumulate $10,000,000 before they retired - and I had to muse ... why so much? That would enable dumping $300,000 a year with a non-declining inflation adjusting sum. I guess $25,000 a month is a nice sum to have as regular chump change - but I don't need that much to have all the fun I want to usually have.

And to think - some folks think they can spend up to 5 or 6% of thier retirement funds and sustain the core of it with minimal investment risk.

OK... enuf of all that! :rolleyes1 ... right?

..."

OK... so we booked th Costa cruise yesterday. What a bargain... by some standards. And last tonight I must say it was a very very pleasant evening at the Bowl. I had my Dad and step Mother out with one of her brother in laws, my sister and an old friend out with his son. I never hooked up with my brother and spouse who were expected. Oh well - and the concert was pretty nice - not really spectacular or super memorable as a show - but the mere fact I had a bunch of family together and pleasant conversation with my friend was enough to make it memorable for those reasons.

I'm a little tired from the day - but I just dozed off for a bit and reawakened just now. So I guess that means it's time to pretend I'll sign off in the next 3 hours... right Tom?

In the mean while I've got stuff running in the background on the TV - a channel called HD videos... and I'm looking now at what todays' kids are apparently listening to. Its' a rapper with a mixture of what seems like a fairly mainstream medely. I don't know as yet who the artist is being featured - but it sounds sort of tolerable. Except the rapper looks like the worst sort I'd like to have a daughter bring home to meet me. Now where are my guns? I'll have to make certain I have my gun cleaning supplies ready, eh?

OK.. time to lurk a little more before I turn in for the nite...

My girls and I are leaving for the airport about 1 for a 5:40 flight . . . if all goes well we will be in Barcelona around 10 AM their time tomorrow. I will be seeing our friends Andrew and Laura on the Magic Saturday, and then Laura again, Chris, and Todd on the repo Aug. 18. And the rest of you I will see next year!

I finally made it to triple digits as of today.............I have just 999 days to go until I am eligable for my full pension, lifetime benefits, and retirement!!! :thumbsup2

At least one good thing happened today..........:goodvibes

Well, make that two good things: Hazel just called from the doctor's office, our family doc is increasing my med for the itching, and is giving me a note for being out of work the first three days of this week. I couldn't believe the doc actually thought I could go back to work yesterday.

Congrats Andy, I am jealous. We are not too far behind you. 1633 days left counting today.

I refuse to count until I get *much* closer.

Goodnight Gracie.

I don't blame you I wouldn't want to count if I had more than 5 years.

Have a great Thursday everyone, it's raining this morning in Chicago.

John
