Happy Friday pirate: One down, 2 to go ... New Year's Resolutions that is ;) This year I resolved to 1) sell our house 2) find us a new home 3) get a new/better job :)

I am happy to report that I have been scarce around here this week because after a little bit of back-and-forth, DH and I accepted an offer on our house yesterday :woohoo: Only one teeny tiny issue ... the buyers want closing on August 29th  Already told the Realtor, "that AIN'T happening"

Now I'll be spending my long weekend house hunting and resume mailing :rotfl2:

How did the house hunting go?

I'm so far behind, but this caught my eye. Mary Ann, I'm so happy for you!!! That's great news!

Thank you, Mike!

HI Gang,
Mary Ann - Congrats!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

TGIF!!!!!

Thank you, Chris
Party In My Room !!

After much hand wringing, teeth gnashing and a flurry of emails, I found out yesterday that my TA was able to get us upgraded to a CAT 6 (GTY don't ya know)

We'll be the room with the open door. Come & hang out with us !!

:woohoo: :woohoo: Congrats :woohoo: :woohoo:

okie dokie... I'll have to order it this weekend then

WOOHOOO wenches rule....

Congrats on the pirate: pirate: pirate: hey, who moved the pirate icon around

There is also a store called Beverages and More (BevMo) out here..here is one in Long Beach but it is off of the path to get to the port..but they are pretty much a store that sells lots of different wines etc..

Here is the link to their website (maybe some of you will have a rental car and wish to go prior to the bus) There is also a location in brea which is approximately 15 minutes from DL. There is also one in Torrance which is about 20 minutes from LAX.

http://www.bevmo.com/productlist.asp?area=home

Thanks for the link...I was going to do Trader Joe's, but his place might work out even better (if I can find it)

Since we have to have a mixture of banter and cruise related information, I have finally gotten this activity off the ground. I have wanted to do a scavenger hunt on the boat since last year. In the past I have made pirate maps for the kids and hid them around the house with clues leading to the next map. I tried to think of a way to transfer this idea to the Magic but I would really need to be on the Magic to come up with really good clues. Also having people stationed around the ship handing out the next map seems to be way to involved. So I did some research and discussed with Cherie and I think I have come up with a workable idea. I am open to comments, suggestions and help on making this a lot of fun. So here goes my idea.

  • We will make up teams out of those that sign up to participate. Depending on the interest the size of the teams may vary.
  • Each team will need one digital camera/team.
  • Each team will be will be given a list of items/places on the Magic that must be photographed with one of the team members in the photo.
  • First team that collects all of the designated photos and returns to the starting point will be deemed the winner.
  • The list of items/places may require some thought and knowledge of the ship.
Example: Paintbrush
Since this would be an easy one, the team would head off to Animators Palette and take a picture of the paintbrush outside the restaurant with one of the team members in the pictures. Trust me the actual list will not be this easy and will require all of your cunning pirate skills.

I would love to have a few volunteers that would be interested in coming up with items/places on the Magic for the list. Also help at the end to verify the winner. If you volunteer for this you will not be able to participate in the actual scavenger hunt.

I am thinking that this activity would be great on the sea day following Aruba. By that time people will have spent enough time around the ship to be familiar with most of areas.

Roger, I would be happy to help you plan this as well as help on the ship. Is there a thread somewhere on the piratezone for signing up????? I looked real quick, but didn't see anything. DH has a spa appointment, but I am free that sea day

Sorry I had to jump out of chat yesterday, a visitor turned up then we ended up going out for the evening.

This past week has been a little eventful to say the least...

My aunt (Mum's sister) in the UK has been unwell for sometime and was diagnosed with anorexia - she's in her 70's, they couldn't find anything physically wrong. They finally admitted her to a psychiatric facility and gave her another batch of tests and found it actually wasn't all in her head, she has pancreatic cancer which had already spread to her liver. This was last weekend they finally diagnosed that... and by this stage she was so weak and sick they couldn't even move her to a hospice - they gave her 2 months max to live.

I am so sorry. Your Aunt and entire family are in my prayers

Boy, you have been busy today. Good thing I was able to keep up at work.

I received a postcard from my TA from the Magic. I will post the picture for you. However in answer to one of the questions on the board today, I don't know where he mailed it from so don't know how long it took? Do not see any US postmark on it.:confused3 . He says he will be on the EB as well.

Hey guys.....have not been here much. Only 13 more days of school left (only 12 for the kids!) - WOOHOO! Sol's are over now and swim practice just started this week - life will slow down in a couple of weeks - at least that is what I am hoping!

