Hi -
Just popping by!

Has anyone used a money belt when travelling? I got my silk undercover moneybelt today from ebags. Passport, train tix, airline tix & money all fit and it's still quite flat. Maybe I should wear it around here before I leave to test it!

BTW - Roger - that's a great pic of you & your girls.

Check back later.

Love eBags! :thumbsup2 Too bad we moved to CO and now have to pay sales tax on their stuff.

Not a belt per se but I've used this and like it a lot...
http://www.amphipod.com/155/155.html

It holds 2-3 passports, some credit/KTTW/id cards and a little cash. When in unfamiliar or pickpocket-prone areas, I keep the important stuff in this and my "diversion wallet" in my back pocket. The diversion is 2 or 3 debit/credit cards (with expired, old, deactivated numbers), a couple of gift cards that have no value and maybe $6 in singles folded to make it look like a bankroll.

Anyway, the Amphipod is nice to hold the valuables. Plus, the outer/top flap holds your sunglasses :cool2:

One tip I got from another travel forum was from a guy who routinely travels to Hong Kong and Marrakech where the urchins are verrrry skilled at pickpocketing. So, he uses a unique plan to thwart/catch them. He uses a decoy wallet like I mentioned but he stuffs it with 10-15 $2 bills. Why $2 notes? Because $2 notes are an oddity enough here in the US, imagine what they are like overseas! :teeth: So when a skilled pickpocket lifted his decoy from his buttoned back pocket, he told his hotel concierge who called the police. The he told the police that the wallet had some $30 in $2 US notes with sequential serial numbers...don't you know 10 minutes later a local police station got a phone call from a currency exchange booth because some fool was trying to pass the strangest US dollar notes they'd ever seen! Bad guy was caught, went to jail and our intrepid traveler got his $30 back.

And to see what a skilled pickpocket can do....

(Note, keep an eye on the guy in suspenders!)

My DD Driving Class at HS was the best one yet. Not only did they learn the fundamentals but they actually went out on the street. DS on the other hand went to a different HS. They had one of those little driving courses. Drove on tiny Toyotas. So when I took him out one day in my Cougar.(it had a really long front and very sensitive power brakes) The kid freaked  .Had to take him home.We then took him in the family van which he had a easier time with.

They don't teach drivers ed in HS anymore. You have to pay a driving school LOTS of money to teach your kids! UGH! And the driving time is minumim since they only have a few weeks (6?).

Here they stopped teaching it in HS's about 20 something years ago..... In the rural areas they may have still taught it in HS's for a while longer.

When they taught it in HS's it was a half year long course and you had it for an hour everyday.

In the many years that we've had DSL (7 or 8) we've only had a problem a handful of times..... They only started offering Cable modem for our address a few years ago and we didn't want to go through the hassle of changing.

We have had DSL for ages - I'm thinking probably 9-10 years. Back when we first got it, no one even knew what we were talking about when we told friends about it! Since we are both computer geeks, it was worthwhile even back then when I think it was about $80 per month! We have stayed with the same company the whole time (Earthlink) because we have had pretty decent service and they contact us and LOWER our cost each time they start offering it at a lower price. Another reason we haven't switched to cable modem (other than just that I don't want to give Comcast more money) is that I really don't want to change my email address. I've had the same address for around 12 years. It started with a small ISP named Sprynet. They were purchased by Mindspring. Mindspring was purchased by Compuserve who later spun it back off and sold it to Earthlink. Even with all of those changes, I have never had to change my address! A lot of family and friends have that address and I would hate to have to change it. Also, the neighbors who have a comcast cable modem seem to be having trouble all the time...

Did you say "GHIRADELLI"? I would go to DTD every night to get my "Ghiradelli".(I would say to myself, I am on vacation so there are no calories! YEH RIGHT!!! When I got home and on the scale it did not agree with my reasoning!!

Karen

Try having a Ghirardelli less than 30 minutes from home. On one of our first dates Mark took me there. Man that guy sure knows the way to my heart!

