For those DIS neighbors who live in Southern California...

There is a free open house at JPL this saturday and sunday 9am to 5pm. See the link for info. We are going - but at the moment we are not sure which day or time we'll be there. We're leaning towards saturday ... and probably early so we might try for dim sum afterwards.... or maybe a lunch in Chinatown or Monterey Park.

If ya like - maybe we can hook up ... let us know when you're going.

Hope this benefits you...

I am pretty excited.

I have purchased my camera for the EB cruise.

It is a Nikon D40.

Here are a couple of samples as I have been playing with its features including its zoom.

Far, then zoom:

Pretty impressive, Mike. We just bought a new Canon PowerShot sx100IS with a 10x zoom feature and an Olympus 850 for the Jolly Pirate trip. We need to get a new video card then we can start playing around with them. DH took an incredible zoom shot from our livingroom of some deer at the bottom of the property. Soooo close. I love it....

So, I was telling DH about my momentary panic over this, then I realized that even if DS8 needed a car seat, I would just chance it. DH pipes up with, "I don't care if it is 85 degrees, you will wear your winter coat and my bullet proof vest and you will not complain." My response, "Bullet proof vest may come in handy in L.A."

:lmao: :lmao:
That's OK. My kids aren't gifted and I don't craft, so I've already been shunned.

We'll be in good company in the shunned section of the ship.

We're on SW too! Hopefully they won't add a charge for the second piece of luggage. On our first cruise, there were seven of us and the amount of luggage was embarassing. Here's a picture of it at Orlando International BEFORE the cruise!!

Bottoms up!!!:lmao:

that's a lotta luggage.

Hello Everyone,

I finally just finished my fish extender. I didn't sew it and hope it will hold up. May not be completly straight........:lmao: but I like it. I put red sparkle discs on the nose.

I have a mildly interesting story to share...

Today I went to my Dentist to get a filling fixed that fell out a couple of days ago. He's pretty good - and when he came in he paused to chat with me a bit as usual. So - when asked whats' up with me - I told him we were looking forward to sailing a couple weeks from LA to FLorida. He then asked - if we were transiting the panama canal... I said yes and that we had a group of about 26 going plus a larger group of several hundred Disney Cruise enthusiasts on hand too. He replied that we were very lucky to be doing the trip... he had not taken a vacation that long in too many years.

I believe he was waxing candid... as he went on to share that a woman he had been chatting with today (or yesterday) spoke of how they had wished they had done more fun travel because she had brain cancer. When they found the cancer it had grown to a large size and had crushed the optic nerve causing near blindness in one eye... so she was now considered legally blind. He went on to chat with a note suggesting he needed to slow down and do some fun travel with family and friends.

I then replied we had family and friends in part because we were spending time with loved ones who might be chronicly ill... and so this was in part a plan to achieve maximum quality family time together ... and that we had friends who were fighting bad cancer problems. One friend in particular had renal cancer that had spread to develope into a brain tumor that had to be removed recently. Now her medication was a "for life" thing and cost the health insurance company $8,000 a month! He responded with naturally sober astonishment.

I added that I now look on the times we have as usually precious. Silly how we spend this time too sometimes... but I do pay special attention to nurturing good times while allowing annoying moments to wash over and out of me... for example ... when I recently got another traffic ticket (I tell you - our fiscally bankrupt California government has directed the police to crank up the pressure on writing lots of tickets!)... as I wuz saying... when I got a ticket I took it... sinserely thanked the officer for doing his job to protect us from everything bad ... and I drove off without a real care as to what this was going to cost. And yeah... it is annoying.... but I'm doing a real good job of telling myself ... "so what?".

happiness_formula.gif

At any rate, the moral of this story... a) we are indeed lucky to do such an extraordinary trip... it IS going to be a truly memorable and special thing, b) Life is indeed too short NOT to do things like this ... which is a great reason to have this sort of "fun", and c) in all other respects ... travel aside .... we should all do what we can to relax more on the things that threaten our sanity... while developing more time to wax romantic on things worth living for and enjoying in life. No matter WHAT that might be. SO ... with that in mind I am going to go get me some creamed spinich because I have a craving fer it! And it's gonna put a smile on my face as my tummy humms with pleasure!

