I must apologize for starting it, I'm glad that his presence made you feel some comfort in this troubling time.

Thank you, Tom. The focus should be on the victims right now...no one else. Emotions are raw for some of us and that just isn't the best time to get into any kind of debate or discussion. I would hate for this to be the cause of any ill feelings between any of us. :goodvibes

Where are the parents or family of children that are so mentally disturbed. I blame some of the parents for not being aware of what their children are doing???? Seems like these children's problems did not happen over night.

I don't see where his parents can be completely faulted in this case. He was away at college. When I was at JMU I didn't have constant contact with my parents. I was paying my way thru school so I didn't have a lot of time to socialize between classes & working 40 hours per week. After they turn 18 the doctors can't contact the parents about anything. He was classified as an adult. The system was too messed up to stop him. His English professor tried everything they could to get him help. She couldn't force him to get counseling...noone could. When the judge let him go that was the last chance. They did what they should have. The gun sellers did what they were suppose to. That is part of why it is so hard ... it wasn't a case of noone ever seeing any of the signs of a problem.

One more ....

I agree.

Really, it makes me sad to think that some unfortunate kid with emotional issues has seen the videos and now has a new "hero". To know that the murderer held the Columbine killers up as martyrs just disturbs me.

In the end, the killer is the one who has ended up with a moment of fame, and those massacred are among the many lost, with very little attention going to those kids for who they were and who they wanted to be as individuals. When I put the TV on, I see the face of the killer on all of the networks. Not one of those killed has been given equal airtime. That is wrong on so many levels.

I could not agree More!!!!!

Just an update on DD situation with her hip.

She had a pain med injection into her hip joint. The results of the injection were that she had no pain at all after the injection. So they know for sure that the problem is her hip joint and not the surrounding muscles (they were ruling out a tear) So it is what they thought, a hip impingement, and will require surgery. (for those who don't know, this is the last in about 4 months of testing, so they are not baseing the results just on this one test) So she has to see him in 2 weeks (or of course, when ever they can get her in) and the he will map out the plan as far as how he wants to do the surgery. It may be orthoscopic or he might have to open her up. He will probably do the orthoscopic first and if he can't do what he wants (which is to reshape the bones) then he will have to open her up. Either way she will be on crutches for at least 4-8 weeks. He said he is booked with surgeries until September but he is planning on taking some time off from his office practice in July and/or August to spend a entire week doing only surgeries so he might be able to get her in then. We are praying for July that way she would have more recovery time before heading back to school in the fall.

It will be one year this month since she first had her knee injury and has been able to do anything physical at all.

I really pray the surgery will be sooner than later. Just tell her she will be in great shape for the TOAL. I really hope to meet your lovely brave daughter.

holy salamanders, :mickeyjum ! mr. V. jumped ahead again!

:goodvibes ..to those taking an active role in their schools! * i remember
when they decided that the old dick& jane readers were no longer
relevant....i :sad1: ! "family values" never go out of stlye!....even til
the end of time, children will need their parents' & tlc to grow
and learn coping skills ..to deal with the world they must live in.
* i got copies of all the dick & jane readers for my children benefits!
{ i know i am not the prefect parent....but we tried to provide our
children with positive feelings...all i do know..our sons do not smoke,
nor are they interested in etoh or drugs...i think that's a great begining.

.......... iam worry that "we" are not recognizing exactly how many
problems this situation came from...and therefore, the corrective
measures needed, to reduced future incidents will go undone!

:thumbsup2 micms03...2 things jumped out at me..first, she viewed
you as a very caring and able to handle crisis. ,that was
a very diffcult situation..but your support of her had a positive effect.

* our derby motto...it's takes a community to raise a child...& one
of the major areas ~where interventions are needed..are school /
sporting activities...over & over, adults fighting and damaging

you might be surprised how many around you, causing grief, often
projects their problems so they can blame you ..instead of accepting &
addressing their mistakes in the choices they are making..."you
made me!'..is not reality. no person controls another..rather having
an influence..and the best way to produced the desired out come is
thru a positive selection ..by the person preceptions.

iam sorry, if this not appropriate... it is the way iam feeling toward
all the suffering from this very sad situation. to me, it is very
positive & encouraging, by the ways his group is willing to support and
helped each other....sometimes, we @ work , are worn out from
all the emotional stressors. it recharges my "batteries" reading all
the happiness being share. some of you, i hope to meet..and i
hope yo have the same feelings. :flower3:

Thanks for the compliment Lil Grumpy. I am like the mother (or now grandmother )to the teens on my block. I feel people need to have open communication and listen to children. If more parents took time to know their own children, there would be less problems.:thumbsup2

I Love The Picture and Congrats!!!:
cool1::thumbsup2

I kid you not - my kids schools has lockdown procedures for when there is a moose or bear on the playground.

