In the Anchorage area:

Shortest day of the year (12/21) we get about 5.5 hours of daylight. Sun comes up around 10am & goes down about 3:30 pm.

Longest day of the year (6/21) we get about 22.5 hours of daylight & it never really gets dark for about a month in the summer. The sun goes down and it is more like dusk.

So every day of the year we are gaining or losing somewhere between 1-7 minutes of daylight a day. My sunrise this morning "spung forward" 1 hour, 5 minutes and 45 seconds!

It sounds like thick shades in the windows are a must there.

And if you haven't heard, the trailer will be shown during the premier of this season's Dancing With the Stars on March 19. The contest is for a screening on the evening of the 18th.

COOL! I guess that means that we will be watching the entire thing...and I will have to yell at DH to not flip the channels during the commercials.

I will be doing ketchup work again today. Hope to ketchup with myself by chat time.

I
This zune thing all started when DD left my Ipod Nano on the plane. So I got Mark's and he bought the Zune. suppose to be better then Ipod Video? Then a miracle happened an my ipod that was left on the plane was found and returned by a mechanic and so DD now has that one. (she is paying for it though)

I love to hear stories like that. They restore my faith in the human race. :goodvibes

Firstly, I thought Zune was on the computer, so it's actually a machine. I am so bad with these things.....Our stinky teens get everything and we get the leftovers ugh! And I can't believe that a mechanic turned in you Ipod Nano, that IS a miracle. But I had to chuckle that your DD left YOUR Ipod on the plane. If I had a nickel for everything of mine my kids took and left somewhere I'd be a rich woman!!! But not only do they leave my and DH's stuff everywhere, they leave their own stuff everywhere too. Last week my DD, 17 mind you, left her coat at a dodgeball game. Left her Coat in the Middle of a New Jersey winter. How do you even do that. When you leave the dodgeball game and go out to your car, doesn't it dawn of you that you are COLD. Told her she had to replace her own American Eagle coat!! STINKY TEENS....you gotta love 'em

That is why DS will be buying his Ipod shuffle with his allowance money. :thumbsup2

That is great that you got it returned.:cheer2:
I got a wallet back a year later I lost at Planet Hollywood. Everything was in there except the cash of course. That is how I learned to travel with 2 ID's. This was pre 9/11 and I got to board the plane with a police report. I don't know what they would do nowadays.

That is how I got on the plane last September. Here is my story....

OK...so I guess that somewhere in the past few hundred pages they filled you in on my adventure Thursday. Well, I ran over to a friend's house to pick up her DS's GBA so that DS would be able to enjoy it on the trip. I was running around at 11 am filling out a rebate that had to be pmd by 9/2. I took my GC out of my wallet telling myself to be sure to put it back in my purse for the airport. Just as I finished, our ride showed up about 10 minutes early. That started throwing me off a bit since I was very nervous about the flight by that point. I also forgot DS's bag of food for lunch on the counter. Well, we picked up the kids and went right to the airport. We got in line for security and there were over 20 people still in front of us. The plane was late getting there so we weren't rushed. I got to the front to show the person our tickets and ID and my heart stopped. I knew that it was still on the counter at home. I didn't have the cell for the person who had just dropped us off and the only person with a key to our house was at a meeting and I didn't know where so the only option was to call another person to come pick us up, take us to the house to get my wallet, and take us back. Since we are about 10 minutes away, we could have just made it back to board the plane with little extra time. I was in tears by the time I went back to the check in counter where there were several people still waiting in line. The girl I went to said that it would be fine, I would get on the plane. When I asked how she said that she was giving me a ticket for a security screening. At that point I didn't care as long as I got on that plane & got to Baltimore ASAP.

While waiting in line with the kids again I was thinking about all the horror stories that I had heard about screening and was determined to have the kids come with me where ever I had to go. The guy in front of us started talking to DS and he learned that I forgot my wallet at home. I was trying to be positive so said that as long as we didn't get stuck in Charlotte, we would be fine since DH would have money & the CC. (I actually didn't even think about the fact that we would have had to stay at the airport there and NOT go to a hotel even if the airline offered it because I wouldn't be able to get back into the airport easily since it was much larger until I talked to Kristina on Saturday. ) Before I knew it, that man was handing me money. I felt funny taking it and declined it but then he said miss, you will have to get these kids something to eat if that happens. Please take the money. I couldn't turn it down after he said that.

So we get up to the scanner and the security people see my ticket for the screening and start discussing what to do about the kids. One said that they needed to be screened too but others said they didn't need ID so they shouldn't be. I told them that as long as they explained everything to them and I stayed with them, I had no problem with them being checked too. Of course at that point I had no idea what that entailed. They had each of them go thru the scanner and stand to the side to wait for me. I went thru then stood off to the side where one of the female guards simply did a very quick pat down and that was it. We went over to wait for them to go thru our bags. They had to search everything. I have to say that the people who did that were wonderful with the kids. One woman handed DD my sandals. She started giggling and said they were not hers. When she did give her a sandal it was only one. A few people I talked to said that wouldn't have happened at a larger airport but I don't think that they broke any rules. Apparently this happens sometimes. Maybe the people here just aren't on a power trip wanting to intimidate others just because they have that job. ???

