Hmmm guess it's getting too late for east coast...not late enough for west coasters and the brits are asleep....

I have to go to bed myself..... 5:30 comes earlier and earlier.... I need a Verandah Man alarm clock....(but don't wake me till after 5)

I never get 8 hrs sleep....

Believe you me, you can have my alarm clock. I too hardly ever get 8 hours of sleep a night, it's usually more like 6 hours. I did wake up around 4 this morning, but did talk myself into going back to sleep, then woke back up at 4:55................

GM pirate:

 Presently 78 going up to 82 here in Sunny Central Florida.. no rain at all this week.

 :grouphug: pixiedust: and prayers to everyone who is going to need it today.

:welcome: aboard to all the newbies.

Have a great Monday.

 sorry to hear about your dd's horse....

My dd hasn't had that happen yet but there have been some unfortunate others at the farm in the last couple years....

Believe it or not, dd got into this on her own. I only trail rode a couple times as a child and as a ST. She got real interested after having a friend in 2nd grade who owned a horse. One day we went over to where they boarded to see the horse and the girls fed and groomed him. I pretty much went into allergic fits and my eyes swelled shut after this incident.

I've let DD go to many GS riding camps and some one week camps during the summer. One day a worker at our Petsmart recommend the farm dd rides at now. For the past two yrs DD has been old enough to work for her riding lessons. She works one afternoon and two saturdays a month in exchange for weekly group lessons. (so saves me $210 every 6 weeks.) It still costs us gas money to drive down to the farm (about 18+ miles).

So my DD rides and as fate would have it, I am allergic to the horses and all the dirt that gets kicked up in the indoor ring. I can only watch them in the spring/summer when lessons can be held outdoors.

My girls love horses -

- and I had been uggling the idea of what to enroll them in next. I was juggling piano, french or a science class as the next thing to try out - and as a consideration riding lessons. And since science is a 2 segment series versus the other three being more or less open ended comittments in perpetuity ... I have settled on doing the science survey class this week for 2 sequences. THEN, I'll decide on what to engage in next. Oh... come summer the older one starts swim team again and the little one will learn to swim. AND starting this week we start gymnastics for both, karate in April, and a combination soccor / T-ball for the little one. What a load....

OK... time to take a long nap till the sun rises now...

Adios folks!:surfweb:

Crash....oh, dear sweet Captain Crash....

I suddenly realize....

you are one of THOSE parents. :scared1:

Just out of curiosity, if I said, "When do your kids have time to play?" would you answer, "I have that scheduled in at ______"?

Oh...good choice about the piano lessons. Trust me on this.

Morning Everyone :goodvibes

As Liz said, it's a great day here in Central Florida. At least I sit by the window at work and can enjoy it.

Crash! my son never participated in any sports etc as a child. Wait, we MADE him take swimming lessons at the Y 2x . The first set of lessons, he came out with a dry head each day.( Had to reenroll him and make sure he was soaked at the end of the lesson.).Extremely shy and introverted. Mumbled til he was 5. Didn't want anyone to hear his voice:confused3
Well he confesed to me a few years ago he was very sorry he didn't do any of the things we tried to force on him (picture child clutching the door jamb and screaming ,quite embarrasing)
So, if you are able to get your DDs out and about, go for it. DD was involved in many sports and I found her schoolwork was very organized as a result.
She had her skating lessons before school and after she did her hw was able to hang out with her friends.Very disciplined. Besides, keeping them busy, keeps them out of trouble!!!

Off to work:surfweb: Have some training today for 3 hours so that gets me off the phones for a while, and tomorrow a focus group with my favorite partners. Yeah, another hour off the phone. Looks like a good start.

Today is the day they release the results of Anna Nicoles autopsy. This should be interesting. At least I can plug into usa today at work.

That was me Arlene.....we have been calling our kids Stinky Teens since DD hit 13 four years ago. At first it was because of their stinky-like teen attitude, and then our son turned 13, and well, stinky took on a whole other meaning :rotfl: :rotfl:

Now he smells too much of Axe cologne YUCK!!!

Not "Axe," but along the same lines, did anyone catch this news a few months back?