Andy or Tom maybe you can help me ...I am starting to do signs for the Med Repo and cause of my computer crashing months back I have lost some things I need and you may know where or have ... pirate:

I'm pretty sure I have a couple of good shots of the Magic & one or two of the Flying Dutchman from our last trip. I'll try to dig them out tonight and mail them off.

Hello All,
Happy Belated :bday: :cake: to those that I have missed.

Just thought I would mention this...............Brooke had her doctor's appt. the other day for school. She was given 4 shots !

First time meeting new Doctor and she said Brooke would need Hep. A shot due to upcoming cruise. She goes back in 6 months for the booster.

She also recommended getting " Florastor " It's over the counter and taken twice a day while on the trip prevents you from getting sick. Especially if eating any local foods.

Just thought I would pass this info, along. When DH & I went on our double dip cruise there was alot of talk weather or not to get the Hep. A shot. We did and I already had my booster done. DH didn't get the booster.:sad2:

Nice to see you Tina. Glad you could stop by.

Thanks for the reminder about the shots. I'm all up to date, but I'm going to have my mom call her Dr and check on hers. (Not sure if you heard but I'm now taking my mom instead of my son on the Med repo).

hey...where's my breakfast treat?...I miss those

Tina, Hepatitis A vaccine would be the only "shot" that we would probably need to TOAL, only if you are planning on eating the local cuisine. It is not a bad idea to get anyway. Two shots verses Hepatitis A, guess what I choose.

Our girls are required to have Hep A and B for school here in California, so many of your children already have been vaccinated. I need to check with my Infectious Disease doc friend to make sure that nothing else is required. Looking at the CDC travel section we are not at risk of anything else.

Yeah, I was going to ask if the Hep A was something the doc said to get specifically because of the cruise or if it was just nice to have. Some school are requiring it for attendence--unless it poses a health risk or there's an religious or personal objection to vaccination.

At a minumum, our district requires:

Preschool:
4 DTaP/TD, 3 Polio, 1 Measles, Mumps, Rubella, *1 Hib (if one dose is given at 15 months, requirement met; if given before 15 months, 2 doses are required) 3 Hepatitis B, 1 Varicella

Grade K:
5 DTaP/TD**, 4 Polio***, 2 Measles, Mumps, Rubella, 3 Hepatitis B, and 2 Varicella

Grade 6: (And similarly grades 7-12)
5 DTaP/DTaP**, 1 Tdap (adult Tetanus, Diptheria & Pertussis), 4 Polio***, 2 Measles, Mumps, Rubella, 3 Hepatitis B, and 1 Varicella

**5 Doses of DTaP/TD unless the 4th dose was given on or after the 4th birthday in which case only 4 doses are required.
***4 Doses of Polio unless the 3rd dose was given on or after the 4th birthday in which case only 3 doses are required.

The CDC's Yellow Book has been updated:
Health Information for International Travel, 2008
http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/contentYellowBook.aspx

No requirements for Yellow Fever or malaria vaccines but the cruise is over a year away and they could always have their version of the "TB Guy" running around. :sad2: But I do see that Hep A, Hep B, malaria, rabies, typhoid and tetnus-diptheria vaccinations may be recommended depending on your personal health situation.

I guess sometime next May we'll visit a travel medicine clinic for any needed boosters. I haven't had a vaccination in a billion years. I know my ICV card is around somewhere. Not that it's needed for this trip...

Which is why I still have AOL. My AOL address has been the same for 13 yrs -- oldest ds deleted my first one and I had to come up with something FAST. I will never change that addy! LOL!

That does seem a little strange to put in an end of the year letter to parents. Perhaps there were stressful things going on his personal life, or behind the scenes in the league itself and just came out the wrong way in his letter :confused3

Stressful is a strong word to use there....But if you remove that word, the note is nice.

My dh has been co-coaching Kylie's softball team, and the only thing that has been a little "annoying" is that parents aren't telling the coaches when the girls will be absent. Rob works out a line up and who will be playing what positions each week (so they all get equal time playing infield), and then we get to the game only to find 3 or 4 girls missing. Out goes the lineup! And they are scrambling to figure out "Okay, who hasn't gotten to pitch or play first base in a while..." It's just kind of a bummer that parents can't give the coaches a little advanced notice. Then the girls start complaining.......It's hard to please everyone!

