Just poppin in to say hi....hi!

After raising two girls, one now 25, and the other almost 17.....I noticed a pattern. For one thing, it only gets worse the older the girls get. High school can be a killer. Jordan called me the other day to come get her because some "mean girls" had been nasty to her. I didn't go get her, because she needed to let them think that they didn't get to her, so I told her to wipe her tears, hold her head high...and ignore them.

Anyway....this may not always be true, but one thing I noticed is that the girls who can be really nasty almost always seem to have older sisters. These girls end up wearing makeup earlier, listening to inappropriate music earlier, and just seem to be downright nastier. I think they maybe have been picked on by the older sister. My two were too far apart in age for that to happen here, and I wouldn't have stood for it anyway. And there's not really a solution for it that will help our daughters....just that it seems to be an interesting pattern.

I am going to take note of your theory, Stacey. I have been dealing with this for some time. I can't control other kids - I can only teach my DD to not take any crap from these kids - but I know it is not easy for her.

Good Morning America (or one of those things in the morning) did a feature on Atkins and other popular diets a few years ago. One of the nutritionists pointed out that all Atkins really does is teach portion control. They showed an oversized burger with fries, etc. etc. from some chain and pointed out that if you were on Atkins, you subbed something for the fries which was a smaller portion then took the oversized roll and threw it away cutting the burger portion in 1/2.

Just an interesting take....

I am not (or never have been) a big fan of Atknis. However, my DH's blood/sugar counts have gone down to near normal after being on it for only a few months and have remained low for over 6 months. Saying that, my DH STILL does not pratice any kind of portion control and I fear that. His weight issues have worried me for quite a few years. He was a chain-smoker (3-4 pack/day) and gave that up a few years ago, but unfortunately that added to the weight issue - Ugh!!!

The meeting went OK...it was with the VP. I am hopeful that we have come up with some things that will challenge DS but wont know until after Spring break. He met with the counselor that morning after our meeting so hopefully he will open up more.