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/09/21/onion.tag/

TOMS RIVER, New Jersey -- A weekend spillage of Tag Body Spray being described as the worst personal fragrance-related natural disaster in the history of the Eastern Seaboard continued to spread along New Jersey's Atlantic shore late Tuesday morning as disaster-management crews worked to contain the slick before it reached international waters.

The slick emits a nauseating aroma affecting the entire Jersey Shore.

Coast Guard officials said that the massive Tag slick -- an estimated 20 million gallons, or the equivalent of 45 million Body Shots -- has further contaminated the New Jersey coastline with a pungent combination of the Midnight and After Hours scents.

"We were not prepared for this," said Toms River, NJ firefighter Tony Carliano, choking back tears. "I've been dealing with noxious chemical fumes for 35 years, but I've never smelled anything on this scale before."

An Environmental Protection Agency spokesman said that Tag levels were already becoming dangerously high in recent years due to the thousands of migratory bros and dudes who flock to the area's beaches during the summer months. Worsening the crisis was the additional arrival of a yet-undetermined number of vacationing convention-goers, Maxim subscribers, and middle-aged divorcees trying to pass for twentysomething party girls. Thirteen-year-old boys attempting to imitate their older brothers have also not been ruled out as a source.

It is not yet known what caused the rupture in the hull of The Manly Torso, a fragrance supertanker which had been scheduled to make a delivery to the regional Tag receiving facility in Ocean City this week, which sank, apparently killing everyone on board, late Saturday.

Many beachgoers, as well as seabirds and marine mammals, have been covered in a thick glaze of Tag. Progress on containing the spill has been hampered by the fact that rescue workers, even those wearing HAZMAT suits and respirators, can only work hour-long stints due to the overpowering, ultra-concentrated odor. Chemical decontamination showers on the scene have repeatedly run out of water.

Cleanup crews work around the sinking tanker; Spike TV plans to air an original movie depicting the workers' efforts later this fall.

"It's the equivalent of a military-grade nerve agent, so mucous membranes are highly vulnerable," Federal Emergency Management Agency Director R. David Paulison said. "Without proper and immediate decontamination, it can cause severe rashes, sloughing of skin, and can even strip the lining of your throat if unprotected."

Also undermining the relief efforts, rescuers on the scene said, is the unwillingness of many beachgoers to cooperate with the cleanup.

"It's an uphill battle," volunteer Frank Hagen said. "We spend five hours scrubbing the toxins from the hair and skin of a victim, and then the next day, they douse themselves in it all over again and head back to the beach."

Some environmental experts said that the biological ramifications of the spill may not be fully known for decades. A disaster of this magnitude could have a profound and adverse effect on the breeding patterns of Mid-Atlantic populations for generations, according to Princeton University biologist Leslie Platz.

"There are billions of insects who release sex pheromones to attract mates and their ability to receive these messages could be overwhelmed by the Tag odor," Platz said. "And human females may become too repulsed to ever consider mating with another male."

Even if the spill is successfully contained and cleaned, Platz added, the lingering odor "could still make our grandchildren feel awkward and uncomfortable 50 years from now."

While Paulison expressed hope that progress will be made with the arrival of chemical skimming boats later this week, the spill is already being likened by many to the worst health-and-beauty-aids disaster in American history, the 2001 explosion of a Mitchum deodorant plant in Chicago's South Side, which covered the city in a toxic Mitchum Man cloud for three months.

Editor's note: This may look like a real news story, but it's NOT. It is from the The Onion, a humor publication that calls itself "America's finest news source." CNN may beg to differ, but we do enjoy a good laugh, and hope you will enjoy a weekly selection of their satire

Cheryl, love the new avatar. I tried for all the wenches this am but missed out by 2 posts:confused3 .

But I am getting close to the 1000th post:)

You gave it a good shot, but were vastly outnumbered 5 to 1 or so....

Good Monday morning everyone!!!!!

Kevin said to thank everyone for the birthday wishes!!!:thumbsup2 :) We were gone most of yesterday - as usual - fit a birthday lunch in between DD's activities!!!

A cruise story: in-laws were on the Celebrity Century last week. They had a little excitement: the ship took on 12 or 16 (depending on who you talk to) Cuban refugees...they put them up in cabins on the same deck as my in-laws, but with a guard outside the door. They tried to get Grand Cayman to take them, but no luck. So, right before arriving back in Miami they met up with a Coast Guard vessel and handed them over....