It happens a few times a year.

I got trapped in a building at U of Alaska for about 45 minutes when a moose was eating the shrubs just outside the door.

that is so funny - and I love the pic of the moose!!!

we have had coyote sightings on school grounds - they don't go into full lockdown, but they aren't allowed to go outside that that day.:)

sadly, they have had lock downs due to sex offenders and the like....I think 3 in the last 3 years.....

I think they say the two topics to avoid in friendly conversation are religion & politics. I would hate to see this thread closed down because of a political debate. Please leave that to the community board. Thank you. :)

Yes, ma'am . . .

I agree, Lisa . . and we're also using hindsight. Often the pieces don't come together for just one person . .. they don't see the whole puzzle until a tragedy does happen. Sometimes I think that watching all those 60 minute crime fighting shows (like 24 & CSI - my favorites) lull us into the belief that this occurs in normal life. It just doesn't happen that easily.

My hope is that this event does help the systems that could identify these issues earlier to be able to better communicate. Maybe if the judge had more information, he would not have released Cho. Only time will tell . . .

WOW!!! Some 14 pages have been added since I was on last yesterday afternoon, to late to play ketchup tonight, that will have to wait until later.

The kids did an AWESOME job with Brigadoon, we were so very proud of everyone, so much so, that the kids received a standing ovation at the end of the performance.

I've got to go and get some sleep, Angelina is already in bed and sound asleep, especially since she has to work from 11-4 on Saturday, then has to be back at the high school by 5pm for Saturday night's performance, followed by the cast party, then has to be back at work on Sunday from 11-4.

I had a nice time at dinner with my sister and niece, they got stuck in traffic on the Atlantic City Expressway and were about an hour late getting to the diner.

I only got a couple of pics tonight, but too tired to do anything with them now.

See you in a few hours..............

Checking out of chat at 1:25 - early night for me but DS has soccer practice tomorrow. Have a great night and day everyone!

The first thing I thought after the initial shock of seeing his pictures was that thank goodness it got delayed in the mail with the wrong information. It would have been even worse if it had been received Tuesday morning. Much more wasn't shown due to editing than what was released. The thing is...NBC isn't the only news station that has shown the video and pictures. The other stations could have petitioned for access to the information under the freedom of information act. I also have to question if some other stations would have edited the material as much as NBC did.

Both of the kids know what happened. They have watched the news with us. We have talked about what happened at Daddy's college and cried together. They have code 300 drills every month at school and know that it is for when a bad person comes into the school to try to hurt people. Now they have connected what happened at VT to the reason they have the drills.

I don't think my dd knows about it, but at the end of the Friday assembly, the principle lectured the kids on it. When I found that out It made me mad. DD's teacher email us earlier in the week and said she would answer questions and concerns from the kids but wouldn't bring it up unless the kids did. She also said she could email a resource if we would like it. I thought she handled it well.

holy salamanders, :mickeyjum ! mr. V. jumped ahead again!

......." :bday:"...............& lots of :cake: , may you have enough
wind to blow every single candle out and all your wishes come true!

I'd like to send out a great big "THANKS" to everyone for their birthday wishes, yesterday and last night. I'm still trying to ketchup and still have a couple hundred posts to read.

I even got a birthday greeting call, yesterday afternoon, from our friends, who are vacationing in Hawaii. :goodvibes

OK, back to ketching up..................;)

Hi Lil' Grumpy! I think what you have said is very appropriate. I enjoy reading your posts and your POV. Thanks for sharing:goodvibes

And I for one, am looking forward to meeting you, on TOAL!!!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I am feeling that way today. I had a doctor's appt. today and my doctor gave me heck over my weight (up 5 pounds since last visit). It was winter and my weight always goes up in winter. (And I cruised in December). Then she got onto me over my cholesterol, which is higher than she likes. So I am being guilted back into my diet and exercise. I am camping this weekend with the Boy Scouts, so hopefully I can do some hiking. (So I am taking the advice of many of you who have told me to "Take a Hike")

Take a hike today for me too J. R., I could hardly roll out of bed this morning, I see a Power Nap, in my future for this afternoon!!! :rotfl2:
