8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC Part 13

A few years ago, WaWa opened a new store with gas station inside Philadelphia proper. I think it was the very first WaWa with gas to open inside the city as all the others were in the 'burbs.

Well the noteworthy thing about WaWa gas stations is that you can pump your gas first and then pay! The first time I had ever encountered such a thing was when driving myself to my new job/home in Texas. Pulled off to get gas and at the same time this car pulls next to me. You could have knocked me over with a feather when the guy just pulled out the pump handle and got gas! Then went inside and paid with a personal check!?!?!

Well of course, being Philly, people took advantage of this nifty feature and drove off without paying. So when WaWa called the police and said someone stole a tank of gas, the translation from the dispatcher was "Theft at WaWa" and the officers in the field interpreted that to be "Robbery in progress at WaWa" That happened about 3 or 4 times and then the city FORCED WaWa to stop allowing people to pump first!

I didn't realize that not everyone did it this way. Everywhere I have lived you pump first.

Hello! We are booked on this cruise as well. There are 4 of us...myself, husband, DD age 12 (now) and DS age 9 (now). I sent an email to the address on the first page, but haven't heard anything back. We took our first Disney Cruise on March 24, 2007 on the Magic and are hooked. We had an amazing time. We are really looking forward to the trip. We would also like to get the kids connected with some friends ahead of time.

Hello Everyone!

I've been off for a few days getting our DD ready for her senior trip to WDW. And if it's okay with my Orlando-area friends, keeping you (Judy, Arlene, Liz) in the back of my mind in case of emergency. (thanks ) Until she landed in Orlando at 11 this morning my heart was in my mouth. You all remember me........the most fearful flier on two feet! Well I tried not to pass that particular fear to my kids, but I'm afraid kids learn much more by what we practice more so than what we preach! Well maybe Taryn was a little fearful, but she didn't let that stop her and for that I'm glad!

We I'm going to try and catch up over what I missed that last few days, but a quick glance shows me you swabbies where all about your swords bad swabbies!

MR, I hope Tayrn has a wonderful senior trip at the World. She probably knows her way around more than any of the chaperones. I am glad the flight didn't scare her from taking the trip. It is my favorite way to travel.

Warning bad news post so please read at your own risk!


I hesitate to post this here, mainly because I hate bringing this thread down & you are all having such fun, but since I did let you all know that I had to fly down to Florida as soon as we got back from HHI, because my mother had yet another blockage in her heart & I think it's only fair I keep you updated. We since found out it she was inoperable due to her age (77), emphazema, etc. & unfortunately she passed away yesterday. I am truly okay & at peace, especially since I got to say my goodbyes a few weeks ago. The last time I spoke with her was on was fittingly on Mother's Day. She is in a way better place than she had been in a very long time & truly she kept saying she was tired & she just wanted to go. She was back & forth from a rehab hospital to a regular hospital. She was on her death bed one minute & fine the next. She went back in the hospital Sunday due to congestive heart failure. They had her sitting in the chair yesterday & she asked to lay down because she was not feeling well & she died shortly after. The nurses say she passed peacefully. She is to be cremated & her remains sent up here for burial with my father. We are hoping for a graveside service next weekend so I probably won't be on much next week. But really I am fine & in fact had posted as usual yesterday, shortly after finding out. I was enjoying all the POC intrigue & didn't want to interrupt.

Julie I am so sorry your mother died so young. That is very sad. But you're right...there is a little child in all of us & that is exactly how I felt when I got the news yesterday. I curled up in a little ball & cried for my Mommy. My mother has had problems with learning, mental illness, substance abuse, etc. & she was not an easy mother to have, but yet she was still my Mom & there was always hope that some day she would see the light & be the mother I always wanted her to be. Even though that hope was unrealistic, it was competely gone yesterday & that is what hurt the most. Sorry I don't mean to be so maudlin, but you hit the nail on the head with your words of wisdom. Thank you so much!

SO if anyone has any thoughts or opinions on academic red shirting - or on the less intense pace of socializing ... please share them. I'm all ears...

Tom DD seems to be the exact same as your youngest. She has a 9/4 bday and the cutoff is 10/15 so she entered Kindergarten at 4 yo. We were completely prepared to have her repeat K if she didn't meet the goals for that year. She exceeded them and has really grown in first grade this year surpassing our expectations. She has also had a problem being attached to us and not really active socially. For example I got a call from her 3 yo ps teacher one night because they had heard her talk in class. They had to look and see what kid had come into the room because she had only whispered please & thankyou when forced before. The occasion? Our first Disney cruise. She was all excited telling the kids about everything she had seen. She continues to have clingy days...like this morning when DS stayed home to go to the doctor to check out possible sun poisoning. She was crying half way there and the teacher had to give her a hug when he picked her up out of the van to distract her (they are use to her). The most important thing IMO is their emotional development. I never forced the kids to give others hugs if it made them uncomfortable...that really counters the "don't talk to strangers" thing you try to pound into their heads from a very young age...not literally.

I have always tried to encourage DD to participate in extra activities but she has never wanted to. Last fall she said that she wanted to play soccer with her brother at the Y on the night before the first game. Thankfully she was able to join his team. She had a BLAST and gained so much confidence, learned to work together with others, and experienced others cheering her on. She didnt' want to take ballet because she didn't want others looking at her. This summer there are a few opps for her. They keep bringing home info from school. I started reading one about an art camp to them and talking about what they could do and she said I WANT TO DO THAT! I called the next morning & luckily got the last spot for her age that had just been cancelled. She is thinking about a dance camp and wants to do soccer again in the fall. Give your DD time. She will shine when she is ready to step out there.

All I can say is that every child is different and it really isn't fair for you to compare her to her older sister. DS has a 11/14 bday so he is one of the oldest in his class and is in the AIG program. It isn't fair for me to hold DD to attain the same achievements that DS has. When I actually sat down and figured things by month she has achieved things before he did age-wise....riding bike without training wheels, getting 6 year molars in, losing first tooth, reaching each reading level, etc. It just seems that DS read at an 18-19 reading level earlier because he was in Kindergarten...but he was 6 1/2 at the time. DD is now at that same level in first grade...but he is NOW 6 1/2 so they are actually at the same rate of development for reading. Hope that makes sense.

Wow Andy!! I admire your Chutzpah my friend! I also admire that you stuck to your word. Did I tell you last year this is almost the exact same way the Taryn's belly button wound up pierced! I do love the tattoo though (as opposed to the piercing which I definitely don't like)! What does Little Hay Hay think of it?

Hay Hay is OK with it, in fact she sat in the room with Lina and I as it was being done. Funny thing is, Hay Hay was doing her word search puzzles most of the time...............

Does anyone have thoughts on a Canon camcorder. ithink the # are DC240, DC220,DC230 or DC50. I am looking for user friendly, lightweight and be able to take pictures along with video. Any suggestions?????