But overall, dh has loved coaching this age group. He also coached Kylie's basketball team.....he is really great with the girls....VERY patient!

Thanks you guys. I didn't realize how agitated he would get at the girls during a game until another mom pointed it out. Her dd is no longer playing. I think he does have alot going on. It's nice that he volunteered, but if you are over extending yourself, that's not good. The girls are so cute, when they hit the ball they just stand there and watch it. I think they are surprised they hit it!

Todd I've got a great pic of the Flying Dutchman. I haven't forgotten your :fish: extender!

Whopper are one of my favorites. Not certain how I feel about them employing a microbiologist only when there are problems... Tell me, anyone know if they've got one on staff now??

Hershey bougt out Leaf(Whoppers) years ago. My son gave up eating candy after working there. He works for the major drug company now and is busy all the time working with contamination. What does that mean???:scared1: .

I had DSL a few years ago (when AOL provided it through SWB) but it was so unreliable and had poor customer service. I switched to cable and I am happy to pay the $40+ each month for the fast, reliable service.

Dail-up? I'd rather not even get online. I do not stay at hotels that do not provide high speed internet. :surfweb:

My DH keeps bugging me about switching to cable connection. I told him I will before the cruise .:thumbsup2 Otherwise I have no chance against all of you to book Palo's.:rotfl2: :

Well, my downfall isn't sweets - its a slower metabolism AND pasta & wine. As long as I exercise & avoid pasta I can do okay. Well, the wine is out now too. (for now) I left my roller-blades in So. CA - so its dog walking & staying on my work-out routine. And salads - lots of salads.
I didn't realize our metabolism slows as we get older - I sure do now!

Metabolism:confused3 I don't think I have one anymore.

Roger Howarth. He's a fantastic Soap Actor. Started on Loving, then went to Guiding Light, then His breakout role as Todd Manning on One Life to Life and for the past 4 years as Paul Ryan on As the World Turns. I know, more info than needed. :rolleyes1 [/COLOR]

Now I do not know him.:rolleyes1 I gave up watching soap operas thirty years ago. All my life my mother was a soap addict!! She would not even leave the house be she was addicted to soap operas. I was afraid to be like her.:scared1:

The kids won out over the clothes already.......

Angelina said she really didn't like working retail, said the job was just too boring for her, so she left the job at the Deb, she likes the faster pace action at B-a-B much better.........:) At least she did get a few items at discount the short time she was at the Deb..........;)

I had a feeling she would be picking the kids.:goodvibes I just felt I knew what she was all about from you talking about DD and what kind of person she turned out to be.:yay:

My downfall is some sweets, but really gets me in trouble is cheese. I just love it soooo much but it's not good for my cholestrol.:rolleyes1 The one thing about moving to Chicago is and it's sad for me to say this but it's the truth...................I have had more exercise in 2 weeks then I have had in 6 months.

Is that a good thing!!!:confused3

Oh great, pregnancy stories! What is this Friday night chat?

jk :lmao: :lmao:

Actually my wife had two terrible pregnancies (did I mention we have only 2 kids - get the connection?). Swelling, 9 months of morning sickness, a month plus of "off feet" with second child.

Funny thing was, she goes for "final" checkup right before the first was born. Dr. is very laid back so wife asks "how big do you think he is now." She was concerned since at x# of weeks he was estimated at 6+ lbs and if the books are right and the baby grows 1/2 lb. per week, her math has a whopper of kid. Dr. gets this "oh carp" look on his face and says he wants her to have an ultrasound "to make her feel reassured." We went to ultrasound, the tech does it and goes to the (fill in blank of job title of person who actually interprets the thing) and he sends her back to do it all over (can't be right). The tech is all embarrassed because she has to do it again. After its done, we sit in room for 25 minutes or so and she comes back in and says "Your Dr. would like to see you at 12:30," its 11 at this point.

