Well, we finally talked to the school principals this past week about the TOAL and missing 8 1/2 days of school!![]()
Our two youngest attend an elementary school with a very strict principal. We really like her and the way she runs the school, but were nervous about what she'd say. She agreed that this really was a trip of a lifetime and that they would learn a lot from the cruise. She agreed to give them their math & vocab homework on August 1st for August 19th through August 29th. They can have it done before they leave. NOt sure what kind of homework my 1st grader will have as he hasn't really done much math yet except just knowing what the numbers are and he's quite bored with the kindergarten level work. Doesn't sound like there will be much make-up work when they get back. She did ask that they take lots of pictures and do a presentation to the class about their trip.
Our oldest is starting 7th grade and the school said he would know his math teacher for next year by the end of this year so we can get him started on his math in August as well. He will have some make-up work, but they said that was okay and were glad he was missing the first week and a half rather than later in the year.
Now we can really relax and enjoy the TOAL without thinking about work, school or anything else except enjoying ourselves and meeting lots of new people!!
It was silly but I was so stressed out about telling our principal that the kids would be missing the first week of school! After I told her, I just felt like this huge weight had been lifted off me. It was then that I really started to get excited. Of course, since we decided to come home on Sept. 2 now, the kids will be missing an extra day. I'll just let her know that this summer when I email her to remind her about our trip.