I have a question..........this weekend, the local Disney Store was having a "clearance" sale. Are they closing all stores completely or just selling the last of the mechandise owned by Childrens' Place? I did get some t-shirts for everyone and a couple of pins that the kids liked. Everything was cheap but not dirt cheap. I am sad though if we lose the store completely :worried:

Hope all is well with everyone, I know I miss a lot, hopefully I can keep up better once school lets out. Then we just have to deal with swim team, karate and horseback rdg! Have a great week everyone!!!

Kevin says they're getting rid of their management company and doing it in-house instead. Closing out about 1/3 of the stores nationwide.

I was told that our local store was NOT closing

Hello to all the Pirates,
I am not sure if DW Caropooh has posted this or not, but we are coming too.
Last Sunday we noticed some availability and even though we had lots of problems on the site, we called DCL directly and were able to snag a GTY Cat 5.

your new shipmates are:
Me alanapapa
Caropooh DW
DD14 Disname tba
DD9 Disname tba.

We have some excursions booked, Palo Dinner, could not get a Palo Brunch.

We have late dining and have not found anyone to link with. YET

PS I am overwhelmed by these threads and am not going to try to catch up. I will just wing it for now.

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:
Okay.........Garage Sale is over!!!:headache: I only stayed open for 4 hours today. My grand total for my slush fund or lush fund for Toal from my gargae sale is $378!!!

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: More community booze money

OK ladies...formal shopping...
Am I the only one who can't find anything between skanky and frumpy??
I'm too old for one, too young for the other & regardless, my style is firmly planted between the two. :)

I'm wearing a dress I already have (and love) for Princess Night, but I'm looking for another. I stopped in David's Bridal today and found 2 that were decent on me. What do you think? Too bridesmaid??

I know I'm way behind, but I vote for #2

Sorry I don't make the rules around here....I just enforce them!

We are back from the DVC Event...it was nice..you got there and checked in. They gave you a card and you went from table to table and collected 6 limited edition DVC pins that you put on this card and it made a little story. One of the pins was the cruise ship with Donald relaxing by it. There was an open bar (wine and beer) and soda of course...some veggies and cheese and crackers to nibble..then you went in for the presentation...they did talk about the expansion for DCA..they are putting in a new land called Cars land that will have 3 attractions..the biggest one will be a car ride thru Radiator Springs that finishes with a race..kind of like test track. They are also changing the fron tof the park to look like Los Angeles circa 1930s. We then watched about different things you could do with your points...and incentives for buying more points stc..I swore I wasn't gonna buy any more points but I love my points....anyways..there were some giveaway which we didn't win..one was a piece of art from AKL....they kind of talked about the new ships..they will have 1200 guests cabins vs the 8** on the current ships...but they wouldn't say the locations of course. We also got to see some things on the new villas at DGC. There were some performers and characters. DD got pictures taken with the characters and we can downloaad them tomorrow.

The end came and there was more drinks and coffee and dessert..and of course..you could buy points..we decided to add points (of course!) and the best part...we were rewarded with a night in the Mickey Mouse Penthouse at the Disneyland Hotel (it had to do with the points we bought..we did not win anything) We are so excited! They were doing only 15 nights this summer and we got one of them! I was checking out the dates to see if one fell about the 15th or 16th of August (party in the penthouse!) but no luck. We are going the evening of July 12th!

All in all..it was a fun evening

:cool1: Party in the penthouse...Congrats

KSDisneyDad is my husband and since this is all he talks about, well, I thought I would join in. It's like the Disboards are my competition! I have been busy putting our house together. Twenty-three gallons of paint so far! Four rooms, three bathrooms and a laundry room to go. I will be spending my entire summer finishing the house and getting ready for the big trip. I am looking forward to spending some time getting to know people. It feels strange to be the one that doesn't know people because Christopher is the quiet one and I am the talker! I will try to get a better picture of us posted soon.

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

*Update* I won it!! :yay: With shipping included: $34.50. Add alterations at around $35.00....I can live with that.

SWEET :thumbsup2

i went to atlantic city yesterday. i only live about an hour away but i only go down there about once a year because there is really not much there. what usually takes me about an hour to get there took just over 2 hours. the atlantic city expressway was packed stop and go traffic. i won 73 dollars my wife lost 10 dollars. we were planning on eating at the rainforest cafe but they had a wait of 1 hour and 45 minutes.the rainforest cafe reminds me of disney.i do not know how some people can go to vacation here im here a few hours and i had enough.

