Normally we don't eat dinner until 7 or 7:30pm at home either but last time we were on the cruise and had the late dinner we were all dragging. The kids do better with early. We figure we can just go to topsiders if there is a night or two that we want to eat a little later or getting back from port later. That is the beauty of this longer cruise I don't feel like I will be missing out if we don't get to the dining room once or twice :goodvibes

We have an 18mo old DD that doesn't do well eating in public for dinner anyway so we thought it best to try to do the earlier dinner in the hopes that she won't be too tired to sit through the meal!

Cool. If you have Google Earth and turn on the 3D Buildings option, they do have the castle in 3D :)

We decided that that digital underwater camera is not worth the $25. My old cell phone had the same 0.3 Mpixels and I just got a new phone for a new better camera. 0.3 isn't enough to do anything with.

here's one of..my ":goodvibes "..mismce..for your daugther & her

I just called my cellular carrier (Verizon) and here are their current rates for using "Cellular At Sea" onboard the Magic when not in port:

voice calls are $2.49/minute
text messages sent are 50 cents each
text messages received are 5 cents each

Voice calls while in a Mexican port are only 99 cents/minute with text message rates the same as above, so voice calls are cheaper in port.

Voice calls in Aruba or the Bahamas are $1.29/minute. Verizon does not have service in Panama or Colombia.

Thanks for this info! I also have Verizon, but I was wondering if you need to have any special "plan" for these rates. Do you happen to know? TIA!

What she said! I have activated international calling, but don't know if I need to have a special plan.

I definitely would fall asleep in the show. I can stay up later if I'm doing things, but if I'm sitting watching something, I'll fall asleep.

I can't drink or go to clubs on a full stomach either... I like being able to enjoy show and walk a bit and then enjoy nightlife..

Table is shattered, a chunk of deck rail is gone.

I really truly hate our school & district - for many reasons, but that's my reason for ranting today.

Uh oh...

I told ya...those tables are cursed... We lost ours too if you remember me telling ya...

oh and i'm guessing those reasons 2,342,098,575 and 2,342,098,576 for not staying in the DC area...:rolleyes1

Trees are bad in this area...reasons not to live on a wooded lot...

I can't drink or go to clubs on a full stomach either... I like being able to enjoy show and walk a bit and then enjoy nightlife..

I don't drink (not usually anyway.... of 3 Disney cruises I've only had 2 drinks! LOL!) and I have never been to any of the clubs..... That's what is so great! Everyone can choose different things/times!!! :yay:
We do some of the family activities in the evenings -- sometimes between show/dinner, etc...

Ok, so wasn't there talk about how wonderful it is to have mature trees in your yard??? Notsomuch yesterday. We have 10-12 HUGE oak trees in our yard. 50-60 footers. Big storm came through and knocked a giant branch down - probably fell 30-40 feet onto our deck and tempered glass patio table that seats 6. Table is shattered, a chunk of deck rail is gone.

We've had so much rain here in the last month that the ground is just completely saturated and trees are falling down. Huge trees are down all over our neighborhood - 2 are blocking streets and took power lines down with them. Our power went out yesterday afternoon and I doubt it will be back up for days.

On DH's way home yesterday, he missed being hit by a falling tree by 2 car lengths. He was right by Mount Vernon, heard a crash and saw nothing but tree in his rear view mirror. Truck 2 spots behind him was completely destroyed. The driver was OK, but get this, only DH and one lady stopped to help. The road was completely blocked and no one bothered to get out of their car to help. I hate this place for that reason...not because trees are falling down.

Oh and get this - they didn't cancel school...so the kids got on the bus, I came in to work & I just got a call that school was cancelled and I have to go pick them up. We work a freeking hour from home! The after-school program is keeping them, but we have to pick them up ASAP because the kids shouldn't be there without power. Huh? So why not cancel school this morning?? I really truly hate our school & district - for many reasons, but that's my reason for ranting today.

Anyway, I'm happy to report that we are all safe - but what a pain. At least we planned to go away this weekend anyway!

Sorry everything is so crazy . . . that school system really is mental for not canceling to begin with ! . . . but at least you are all safe.

Right now we are waiting on a response from DCL.

I think last year I knew when I was tasting before I knew where I was sleeping. So we got the info before 30 days.

Thanks, Monica -- I'll keep my fingers crossed . . .

In 2 cruises we've been to one of the clubs(to play "Match Your Mate"),no shows and I "saw" 1 movie.....zonked out! :faint:

Thanks for the advice on the fish extenders. I was thinking along those lines, and you all have confirmed my thoughts. I think we will do with dis names or nicknames.

Sorry about your school sk8ting mom. What a pain in the rear! I don't know why they wouldn't have cancelled if no power. That just doesn't make sense.
I'm glad everyone is ok.

So if we do manage to tip the ship over, does that mean we get to stay on the Magic for the rest of our lives????

:cool1:

I go to all the shows! I LOVE the shows! Hercules was our favorite!!!! The man that taught 17dd's performance group this year played *Phil* on the Disney Wonder!!!! :yay: :yay: And he has nothing ut nice things to say about DCL!

