On the days when it got too chilly to wear flip-flops, a coworker used to come into work wearing (horrors!) toe socks:

If it is too cold to wear flips DON'T WEAR THEM! Once it gets too cold I will wear them....as soon as I get home THEY ARE OFF!

Yes by car.... I am staying off-site (i know) this trip in a 2 bedroom condo (for the 3 of us). i kinda am outta points at the moment and the condo thing was dirt cheap. ($169 - and we get $100 back when we get there. No tour required. Works for me.)

Each resort hotel has a guard shack where they'll ask why you are at that resort (to check-in, to visit, to dine, etc...)

If your not staying on property you need to show a drivers licence and tell them that you're here to meet friends for lunch/dinner of if you have a DVC card say your pool hopping.

I plan to PM everyone this week as we leave Friday for WDW (Yeah!)

Now that's funny!

At the very basic, you have to prove (a) identity (gov't issued photo ID like a DL) and (b) US citizenship (b/c, naturalization papers etc) in order to get a passport.

This proof needs to be in the form of legal and/or certified documentaion. If you want the passport in a name OTHER than what's listed on your birth certificate then you have to provide proof of the name change or even a "chain" of proof in the cases of multiple marriages and divorces. You essentially need documents to show how you got to the point of having various different names on your ID, b/c, SS card etc. and that you are, indeed, one in the same person.

You have to show that the name you want on your passport (if different than your b/c) is still YOU via a combination of those documents. If you want the passport to have your b/c (maiden) name, then you have to show why it is that your DL name is different than your b/c name.

So, if you don't have one of the marriage certificates, get copies. Lost the birth certificate? Get a new one. Spelling error? Get them fixed. Yes those are simplistic suggestions but the point is to start doing that stuff now so that the passport application process will go more smoothly.

I think I'm getting a headache.
how on earth can I show a chain of proof of the name on all my other info besides my BC? I've had everything in Shelley and didn't even know it was Shelly on my BC until the cruise last year when I went to get a copy of my BC for that cruise and realized how it was spelled on there. I didn't save my DL all my life to prove I've always used Shelley -but my SS is from when I was a child and it's spelled Shelley. How I'd prove it's been my SS since I aws a child is beyond me.
I sure hope I don't have to go digging up first marriage license, divorce, new marriage license to same man, "chain" of proof of my name change, etc. this is such a PITA! major major PITA!

And I am so not going to Houston to deal with this either. Like I'm so sure... not! Might as well ask me to go to another state- as far as that is from me in the big ole state of Texas!

so really the passports aren't good for as long as they say- since it has to have 6mo left on it in order for you to use it? The last 6mo of the passports is rendered useless? How weird.

When we renew ours they'll give you upto 9 months extra if you renew early.

Tom, All this information is great!!! After not hearing for 14 weeks, I took matter in my own hands. I was told by the passport office that my passport was just sitting in the New Hampshire Office for over 12 weeks. The girl from the asgency gave me a hint and said if I was going within the week,keeep calling.(She knew I orginally said I was not needing them til next year) If I called, the agency would start working on mine. It took 5 phone calls and each time my passport was getting a little further in the system. Finally, I was told the government would express my passport over night by Fed EX. The next morning I got my passports.

Cheryl, why did your passport application go to New Hampshire? I would of thought it would go to the Chicago Office? When I got our passports in 2005 ours went to Chicago. Of course back then there was no rush. I was sweating out my dd's passport after the hassle I went through, but they came in 3 weeks!

Also I was on the Disneyland website and it had a link for Pixie Prints. You can upload your pictures and make invitations or frames with different Disney themes.

I have a costume that I used to think was pretty good. Until I saw the ones some people here have.....and until I saw a picture of myself in it.

Will have to work on the weight issue first...then the costume issue....