I learned my lesson years ago. Went to AC July 4th weekend. Took 7 1/2 hours to get home at the end of the weekend. Had a great weekend, but never again.

So here are a few of your pictures from yesterdays sail away. There was no hoopla this year and we ran into only about 10 DISers watching her depart. All aboard was 4pm and the Magic pulled away promptly at 4:15. It was still fun to see her again.

Great pitcures, Roger

I some bad news about dinning at Ports O'Call Restaurant. I talked to the manager yesterday about reservations for 30-40 of us. He said if we have a group that large, he would have to treat it as a banquet with a fixed menu of 5-6 items :sad2: I then asked if we could make reservations separately and he said yes but we would probably not be seated together. So with this information could everyone wishing to have dinner at the port 8/16 give your opinion on the planning board.

Now, that is a bummer. Thanks for checking.

Shelley, this is a fun event an may I quote Brownie Olympics slogan "Everyone goes home a winner". This will all be for fun. I will probably tone down most of the clues based on your statement. I still intend to throw a couple in that will make you think. We are all on vacation to get away from thinking right. Its suppose to be a fun family event and I hope you will join us Shelley.

We would love to participate in this as well... :)

We did these this morning!!! I think they turned out okay!!!:cool1:

Those are too cool, Cheryl.

Hi Guys - still recovering but had to post - long story but in a nutshell - for those following my blog - my adopted family came with DH and I to meet my real family. As my pick-up plans did not acount for an additional 6 people and their luggage, we ended up walking outside (without prearrangement on DCL) and hired a blue primetime shuttle - it not only fit all 8 of us - but 18 large suitcases and about 6 large bags and duffle bag type souvenir type comfortable.

DCL was going to charge them $180 to take them to LAX where they would have spent ALL day as they had a red-eye so instead - I brought them home! :goodvibes First time I brought a whole family home but mom and dad were real nice about it and we spent the whole day together which is why I was MIA - I took Monday off to recoop. And part of today. ;)

So instead, they charge the whole van - $76 dollars to bring us from Port of Long Beach to Norwalk which is about 10 minutes from DL. I will say that the driver did seem upset to go there instead of someplace else as it may have reduced fare charge but oh well, I'm sure he was placated enough after.

The shuttle are located outside the entrance of the terminal - wait - inside the terminal but outside the building where the bags are picked up. It was super easy and DH and I are going to use them again. As I mentioned - no prearrangement required, we just walked up, spoke with the coordinator and he got us one van which fit 8 people - with room for 1-2 more (tightly though) with 8 we were very comfortable - and at least 20 pieces of luggage. I had my tequila at my feet but that was small. And yes - the tequila made it home! :lmao:

Welcome Home....loved reading your bolg
Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Calling all Pirates!

I have posted a poll, (yes another poll) on the website for the wording to go on the wrist bands. There are 5 choices. If anyone has any other ideas, post them there. Limited to 25 spaces.

Thank you. You can now go back to chatting!

Voted....Thanks, Tina

You remembered my favorite!!:cool1: :cool1: I am starting to cut down on them. I wish I did 14 months ago and I would be skinny!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
The cheesecake hershey kisses are my favorite now too, Cheryl:thumbsup2
Both you and the cashier at the supermarket were very big fans:lmao:

Roger....and the Doubletree Gang....do you want me to check out restaurants when I'm there in just TWELVE DAYS?? :yay:

That is, of course, if I live through the next twelve days.

Send me an e-mail or PM....need to exchange cell phones anyway.
I like that-"the Doubletree Gang":dance3:
Any info you get would be great:thumbsup2

K- will do. Thanks for checking it out for us.

I just got an email from my boss asking for the date I began telecommuting but they called it "Homeshoring". :confused3 Never heard that term before. We use "Offshoring" and "Smartshoring" a lot but never heard "Homeshoring".
Bill did build a fountain in our backyard over the weekend so I kinda have a shore close by. ;)
At the patent office it's called "hoteling" cause you are required to reserve a room once a week and come into the office for some face time ( 1 hour).
Hoping I get to hotel this summer:cloud9:

Has anyone hear of or own a "Tilley" hat?
I saw one yesterday at REI and really liked it- until I saw that it was $72.00! :faint: I have an abnormally large head (has to be big to hold all them there brains :lmao: ) and womens hats are rarely sized and the "One size fits all" does not fit me. This brand comes in many sizes and also has a 50 SPF rating. Before I drop that amount for a hat I want to know if others like it. I jsut bought a hat for $40 that I am not that crazy about so $72.00 is not that much more.
Darren's cousin bought one and was raving about how great it was. I have a hard time finding hats that fit too Coral:confused3

I've been thinking of all of these "task forces" that are in place for our Repo trip. And, don't get me wrong, I think they are all really great. I'm sure that we are going to have LOADS of fun.