Also, I picked up a copy of "Porthole" magazine - there is a nice little article on Castaway Cay and a cute article on "How to Survive Formal Night"...also, if anyone is interested - it is $20 for a subscription, but right now the entire cost goes to a cancer charity....

also. I keep forgetting to mention this - watched 30 Rock a week or so ago: Baldwins character is talking about his brother (played by Nathan Lane) and he says "I haven't even seen him since that time I bailed him out of Disney jail"...... made me chuckle....

gotta go ketchup!!!!:wizard:

tom31b:

Welcome Home! Isn't DVC just taking the DIS insanity to a whole 'nother level?

OK...

It's only 783 more postings to the 50,000th posting! Who's with me for a friendly little sprint to the 50K tonight ? <chuckles... OK... maybe its' a little too far off for one evenin's run... :confused3

It will get there a lot quicker in this thread as opposed to the WB thread. When we crossed 49K, someone jokingly suggested we steal their pirate. I peeked in there and they were about 200 away. Last night they had moved forward about 20 posts.... here, another 200 went by.....

Speaking of 50 K, should there be a premium put on such a "monumental" post? Maybe 10 bonus pirate: so when the swabbies take it we move up real quick?

Cookie tray! You guys are too cool.

OOOHHH camera geek talk. What kind did you get?
BTW Tom, cute boys. How old are they? My monkeys are almost 7 & 8.

Maybe we'll have a website by then...I can post 'em.
[/COLOR]

Let's see if they bring the cookie tray to Deck 7 Aft?

Isn't "geek" a bit redundant on a Disney board on the internet with lots of computer and camera talk? I wear my geekness proudly. Its a Canon EOS 30D (DW:love: and FIL went in together and gave me whole setup for my birthday). I (years and years and years ago) used to have a Minolta 35mm and loved what you can do with SLR. Hated going to all in one digital (except for the savings on film developing). Couldn't justify the cost of digital SLR with other priority (kids, home, Disney, etc.) but I guess I was drooling too much so they got it for me. Still playing with it and "re-learning" all the tricks.

My DSs are 7 and 9 now. Same age bracket as your kids.

How long have you been in Anchorage? I went to a conference there 2 years ago, neat little town.

Website??? We don't need no stinkin' website..... (yes we do, only kidding)

I'm doing ketchup here for like 5 days. I'm going to try and organize my multi quotes by general topics. So, it's not going to be in date order. Hope this make the reading easier...

Since when does booze come in pounds?? :confused3

... (deleting out the other 84 sections of this record breaking multi-post)

We certainly could. They'd be silk screened, not embroidered. The quotes are for 4-color screening. I'm not certainl how stiff the design will be. If the printer can't get the pillow cases, I can get them through my dye catalog. In addition to some really outstanding pens for the signing - they use dye not ink. Color fast and wash safe.

Last year, we had them sign Laundry Bags rather than pillow cases. We figured the boys would get more use out of them. NOT! :sad2:

... (deleting out the other 84 sections of this record breaking multi-post)

When DH stopped being a SAHD and went back to work the deal was we got a cleaning lady. I'm never not having one again. The time it gives us as a family is priceless.

I guess the question is really, are you happy with the service? Is having your house cleaned for you worth $75. If not - find another, less expensive person, or do it yourself. How long it takes her to get the job done really isn't the issue.

... (deleting out the other 84 sections of this record breaking multi-post)

Did I do it? Did I set a new record for the longest multi quote?? :rotfl2:

Booze comes in lbs. when its in a backpack on someone's (MR's?) back.

The laundry bags sound cool too.... I wonder if they will notice if 300 people drop of the same screened pillow case....

Cleaning person, love the time it give DW and I. We get an average of 3 solicitations left in our mailbox each week for cleaning services.

I don't know if its a record, but it is certainly a challenge for all of us to top...:rotfl:

Believe you me, you can have my alarm clock. I too hardly ever get 8 hours of sleep a night, it's usually more like 6 hours. I did wake up around 4 this morning, but did talk myself into going back to sleep, then woke back up at 4:55................

I get about the same, but am up later instead of up early...
