If child rearing was the simple cookie cutter routine the talk show snake oil salesmen make it out to be... we would never have stress as parents.

I'm glad I have two boys (ref the "wound for life" issue) but they can be as different as night and day and take two approaches to the same problems

Coming up with different punishments has been the most difficult for me.....

Good lord, I didn't even notice it was time for a pirate! :confused3 I was just happily spending a few minutes catching up and replying and never even looked at the post count! Congrats Monica:thumbsup2

Question for the crafters and seamstresses out there, besides ebay where is a good place for buttons? I need a lot of them for DS's costume so Joanns and Micheals gets expensive. I'm not finding any suitable on ebay. So where else can I look?

Hi All! Haven't been DISing much lately.. crazy life gets in the way. My mom moved in with us & that has been interesting:rotfl2: :confused3 :rotfl: My new job has its moments & its the end of the school year & the school finally figured out that I can do layouts... so I did the awards program, award certificates, etc. with a preschool grad program thrown in for good measure. Good news! My DS got an award... for his invention (more on that another time).. But it was real cool & now he is being taken more seriously for his efforts. :cool1: Any whoo... I'm really here to share a button place with Monica. I used to go here a lot when I was younger... but now they're on the internet: http://www.windsorbutton.com/. It might help??? Anyway... great to be back... Hope everyone is well and safe! I'll try to keep up better now that things are kinda back to normal... whatever that is.:confused3

Congrats Monica!! :cool1: Isn't that 2 in a row ;) How many do you have now 9 or 10?

Monica - try thrift stores, goodwill stores or even the junkier antique stores. We`have often found jars or boxes of buttons - DS uses them for some of his art. I assume they come from people who just saved/collected them for years and then decide to clean out the clutter.....

Pamela

Check at Walmart if you have one near you. Walmart usually has a nice crafting dept with lots of sewing notions. Good luck!!

I've looked at a few thrift stores, I just don't have the patience I guess. Plus I need so many of the exact same button, I've rarely seen packages that have that many similar buttons. I will at some point be going through my mother's stash. But again, I'm not sure I'll find as many as I need.

And our Walmart's craft section is a joke. I guess people around here don't craft or sew. There's not any fabric in it at all. Although the Walmart I used to go to before we got one here does have fabric. Might journey over there one day.

We need to start paying more attention!! LOL!

Congratulations!!!

When they hit sixteen take away the car keys. Losing freedom is a fate worse than death for a teen ager. :rotfl:

I've used that one before!!! :lmao: I tell peopel that 16yr olds are the best behaved because they want to drive! LOL!

I wish I had my old button box. Believe it or not, when we were first married DH worked for a button company!!! I had scads of buttons they gave him but somehow they got lost when we moved.

Monica, have you done a search on google for clothing buttons?
The other thing I would suggest is ask a local tailor, let them know you are looking of inexpensive buttons for a costume, they may have some ideas

Here's one from our trip - probably about the time that others were meeting up for the day.

Will plan better next time - we bought AP's - cheaper than buying 3 day passes for August and we get to go back - bonus.....:cool1:

Great picture Wendy. Looks like everyone was having a blast on my favorite ride.

FIL - is going to be released later on today. He has an infection -- intestininal -- and his ulcer is acting up so, he is on an antibiotic and a prescription pepcid (?).

Dh said he was extrememly dehydrated -- I told dh to remind FIL that rum & coke doesn't count as a liquid! ;)

Dh is still with FIL and is going to be the one to handle all the details.

One of the funniest things (at least ot dh & I) is last night before dh left FIL was panicked.....FIL --- *I don't have any cash on me.* :rotfl:

Dh told him not to worry that that he didn't need to tip the nurses during the night and they didn't have a bar! LOL!

Glad to hear they found out what was going on and have a plan to treat him. Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery.

Epson makes the best photo printers! I own several of them...... :thumbsup2

Do you print door signs on magnetic paper, and if so, which model do you recommend? Just curious, since we haven't tried to print any signs yet, so i'm not sure how our printer will handle the magnetic paper.

Howdy all! What a day. I really earned my pay today and next week will be the same. Rushed around to cover everything I needed to get done cause I'm off tomorrow. I'l' be working field day at dd's school so no rest for the wicked!:lmao:

Stephanie glad to hear FIL is doing good. That is always scarry.

Weather here is getting overcast. We are suspose to have thunderstorms tomorrow so field day maybe indoors. DD is so excited about field day and than she is going to a birthday party sleep over. I get to play!:cool1:

My DS has field day tomorrow too! It was suppose to be last week, but they canceled it due to rain.

There is a wonderful book that I read when my daughter was having trouble with the "MEAN GIRLS" that really changed my mind set and helped me help her. The book is called "Odd Girl Out". It was written by a woman who studied the behaviors of adolescents girls towards each other and then traced the impact of these behaviors in adult women. Bottom line - Boys get mad and get over it. - Girls can be mean in a way that wounds for life. I think it is must read for all parents of adolescent girls. It helped us make some tough calls on things like schools and have a language to talk to her about what she was going through.

I don't know about you all but parenting is not easy and you want the best for your kids but sometimes I don't know what that is so I will take all the help I can get.

Hmmmmm I have that book. I was forced to read it for a child development class, but now that you're mentioning it, maybe I should have DD14 take a look at it. She is such a "follower" lately & it drives me batty.

Thats good news that he is home and all is well.

Update on my FIL - he has decided he will not live the rest of his life with a feeding tube so now its just a matter of time before he ends up on the hospital with an infection, he really can't swallow well at all. He is on a soft food diet and apparently they may try some sort of stimulation to his throat to see if they can get it to work again for him. Thanks for all the prayers everyone!!

I'm so sorry.

And they didn't put a hold on the charge???? The security servers must have you on their list.:rotfl2:

Oh no. Now I'm on Arlene's list!

We've had more than 10 tornados in S. Wisconsin today :scared1: More than an inch of rain today. They are shutting down areas on the interstate due to flooding. Soon I will be able to float down there

Yikes! How's your backstroke?

I'm glad I have two boys (ref the "wound for life" issue) but they can be as different as night and day and take two approaches to the same problems

::yes:: My boys are often night-and-day, but I like boys. I wanted boys both times - people were shocked! I don't like groups of women and I am one. (A woman, not a group of them)

Andy, Austyn will love having Sarah for dinner.

So, should I beat everyone else to the cannibal comment??

Thats good news that he is home and all is well.

I know it is tough for all of you. It is so hard to understand the decision process when it isn't your body that has stopped working. Your FIL thinks he is doing what is right for him, but I'm sure it is difficult to stand by and watch.

Good one. I have to have a special brush too. I have kinda thick hair and there is only 1 brush that does not yank the crud out of it. I can only get it over the internet or 1 place in OK that I have found.

Hmm, where in OK?