Lil" Grumpy it's funny that you wife doesn't think she looks her best...I think she looks beautiful.....it just proves that we all hate ourselves in pictures. We sent out a Christmas Card this year we got on the Magic of the four of us. After I mailed them out we were talking about it over dinner and it started to come out of each and every one of us HATED the way we looked in the pic. We each thought everyone else looked great, but hated ourselves! Just human nature I guess. Thank you for your kind comments about my kids.....And although they are your "typical" teenagers, DH & I feel very lucky that they are good kids.....you can't ask for more than that and that's the TRUTH!!!

I usually don't like the way I look in pictures. I hate the one of our family, but think that everyone else looks great...so I got it. I wish that I had worn my hair down...found out last cruise too late that I don't like the way I look in pictures with my hair up anymore.

Here is the Christmas Card that we sent this year to everyone, only to find out later that we all HATE ourselves in the picture. Too Funny!

Hey, when did I get to be the shortest one...................not fair!

I think that you all look great. :)

Hello everyone.

I think it is hopeless to ketchup.:confused3 I was 500 posts back and the board shut down last night. Today I went into Chicago for the Housewares Show. Now I am 1500 behind.:scared1: :scared1:

Is that all???? I started out almost 3K behind. OY!:scared:

Good Morning all!

It's a balmy 30* here. Chaparoning dd's field trip to Uof M Dearborn for maple sugaring. Thankfully it's only a couple of hours. It's not bad out there, but if the wind kicks up it will be. I've already run off the PTO minutes from yesterday and distributed them in the teachers' boxes. It seems I work harder on a day off than I do at work!

Well off to ketchup until 11:15, blast off time! I get to drive the teacher!:teacher:

So DW made meatloaf tonight. It was great but I did comment that I would have liked to have a litte more of the sauce. Then she hit me with it (no not literally, but close :duck: ;))...the "sauce" was plain ketchup! I thought it was the red meatloaf sauce but she says that "red sauce" is just ketchup! :sad2:

Not that this is going to settle any sort of argument or anything, I just want to make sure I didn't "invent" red meatloaf sauce in my overactive imagination! So, I want to know what y'all prefer on your meatloaf...plain ketchup, "red sauce" (which I found out varies from ketchup with Worcheteshire and/or soy) or brown gravy?

I put ketchup in the meatloaf before it is cooked. We use brown gravy on it along with the mashed potatoes. :) Today would be a great day for that but I have some scallops to fix...probably with a cream sauce on linguini.

And as fer the "Canadian Mounter" quoted above ... <chuckles> ... here's an image for the morning shift to chuckle over... Dudley Do-Right is actually doing an animated salute - but it only cycles ONCE per loading. Good luck catching it in animated action!

Morning everyone!
It poured last night. Much needed rain, but the dog shakes everytime he hears thunder. Poor baby. Nothing calms him down.Sometimes he even shakes the bed.
Crash sorry the little one still under the weather.
Andy, tell Angelina Congrats:cheer2: At least she's working in a fun place where she will look forward to going to work.
The DGKS all 3 of them have been out of control since they got here, so they may be grounded in different rooms if they don't calm down.
Breakfast time for the grownups.....

Oh! Can anyone remind me what those competitive school Lego teams were called and where to find out more about them? Thanks.

I'm gonna wander off now... he little one is fast asleep and I'm gonna try and put her down now...

G'nite folks! at least the sun has not risen yet here....

OK, I have a question that's off-topic...(well, if there is such a thing as "off-topic for this thread...LOL)

But here goes. I would like to know how many of you take advantage of friends and relatives for free babysitting EVERY time you go out and need a sitter. I only ask because it seems that EVERYONE we know has kids. All of our close relatives (brothers, sisters) and all of our friends have children. And we have none (at least for the time being, hopefully we will soon!)
So I feel like we are the "go-to" folks whenever our friends and relatives need a babysitter. And it's always free. It's not like I would ever expect any of them to pay, but no one has ever even offered to pay. And don't get me wrong. I don't fault anyone for seeking out free child care once in a while. But it seems like every weekend we are being hit up by someone for free babysitting. I just recently started feeling a little bitter...And I feel bad for feeling bitter about it all. But I am. I guess maybe I'm tired of watching other people's kids, and I want one of my own!! If I'm going to take care of kids with no pay, I'd like to at least get to claim them on my taxes!! :lmao:
(that tax thing is just a joke, in case some state worker is reading this...LOL)

Yes, I think that is taking advantage of you...but they can't unless you let them. Time for you to make some plans on the weekend yourself IMO. After you have your little one, you aren't going to have too much free time so I would take advantage of the time now.

As in the Zip tours we were discussing? Basically they strap you to a harness, hook you to a cable hundreds of feet above the ground and send you sailing. Kinda like Batman using one of the bat gadgets to move between buildings. :rotfl:

Meatloaf glaze from the 50's Prime Time Cafe at MGM Stdios:

1 cup ketchup
2 Tbs. brown sugar
2 tsp. mustard
1 tsp. worcestershire sauce

Yummy!

But I'd love to have your scallops, too! I have a hard time with my guys convincing them that no meat on Fridays is the right thing to do during Lent.
