Hi Everyone!

Sorry I've been missing again :rolleyes1

We survived the week of the huge birthday party! :dance3:

Darrah's 9th birthday was on May 1st (we went out to dinner for a small family celebration), I chaperoned a class field trip on the 2nd and then the insane birthday party was on the 3rd. I spent the last week or so cleaning the house and getting stuff ready for the party. (oh yeah - and working! :rotfl2: )

Up until the party started, we were expecting around 20 kids (why, why, why do so many parents not RSVP? - 7 kids told DS they were definitely coming, but their parents never called). The weather did NOT cooperate and it was around 50 degrees and drizzly at the start of the party. The rain did let up fairly soon and the kids didn't seem to notice the cold. We ended up with only 11 kids (3 that HAD RSVP'd didn't show and 6 of the kids that were "definitely coming" didn't show!)

It was a Pirate themed party - I'll post some pics later after I catch up. DS had the coolest cake!

I did hop online early last week planning to do a quick "ketchup", but when I found out the Bawb from the podcast had suddenly passed away, I ended up spending some time over on that board instead. :sad1:

When I was on princess we had bigger tenders, a different company

Andrew this is a tender from the ship to the dock. We were talking about a water taxi that transport you from place to place once on the dock.

CABO SAN LUCAS WATER TAXIS

To get from point A to point B in New York City people grab a cab. To get around London blokes take a ride on the Tube. In Venice the gondola is a fun way to see the sights, and in Chicago the local trains are a popular way to get around the Windy City. Cabo San Lucas has it's own modes of transportation for getting around, but none of them as much fun as the Water Taxis.

Althouh regular taxi cabs are still very popular for traveling the short and longer distances in Los Cabos, water taxis are a great way to make the shorter hops anywhere near the popular water areas. And just like the regular taxi cabs on the streets, water taxis can be hailed down with the wave of a hand.

The calm waters of Cabo San Lucas Bay are perfect for getting around by water taxi!

The popularity of water taxis is increasing each year in Cabo as more and more visitors become aware of them. And awareness is more than half of the learning curve here. Once visitors are aware of these fun ways to get around, they start using them more often. On a recent trip to Cabo San Lucas Carlos Fiesta used water taxis exclusively to get around to and from the best parts of Cabo.

Utilizing the water taxi system in Cabo does have one main prerequisite....you gotta be spending time near the water near the heart of Cabo. If you are hanging out at your hotel on El Medano Beach, spending time at the local watering holes on the beach, hanging out on a boat in the marina, or spending time in downtown Cabo, water taxis have your name on them. Yes, you could take a regular taxi for all of your transportation needs...but why?

Just a few examples where water taxis are more fun than a smelly cab:

* When traveling from the half dozen resorts on Playa Medano to downtown Cabo San Lucas.
* When traveling from the resorts on Playa Medano to Lover's Beach or the Arch (El Arco).
* When traveling from downtown Cabo San Lucas near the marina area to the hotels on Playa Medano.
* When traveling from downtown Cabo San Lucas near the marina to Lover's Beach or to El Arco.
* When traveling from a boat in the marina to El Medano Beach or Lover's Beach and the Arch.

Water taxis are usually less expensive than land-based taxis, and even cheaper if you are traveling in small groups.

As with any mode of transportation, it's a good idea to set an exact price on getting to the destination before getting into the boat.

These small pangas usually hold 6 to 10 people. Don't expect the captian of the boat to hand you a life preserver when you get on board. As the bumper sticker says..."get in, sit down, shut up and hold on".

So the next time you are hanging out at El Medano Beach sucking up 2 for 1 margaritas and somebody suggests heading to downtown Cabo for a snack, let a water taxi do the driving!

I will post this over on the planning board.

Roger originally posted this over on the Pirate Zone planning boards on this thread:

Does anyone know how about how many people the water taxi holds? I figure if we have enough interest to fill a water taxi and everyone onboard wanted to swing out past Los Arcos and Sea Lion rock, and then head over to the beach, the taxi pilot(?) would probably be happy to do it. And we can get our photo-op without wasting a big chunk of time right in the middle of the day doing the DCL excursion.

The water taxi's are no bigger than a row boat. We did have 6 of us in one, with our large scuba/snorkel bag...but it was tight.

Even this one is nicer than the one we had in Cabo.

Time for another round of the 7 question game...

1) What do you look forward to doing on our first day at SEA?
My favorite days are the sea days, so I will be just happy to have a free and relaxing day. Who knows, I might schedule our Palo brunch for the first sea day!

2) What have you signed up for (or are considering) among the various DIS diversions offerred here? IE, have you considered the Secret Mickey or Mickey Ice Cream Eating race?
I am thinking of doing the room tour, and the Secret Mickey. I might just sign up for myself, for if I had all my kids do it, we would need another suitcase! lol

3) Have you picked up your air fare yet? If so - when are ya coming into town?
I am so excited we have all of our air to LA and from Orlando all done, and for the cheapest I can get it to boot. We will be arriving in at LA on August 12!

4) Doing anything special or out of the ordinary for this sailing (anniversery - or ??? being marked)
My DD will be celebrating her birthday on embarkation day (how better of a birthday can you get!!??) and I will be celebrating my birthday on the 21st (how better of a birthday can you get?)

5) What movies have you seen lately (or last) in the theater?
Iron Man, and definitely going to see the new Narnia and Indy movies before the cruise!

6) What was the last song played on your MP3 player?... orthat you recall listening to last?
The Epcot Entrance Loop (2006) and the Soarin' line queue music. I am a huge park music junkie.

7) What would you propose for the 7th question here? And if you spot someone elses' reply on this - try answering it! IE, you answer the last person's reply here - and YOU put down a 7th question of your own. Please be diplomatic - and feel free to skip backwards to another persons' 7th question if you like that one more!
I didn't see the last person's 7th question, so I plead the 5th.

Hi Stace!
I have 6 in my group, and the past post said to determine a price before setting off. I never know what a good price is if I have not been there before, so what would a good price for 2A and 4 kids be? I don't want to get jipped.
Thanks!

Michelle the going price is from $3-5/pp but could be lower if you have group to fill the boat. Probably $15-20 would be fine for your group.

DSL will always show booked online. The only way to verify PIF is through your TA or by calling if you booked directly with DCL.

I use DU, so on their website it will say PIF, but you can call DCL, just for peace of mind.

Thanks Monica and Andrew. According to the TA we are PIF. So I guess I am OK. I guess I just thought some great big sign would show up on the site congratulating me for having paid off the TOAL. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Funny thing, when I logged off the site it asked if I wanted to complete a survey on the site. For what it is worth I went ahead and told them what I thought of the site and included the problems folks have had in the past trying to book Palo, etc.