We get to Dr. after stopping for lunch (he's 10 minutes from ultrasound place) and are immediately ushered to his office. Apparently ultrasound charts only go up to a little under 10 lbs. The measurements for Chris had him at a minimum of 9 lbs 10 oz. but when the extrapolated the actual measurments out, their range was 9.5 to 12 lbs. (Let's say Doc is a bit embarrassed at this point for not taking DW more seriously). After lengthy discussion of risks of large babie and natural delivery, she opted for c-section. Chris came in at 10 lbs 2 oz. (Mitch beat his brother at the birth weight game by 1 oz).

Hey, how about that a swabbie posting a pregnancy story....:confused3

OMG That is no record I would ever want to beat!!!!!;)

Happy Thursday!!!!

I like many of you have been trying to shape up before we ship out!

It is the fault of bread and french fries! Why are you sooo good!(ok my fault too!)

Been on a diet plan and recently started working with a personal trainer. I too have a nonexistent metabolism...can I buy one at the store please (with a side of fries?)?

I have been annoyed this week..this sunburn on my back is so sore/uncomfortable I can't lean/put pressure on my back and arm movements are limited. So no trainer this week :

I can offer some advice: WATER!!!!
You should have 8/8. But try to up it....I switched from drinking soda(tonic, pop) and water to JUST water. I couldn't believe how much I lost with just that! I drink while I am driving (water that is) or bored etc. I use that as a substitute.

Chrissie

I walk everyday and eat under 1000 calories a day. I lost a whooping 3 pounds in a month!!! I guess it is better than gaining.

Pamela (pdarrah)

Pam does Earthlink need a special phone company to work off from??? :confused3 I was told I have to chage to ATT phone for a DSL line. I like Comcast(my phone & cable company now),..... but Comcast does get a lot of money from us every month.:lmao:

We lived in NY over 35 years before moving to florida(been here 12) .. On Aug9 we are going back to NY and staying in midtown to do the tourist thing.. My son graduated from college this past May.. and that is what he wanted.. Looking so forward to it .. we have tickets to the Yankee game.. :goodvibes ... and of couse two broadway shows..Having dinner with friends .. Our DD and DDH from DC is meeting us for a couple of days.. All I am looking forward to is PIZZA..........KNISH..........PASTRAMI... BAGELS... BIALY"S and Chinese food.... :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

There is nothing better then a pastrami sandwich in NYC along with Pizza, Knish, Bialy's and Chinese food.

Can I meet up with you?

I see you were practicing for the cruise? Only were bathing suits?:rotfl:

Chrissie

I thought the official cruise wear was big baggy things and commando? :lmao: :lmao:

Anyone know of some good cruise packing lists we can link from the website? post 'em please.

Aww.... Abby weighed more than that at 8 weeks old. I actually hurt my back after two weeks carrying her up and down stairs for the first two weeks to let her out.

(We used to have to go down three levels to get outside back then.)

Now that we built a deck off the kitchen (2nd floor) i will only have to worry about one flight to door. Another flight to ground level.

Yeah,it's getting a bit more difficult to pick him up and toss him in his crate when it's bedtime or we go out!

I've started making my wench costume. Went to JoAnn Fabrics at got all the material I needed (Chemise,Vest,Overskirt) for less than $15.00 :cool1:

Wow! Your children seem to have loads of vaccines. Haven't given next year much thought yet bur I guess I'll have to if we need Hep vaccinations - it will cost me big time in cola bottles & gifts if that is the case!!!!

DD (8) is looking forward to meeting people of her own age. Last year she spent less time at the club/lab as she got bored being one of the elder children in the group, so next year she should be more challenged & hopefully we might get a bit of "us" time.

I don't know whether you get us much phishing as we do in the UK, but the fraud thing that CaptainCrash got hit with made me think I'd share this with you - I had a phishing email purporting to be from Amazon asking me to change my password. Whilst they couldn't necessarily get my money, they could run up a hefty bill buying who knows what!

Enjoy the remains of Thursday
