Well...the Good news is that we may not have to pay the Alternative Minimum Tax for this tax year. However, the bad news is that my DW may be laid off tomorrow.:sad1:

She's a professor and received email 1 (paraphrasing): "Dear employees, as announced at March XX meeting, the company has been planning staff reductions. Those impacted will be contacted by their Deans by 11am tomorrow. Sincerely, College President."

E-mail 2 arrives (again paraphrasing) "Hello Shella! (sic), I need you to come in and meet with me, the HR Director and some other person. Please let me know if 11am or 2:30pm is alright with you. Sincerely, Your Dean."

She's been fulltime for 9 years and had at least 2+ years adjunct before that. We were hoping she'd be spared because she picks up so many weekend and evening courses, plus the 9 years of time in seemed like some seniority, plus there are only two females that teach CIS. I've reread it multiple times and tried to look at some way that there may be an actual outcome where she's not being let go, but why would the HR Director be included? plus the timing after the first e-mail just leaves us w/little hope.

The bright side, she is finishing her PhD coursework in the next 3 weeks and this may allow her more time to focus on her dissertation. Even still, the completion of her coursework this month gives her an EdS degree, which is a graduate degree (basically says I did my PhD work but haven't completed a dissertation yet).

Hope everything works out!

it is take your child to work day??? Hope DD doesn't find out - I think this is the first year she could have done it - 9? DH is out of town either way.....

Last year, they moved TYKTWD to the summer at my workplace to avoid school issues, but they sent out a note prior to the real day telling us. This year, nothing. I expect with our current financial crisis, they will probably not do anything at all this year around here.

My office, they called 50 people in 2 weeks before Christmas, told them to clean out desks and this guard will escort you off the premises (this was a layoff, not for cause firing). No notice.

Sounds like we all work for the same type of employers. My company is usually good about providing notice once they actually decide to lay you off but they keep most people in limbo for so long not knowing when the pink slip will come.

Here's hoping they tell her "you are one of the ones we decided not to let go"

Which is usually followed by, "We also need you to pick up all of Joe and Mary's work, since we are letting them go".

I have come to the conclusion sometimes it is better to be voted off the island early if it is inevitable.

PS Love the pictures of George Bush dancing and playing the bongo's today, he is sooo cool!

Its on our TV all the time. Is he going to be on ''Dancing with the stars''?

Yes, now that Lady Macca is gone, they do need some fresh blood.

That's horrible. And by email ??

Morning:goodvibes
Taking a break from purging all unnecesarry papers in my files. Bad idea.

My DD was actually fired on the phone :rotfl2:

She knew she was on thin ice due to her FMLA and the kids getting sick all the time. She worked the 7pm to 6am shift and we watched the kids those 3 nights.
She came into work and her manager asked her why she was there as they fired her on the phone. And there it was on her voice mail...:rotfl2:
To this day I still think what they did was soo against company policy and they even forgot to have her sign the necesarry papers. I keep telling her she still works there.:lmao: :lmao:

Thanks Cheryl, I'll see if I can find that, I've heard about it before, but never tried it.

I'm feeling a bit better this morning, but then again I've been off my feet most of last night, I'll see how the morning goes once I get to work and start walking. It's a very chilly and damp start here this morning, which isn't going to help much either.

I rmember the end of April and early May as being very damp when we were on LI. Had to keep the heat running a bit then as well. Take care!!!!

Andy, hope you feel better, we seem to be linked, just been to the Doctors as I have been getting headaches etc, told high blood pressure, take it easy, go for walks, ban on all fatty food etc.

Most important is to cut down on the salt in your diet. When I cut out the layer of salt I was putting on my food, the BP went down and I lost 30 lbs. Too bad the lbs came back but the pressure is pretty stable.

Yes we saw that here on our news, funny how the show is exactly the same as the BBC's Strictly come dancing, USA TV ABC have kept the music, the set, a couple of our judges, just the presenters are different to the orginal in the UK.

Its also interesting she choose to do the USA version rather than our one.

Come on Bush do your bit. He could do the dance from THE OFFICE.

I have generally been good with salt, very little, is just on Crisps (your chips) and french fries when served, in fact on the Disney magic at plutos i always asked for no salt on my fries and they do it, and my kids used to have no salt at McDonalds until they were 5.

I think its the various things going on at work and at home that have bumped the BP up.

Haven't ketched up yet...not much time today. I have a phone interview in about an hour. Requesting prayers, pixie dust, and crossing anything you are able to cross!

I'll ketchup with you tonight!

So true,

The funny thing is Our company is rated one of the TOP in the US for working moms. ALL the working moms in my office laugh at that one.
All the magazine articles about it are funny, they talk about flex-time, job sharing, part time, etc etc. However these options are only available to management employees and you would need to cut off your right arm to get it. Not to mention that pushing for it makes you a target when the next round of layoffs come.

We do have great maternity leave options. We get our 6 weeks paid, then have up to a year to return. We can also work Part time in that year if we choose. Thats all really thanks to FMLA though. Its not our of the kindness of their hearts.

Ours too! Top 100 companies for working families. I've been here 8 1/2 years and we never stop laughing about all the crap we should have. The one we really liked was the mention of the chair massages. Yup they came once or twice a year, set up shop in the lounge and you paid for it. Not a freebie and they were students from one of the schools nearby. Lots of our workers were worse off after the massage:lmao: We also offer flex but only to one division and childcare is only there when we have a hurricane. I was wondering why a bunch of kids were there yesterday and it probably waas TYCTW but we didn't know about it. But the benefits are excellent and that is the main reason most of us have stayed so long. But we are all walking on thin ice at any time if we offend or have a bad call with a customer.

Good morning everyone.

It's very overcast and gloomy this morning, but supposed to get up to 75.

I've read back a few pages already and am very sorry for those going through layoffs. I am still trying to get over the layoffs at work from 5 weeks ago, and I'm still have a job. Of course, our VP just resigned, so there's no telling what may happen next. This place is falling apart. Funny, I don't seem to care that much...

Now to finish the ketchup...

Hope you're doing better today Andy!

Actually, I'm sitting here in my chair with tears streaming down my face as Hazel is fixing me something for lunch. The pain is just as bad as yesterday, if not more. I don't know how much more of this I can take. I'm seriously thinking of looking into signing up for Disability Pension, if I can't get a total knee replacement done. Of course, that knocks out all plans for a TOAL for us, but I need to do something, I can't live like this anymore. Sorry to be a downer folks, but I could use everyone's positive thoughts right now.
