Hi -

I'm back in L.A. & I've tried to ketchup - I'm becomiing adept at skimming!!

Anyway - I"ve requested 8/23 for the Wench's Brunch. DCL Inventory Contro will not notify me until the 30 day mark.

Is the PJ Breakfast & the Brunch that much of a conflict?? There will only be 14 of us at brunch - what time if the breakfast? We 14 might just have a cup of coffee and save our appetites for the brunch??!!

It was to dang hot to stay at the chocolate festival. I think we last 1 1/2 hrs. The kids had fun though - doing Chocolate challenges - putting your face in a bowl of whip cream and chocolate sauce and trying to find the hershey kiss.

Penny

now that sounds like a terrifice sea day activity

we ended up on a SW flight leaving at 11:40am. The combination you have was twice as much, otherwise I would have jumped on it.

Hello!

I'm back from dropping 2 of the girls off at the GS Santa Barbara Zoo sleepover... it was such a gorgous drive going and returning along the ocean today. It turned out really nice to because the Zoo leaders let me go into the zoo to shoot some photos of the girls.

And I'm happy to share that my both of my BILs are coming on the cruise. One of them had been considering canceling on account of his spouse being pregnant and in the 3rd trimester during our cruise. Well, since we had so much of the family gathered he was reluctant to quit - and never-the-less had been on the fence these past few weeks. So - tonite he settled on coming with us and that makes all of us that much more happy. His spouse will have to stay behind and her Mom will keep her company during her husbands absence. Pretty wild, eh?

Aside from that I'll put some pictures together in a bit... OK... here they are ... just a few from when I dropped the girls off...

Wonder if we get to keep the menus and is the Gift from Ducky for everybody?

We would just ask our server if we could take them. Sometimes he would ask us to wait until the next night because he still needed them for the 2nd seating. But then he'd have them for us then.

I actually am not against small tattoos. I just don't care for the ones that completely cover large parts which is what hers did. From her knee down it was solid tattoo. Plus she has several on her arms, back and who knows where else. To top it off, she's always complaining about never having any money. The tattoo on her leg is fairly new and I have no idea how much tattoos cost, but I bet it was not inexpensive.

Yes, it's an annual festival in Erie, Colorado. As you can see, that's just west of our house. They have several smaller festivals here in Colorado throughout the summer months.

We feel truly blessed to have the view we do. Nearly everyone who comes to our house comments on it. We just thought that if we're living in Colorado, might as well be able to see the Mountains everyday!

Better not let Todd here you talk like that

Monica. Thanks, but I was asking about the TEA. I gave my info to Chris - do I need to do anything.

DH and I are doing brunch on our own.

Same answer applies to tea. Book one on your own if it's a must do for you. Otherwise, if Chris succeeds in getting the group, then you're fine.

So, does Disney automatically cancel anyone who hasn't paid by 5/19? Is there any incentive for people to cancel before then, or can they just sit back and wait for thier deposits to be refunded? Does DCL give people second chances or contact them, or do they just cancel the reservations immediately?

Just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of how this works (I've fortunately never had to cancel a cruise).

Obviously there are people cancelling - right now I'm seeing categories 5,6,8,9,10 and 12. I'm a bit surprised to see 12's...

Wow, they were gone today from last night, but it looks like more have opened up!

Well people have until tonight to pay up, so this is not any automatic cancellation by DCL, and I presume if people haven't paid by midnight tonight, DCL would try to make contact direct or via TA.

This is people canceling, and whilst we saw this a bit in 2005, and I expected some, this is now far far higher than previous cruises, I think this reflects the current economic situation, the cruise of course is a cost, but then there are flights pre post hotel stays, transport costs the purchases for kids etc all mounts up when some people are in tight circumstances and have other priorities for their cash.

I think, the late cancellation in indicative of this situation people holding on to the very last minute and deciding if they can go and make it, and afford it or not.

So we are seeing lower Cats open up a lot, again, may reflect the economic situation, people booking higher Cats maybe more financially better off, to have confidence to book higher Cats and the cash for verandas etc, people on lower Cats have booked those, possibly because they stretched their budget to get on, ( some because they prefer it).

So in an economic downturn the lower Cats will cancel more, plus as this is a panama cruise, I think people might also prefer to try for an outside room.

This also might have a knock on effect to Palo and Shore trips, if people have streched their budgets to get on and stay on, thoose extra costs, will have to be budgeted for, so expensive Shore trips like the Mangroves, might have availability for longer, people might do more, on their own like Acapulco, and as Palo has gone up to $15pp, - not too much, but mounts up if you do all, people might cut back in this and Spa treatments, wil lbe interesting to see.

I didn't think about the lower categories cancelling more, but it makes sense now that you mention it. I do recall reading of at least one person (here or on the main forum) that is using the opportunity to upgrade (which would also free up lower cabins).

Also, I'm now a bit confused about the actual deadline.

According to the paperwork I saw, payment is due on May 19th - which I presume means they can still pay any time on May 19th up until midnight. A the same time, they say cancellation penalties start to apply on May 19th... So, does this mean that anyone who has not paid by today (May 18th) gets automatically cancelled and loses their deposit? That doesn't make much sense... Seems more likely that on midnight (EST?) on Monday 5/19 they would automatically cancel and issue refunds?

On another note, it is interesting (and cool) to see the wide variety of priorities people bring to the cruise. I always book the lowest category because history has shown that I spend very little time looking out of windows or sitting on verandas (I've sailed as high as category 4). Though, if they do upgrade us, we won't turn them down :-)

Yes the 19th is a confusing point, I would read it as ''paid by'' the same as reservations start at 00.01 19th, so PIF is by 00.01 19th.I would have thought, they wouldn't automatically cancel without a warning, not sure if they would have sent that out a day or so in advance, if you do not PIF, you loose your deposit and they can resell so they win on that so maybe a days grace.

On Staterooms, this is a different cruise and the highlight is panama day, we have just seen the benefits of a verandah again from the transit on Friday, from a good viewing points to protection from the sun, not having to sleep out all night to snag a viewing point to air conditioning, so whilst on standard cruises verandahs are less of a necessity and more of a luxury, they do come into there own on this one.