I'm thinking, however, about another possibility. This comes from projects we do with our school children.

Wouldn't it be neat if we all got Disney cards, letters, et cetera ready and sent them to the men and women in our Armed Forces?

They enjoy the letters that they randomly receive from school students throughout our country. What if we Disney fanatics sent them our appreciation for giving us the freedom to go on these cruises as well?

One site that gives a lot of information about letter and supplies is www.lettersfromhomeprogram.org/

Another web site that one can go to for information about how/what to send military personnel is found at www.anysoldier.com

This is a great follow-up, I think, to our Memorial Day remembrances. Now that we have remembered the fallen, let's think about doing something for those presently serving.

Great idea:thumbsup2
Laura on the Westbound was writing about this in her blog as well.

Welcome, I have a DD14 and a DD10, how exciting for you to be able to get a room so late. We are also Category 5.

I was kind of thinking along those lines. I know we all want to get there early. There will be some that do not feel like the cost of the shuttle outweighs the free one.
I personally would be willing to pay extra to be there before the doors open.
I want to be there early too:worried:
Darren was asking me about renting a car like we did at MCO. Is there a place to return car rentals near the port ?
"Mom" just told me that I need to post here more often that people are wondering if I'm still going so here I am!

I've had a very busy Spring with work, then a quick trip to WDW, a couple deaths to deal with, but getting through and getting ready for this cruise!

Did I miss anything? :lmao: :lmao:
Hey Tracy:yay: :cool1:
Hope your family is doing ok:hug:

Sorry , but those are not in the least bit Piratey ( Is that a word ??.. well it is now ..LOL )

I just received this from Disney (PiratesOnline):

Did they sell the stamp on the Magic ?

:rotfl2: ..

fyi,i still have...the "missing in action" bracelet...from vietnam days..when
many of "our boys"..went mising. * the way it worked...one gave & received
a silver bracelt..with name, rank, & date..missing. then whenever he/she
as found..they were supposed..to notified you...:sad1: , i never heard...
someday..i like to find..the family..and send hem the bracelet...as a simple
gesture of thanks...for their great sacrfice.

You can find out online... My parents have 2 bracelets and look up every once in a while online if there's any new info on the people listed on the bracelets... They're still missing :(

Cheryl do you already have us?

I sent it out!!!!!::yes:: ::yes:: Now you will be moved out of Limbo!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

What a great idea Roger!!!:worship: :worship: This makes it so much easier to find things because I am blonde!!;)

Cheryl, I have a few shirts that I would like to do myself. I have my images saved on Photbucket, how do you "reverse" the image?

Sorry Debi...I was watching Deadliest Catch. :worship: When you go into print image....go into effects and check mirror image or destinations. Also look for paper usuage and use transfer paper and click on that too!! Just make sure iron is hot but not too hot!! The paper will burn but if not hot enough....image will not stick. Any more questions..pm me!!:thumbsup2

OK, great! I'll check with him to make sure he followed up! You know how men can be! ;)

thank you dear!

You two sound like John(mousehouseman) and me on the boards.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Sometimes this is our only way to talk to each other!!!:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Whew. Got the FE completed. They're, uh, a little different than what you usually see. I didn't go for a Disney theme. They started out as old curtains the color of the sand. The rest is dye / bleach work (no paint). Had fun making them, though there's things I'll do differently next time. I'm a lousy seamstress. :rotfl2:

Anyway, hope they give you some inspiration! If I, a lousy seamstress, can make these things so can you!! (Wonder Under fabric-to-fabric fusing is AWESOME stuff!)

this is what they'll look like with the names attached.

Thanks Mary Ann:thumbsup2 Here is the link Scavenger Hunt

Hey Roger,
Has your neck healed up ok ?

Thanks for asking, It has finally gone away after 6 weeks.

Is this an appropriate place for JR's "mediocre minds" comment?:lmao: :lmao:

I wasn't one of the ones commenting, so no, probably not. The rest of you are 'great minds' -- my mind, meanwhile is totally fried. I'm on the left coast this week (Bay Area) and my mind says it is 11PM but my workload says, 'finish your presentation for tomorrow, stupid'. So instead I am surfing the tubes as a compromise. I am neither in bed, nor working....