I haven't seen any movies on board...not even on the 10nt..... I think DH and the kids have. I know youngest dd saw a movie or two with the kids club.

Dh bought be gold booties w/enamel b-stone colors of the kids! Unfortunately we haven't then again and we don't have one for our youngest!

Pamela, are you all gonna go? It was fun to watch and I have to say I am so glad we don't have to we dress like that everyday--I can't imagine how hot ladies got.:)

Yes, we go every year - the house where it is held belongs to a good friend and is only about 3 blocks from my home. They have borrowed our party tents last year and this year so there is some shade - they get setup to the side so they don't destroy the old-fashioned view of the house and lawn. I don't dress up for it! My friend and several of the folks from the museum to that part. Last year it was really hot and humid and they were all pretty miserable in those costumes.

As I was reading this, I thought I was going to have to PM you for the link. We buy from Amazon every so often. Might as well have some of our purchase helping somebody out!:thumbsup2

Thank you! That is really nice. This is definitely the type of fundraiser I like - no one is buying anything they don't want! We started it in December (a little too late for the Xmas shopping season) and have earned about $200 so far. It isn't "big money", but every bit helps and I am hoping that it will grow as we get the word out to more parents, teachers, relatives, friends, etc.

We got black and white

We also bought both - DH will wear his after the cruise when he is working on the house and garden, I'll wear mine to the gym and around the house and DS loves wearing shirts from past trips just about anywhere.

Thanks for this info! I also have Verizon, but I was wondering if you need to have any special "plan" for these rates. Do you happen to know? TIA!

For Mexico in the past, I have just called and made sure the International service was enabled for my phone. THose rates are the "Standard Rates" meaning that you don't have any special International Plan. The phone just has to be enabled so that it will work outside the USA which takes about 2 seconds.

Pamela

Ok, I know I've seen it many times before - but this board moves so quickly.... After carefuly consideration we've decided to sign up for the fish extender giving, etc. But I can't recall where/how to signup?..

Help? :badpc:

:lmao: There's a SNOW advisory in southern Colorado right now... In fact, it was snowing here earlier. It's JUNE already enough with the snow! GEEZ!

THE PLANS

Some thoughts and plans for the cruise... (summarized on our website)

Pre Cruise Events

Official T-Shirts – Details click here
(Task Force Leader esteri)

We are putting together T-Shirts with the thread logo on the front and back, details and prices to be available shortly. The suggestion is to wear black for embarkation and white through the Panama Canal.

Pirates Wristbands – Mail order in May or June
Ordering details mid-May. Click for more info.

Post card surprise mailing from DL before cruise
(TASK FORCE LEADER NEEDED)
Wouldn’t it be great to have your loving kids, spouse, friend, etc. receive a post card mailed from Disneyland in the weeks before the cruise?

Mini Pirate Cruise Journals Task Force PM sk8ingmom to participate
We are taking a group approach to creating journals for the kids. There will be a double page spread for each day with a few activities (word search, solve a puzzle, find the answer to a question type of thing) related to where we were that day (examples from prior cruises: look for 6-toed cats in Key West, learn a few Spanish words in Costa Maya, etc.). On sea days, there will be some on-board things to do (how many steps is our room from the kids club, go down the Mickey slide at least 5x, how fast is the ship going right now). Creating the pages requires a little bit of kid-level research about each of the ports and and some creatve brain time making up activities. If we have enough interested parents, each person could volunteer to 'research' a port and come up with a few kid-level facts, questions, activities. Sk8ingmom would be happy to create the page layouts and .pdfs for people to download and print pre-cruise. Any takers? More details on Planning Boards

Saturday August 16, Disneyland

Disneyland DIS meet in the days prior to the cruise
(Task Force Leader DisneyPilots – PM to participate)

Meet and greet fellow Pirates at Disneyland in the days leading up to the cruise. Have a chance to begin connecting names, faces and DIS id’s before we embark on our journey.

Disneyland Fantasmic DIS meet (Task Force Leaders Bellelinus and got2travel )
Meet and greet fellow Pirates at Disneyland for Fantasmic! A few of the Pirates will be saving seats for the whole gang, sign up on the Planning Boards. The Fantasmic show at DL is different that WDW in that it is not in a stadium but the area surrounding the Rivers of America in Frontierland and New Orleans Square. The show is better since they use the actual ships that sail around the river.

Port Area Dinner Meet
For those who will be staying in the San Pedro area on August 16, a group of Pirates will be heading to an area restaurant for dinner and socializing. Visit the Planning Boards and say “hi” if you want to join us.

Port Area Tall Ships Display
For those who will be staying in the San Pedro area on August 16, the tall ships will be visiting the port area. Roger (Goofyonthehiseas) posted some details on the Planning Boards if you want to know more.

