The PG-13 rating was not created until middle of 1984. Sixteen Candles was rated before PG-13 existed. It was originally rated R and then some scenes were cut to make it "PG". Yes, today it would likely be PG-13.

I was thinking the same thing. Somehow she KNEW he sunbathed nude EVERY DAY.

Okay what is it with the movies that are On Demand. My DD is watching Sixteen Candles. It is rated PG on the listing but it is absolutely not PG. I think the older movies all get PG ratings. Good thing she is past the PG-13 stage but geez.
Hey, I've climbed into 6th place. Andrew better watch his back and start posting fluff or I will be in the top 5. Nobody wants that, do they?

That's what I read somewhere.....................![]()
First of all, you do know that the TV ratings are not a 1:1 match with the MPAA ratings? The MPAA movie ratings are voluntary, plus some PG-13 movies might translate into TV-PG or TV-14 depending on the content and/or the reviewer at the time. TV-PG also includes Deal or No Deal and American Idol
If she's 15 she's probably seen a lot of other stuff but that's just me being cynical. But as a matter of pragmatism, if the blocking you use is on the TV (V-chip) then your local 10 year old can show you how to defeat that! Blocking via cable provider is a little more robust/secure but that has been hacked as well.
Wow! I just replied with the same thing.....

Leave it to DH to yap about this and post before I got a chance!
I don’t want to start a battle here but I had to read this post twice and had to ask! What exactly is wrong with sixteen candles? I grew up in the 80’s with the brat pack and watching sixteen candles, Pretty in Pink, Can’t buy me love, Some kind of wonderful, and The breakfast club (that might be pushing it). I don’t see any of these movies as inappropriate for younger kids. If it’s the language people are worried about then obviously people walk thru malls or even down the street with their ears closed.
As for what some of these movies might be rated if they were made today, well we don’t have to worry about that since no one makes a movie like that anymore if they did they would flop for being “boring”. Even some of the animated movies of today have sexual undertones in them that might fly right over the kids heads but adults get it! I look at the fact that this board and the people on it share a love for POTC and it is only PG-13.… Now I loved the movies but look at the violence and such in them…. Compared to a few kisses and silly phrase’s.
All this being said I am one of “those” parents who flips out when I hear of another township or school that is taking field trips to museums out of the school because the kids might see a nude painting. So in a movie where they might see kissing or a little skin doesn’t seem to me as bad as a movie that shows him fighting and a lot of death. Not that anyone on this board feels this way, but it seems to me that anymore people are more willing to accept a little violence in a movie then a little sex. Perhaps if we turned the tables on that DH and I would not have see the profiles of many many 12 and 13 year olds who were looking to make an adoption plan for an unplanned baby.
Anyway as I said I don’t want to cause a battle! I just wanted to know what in the movie inappropriate, its interesting to see how others think. Now if I can get into chat tonight will be the test!
Hello, havent had time to 'ketchup' as yet, quick glance saw so note for me will come to that soon, but I want to share something with everyone on this thread.
You will know Julie was/is a major contributor to this thread, but after one post, had to leave us quickly and had to cancel her cruise.
She is so funny and caring, I have had a lot of 'joking' posts to/from each other nice banter with her.
I have seen posts asking where she is, what happended etc, I will post a private PM below, and I have said EVERYONE here is sending their very best wishes to her at this time.
Julie although I have never met her, (but wish to do so, ) is a very warm person and the situation must be a drain on her, and I know how that feels.
IC was the first beer I ever drank and therefore there is a special soft spot in my stomach for it. And you may want to be careful. You don't want to see a gang of Pittsburgh steelworkers at your doorstep.