Sunday August 17

Charter bus/busses to pick up DISers from DL area hotels to take us to the port – PM SmeeCanada if interested
(Task Force Leaders - Grandma x3, Bellelinus, smeecanada)

This one is self-explanatory. Why worry about DCL transfers, taxis, limos, etc. We are looking to have a few stops at the Ho-Jo’s and Disneyland hotels to carry interested Pirates to the port. A brief stop at a grocery/liquor store is also being considered.

Meet and Greet at the Terminal
This one is self-explanatory. Once you have checked in, can see (and for some of us taste) the Disney Magic, look for the gang in their embarkation day T-Shirts (most in black). We will be grabbing some space in the terminal to shake hands, hug, laugh and say "Great to have a face to go with the DIS id, we can deal with names later!"

Meet and Greet during sail away
This one is self-explanatory. After you have grabbed something to eat, dumped the day bags at the room and are ready to hit the decks, look for the Pirate gang hanging out on Deck 10 by the ….. well, not sure where yet, but we will discuss the location and take lots of pictures of each other and the Sail Away Party!

(Task Force Leader – Sarangel - PM to participate)

Join the ladies in Palo for a sophisticated Pirate brunch.

Beer/Wine/Tequila/Martini Tastings (as a group) – e-mail to participate
(Task Force Leaders got2travel and MrsScooby)

Have you ever wanted to learn the difference between Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc? Have you wondered whether the rule really is white with fish, red with beef? Does the term “shaken not stirred” mean anything to you other than James Bond ? Are you just as confused as I am.....Barley, Hops, Pilsner, Lager, Stout..... what does it all mean? “Lick, Slam, Suck” - no it's not x-rated but do you know what it means? Come join us for group tastings. We are working on arranging private tastings during our sea days. At this time we do not have specific details, but we are looking for a show of interest. We are requesting Wine, Beer, Tequila, Rum and Martini tastings. No, we will not be tasting all those at the same time. There will be separate sessions planned for each. And for those of you (like me ) who want to attend them all, they will be scheduled at different times. (And hopefully different days!) These will be exactly like the tastings that DCL regularly schedules, but will be limited to those folks in our group. Each tasting will cost $12-15 per person (subject to DCL's current rates).

Sea Day 1
Monday, August 18, 2008

Room Tour (Task Force Leader A Litle Pixie Dust – PM to participate)
Ever wonder how the other ½ lives? Take a tour of Category 12 up through Category ?? cabins to see what they look like. Volunteers needed to organize and to host with their cabins.

Kids Meet and Greet/Post Card Exchange (Task Force Leader Needed – discuss on the Planning Boards)
How about a hometown/home state postcard swap on the first sea day as a kids meet and greet? Each kid can bring postcards from their state or local area. On the back of the postcard a greeting can be written, including things like the state birds, motto and other news. We can bring a map of the world and see how many states and countries could be colored in - many children have not met so many others from different parts of the states/world. This information can then be used in a school report (for those who may be missing school, great way to show the educational value of this trip). You can go to the local Dollar stores for postcards. You can go to websites that list the various songs, mottos, mascots of the state and print these and paste them to the back. A screen name can be included for reference. Other suggestions include a scrapbook or journal for the trip. Visit the Planning Boards and discuss.

Cabo San Lucas
Tuesday August 19, 2008 Cabo San Lucas Arrive 9:00 a.m. Aboard 4:30 p.m.

Cabo Wabo Tequila and Fun – Group event
Before heading back to the ship, stop by Cabo’s hot spot, owned by Sammy Hagar for a shot of Tequila or just some fun with the Pirates

Cabo Dolphins
A few of the Pirates are thinking about doing the Cabo Dolphins on their own or through DCL. If you are interested, post on the thread and they will tell you what they have planned. (DCL may have booked all available openings, check with Cabo Dolphins for non-DCL availability).

Boat Tour of Lands End
A number of the beach goers are thinking of swinging out to see the Los Arcos formation either on the way to or from the beach. We will look at whether a large charter or smaller glass bottom boats are easiest to arrange. Discuss it on the Planning Boards.

Puerto Vallarta
Wednesday August 20, 2008 Puerto Vallarta Arrive 9:30 a.m. Aboard 11:30 p.m.

Dining On Board Plans/Info

Solo Cruisers

For those of us traveling solo or single parents or anyone who has a spouse that doesn't want to do Palo.

Let's link up for dinner one night. I don't know how to make it happen, but if anyone knows, can you tell me please? I'll also ask around. We might have to wait until we get on the ship. I don't think we can get the private dining room for dinner, but depending on interested maybe we can get 2 or 3 tables of 4??

Anyone interested please PM got2travel and she'll keep a list

Not a lot in that part of the burbs. I imagine you're going to be at ice works in Aston. (cruisin'mike & I are a stone''s throw away)

There is a roller skating rink close to ice works.

I will not skate with a fox
I will not skate in a box
I will not skate in a house
I will not skate with a mouse
I will not skate here or there
i will not skate anywhere!
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I broke my leg in March roller skating with my kids and I'm just now off crutches and casts so..............he he he.