SO.... when I stepped out of the Dentists' office there was an elderly lady standing in front of my car - I asked if she needed a lift. SHe said she was waiting for a cab. I asked if she had just seen my Dentist - and she said yes. I told her I had just finished too and that I would be happy to give her a lift almost anywhere she needed to go. So after a little more chit chat she accepted. On the drive over we talked about how we found our dentist and how he came highly recommended to me. Than as we parted we parked and just talked for a spell. It turns out she was nearly 90 but did not really look a day over 70 to me. She really liked that remark - and it was the truth. I was glad to have saved her cab fare and shared pleasant conversation with her.

your coolness continues to amaze me.

hhhmmmm, so it sounds like the monkeys are really small. guess we'll have to add about 10 to the skinnies on the zip lines. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My youngest has been worrying that she won't be heavy enough to make it to the next line -- now that I realize we can just cover her in squirrel monkeys I will tell her not to worry -- what a photo op! If we just smear her with peanut butter or something it seems as though those hungry monkeys will gladly tag along . . .

does Linda know about this "thing" ?

I was worried about his description of a "thing" with the monkeys as well . . .:rotfl2:

Slippery Emu catching contest anyone?

OK -- you bring the emu and we're on . . . will the emu count as a second checked piece of baggage? Which carrier are you on and are you grandfathered to checked a second emu without charge???????

You know when they first contacted me I was quite honored but boy, laugh was on me when they messed up and called it Coral Princess instead of the correct name Princess Coral. :rotfl2:

This is embarrassing. My mom had to tell me how they get the emu oil for me to slather on my scarred face. Goodness knows what I was thinking.
Of course, I am also the same person who thought the cows went to live on other ranches when the big truck came to our ranch to get them.:sad2:
My Mom says I do not get out enough. :)

Princess Coral! That's so cool, you even have a Disney name for princess night. Wasn't Coral one or Ariel's sisters?

OK, I've heard of parents telling kids that the family dog went to live on a farm...but the family cows...moving to another ranch???

When we were young we went dancin' all the time...

... it wuz fun ta dance to New Wave, Punk and the mainstream stuff...

Above was 2 valentines days back on an 8 nite Carnival Cruise to Mexico

Fun,... an' we don't do enuf of that kind of stuff I tell ya'...

Great pics Crash. Our first DCL, DS7 was almost 4. He was soooooo excited about the family dance party. That and meeting Cinderella were the highlights of the cruise for him.

Hey i like it.... Looks much better than my pile o' fabric sitting in a bag next to my bed upstairs.....

Well Pirates... I didn't think i could do it... but

i cancelled my dd's plane ticket to CA..... (i did apply it to purchase 2 tickets home for dh and i though; before the new baggage fees go into effect)

I'm still sad though a little that she's not going...

Of course what's worse...going and being a little sad or taking her with and chancing that i'll tear my hair out the whole time....:headache:

We pretty much won't see her all summer as she's going to GS camp for a month in July. (we'll only see her on Saturday nights)

 I know that was hard. It was going to be hard no matter which decision you made. Maybe a summer of (highly supervised) independence will do her good. I've done my share of summer camp jobs and I swear I've seen kids mature overnight.

Oh, and you're way ahead of me - I don't even have a pile of fabric.
DH has grand plans for our FE.

Think we should switch at dinner some night? Maybe they'll appreciate what they've got... Or maybe not.

Probably wouldn't matter - we have the same rules!

The squeeky emu get the oil??

:rotfl2: Well then it's a good thing we have some!

Is this a drinking game ?

Bartender! Slippery Emu shots all around!

So Laurie you will be entertaining the monkeys while we are zipping, right. :lmao: I hear they have a tarantula that will crawl on your face too. Oh and don't forget about the snake.

Laurie, don't let Roger mock you like this . . . we should be there at the same time since we zip earlier . . . I'll meet and greet the tarantula with you and we can take lots of pictures . . . then we can annoy the tarantula before Roger comes back from zipping . . .:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm sorry that you had to make the decision, but the fact that you did come to do it proves that it must be the right thing . . . I remember Monica going through this before the Med repo last year and I'm sure she could confirm that Trevoy now knows that his behavior can have consequences since he didn't end up on that repo. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I am a complete believer in this . . . I read recently that studies have shown that, given spending the same amount of money, spending it on "experiences" rather than "things" makes us more content and happy -- presumably because we generally share experiences with other people and things are enjoyed more privately.

As I look at this graphic after posting, I realize I probably should have posted some kind of warning for epileptics -- I didn't really appreciate the strobe-like quality until I posted it and realized how annoying it is! My apologies.

Maybe that's why I am not zipping.:rolleyes1 It would be my luck to have "that thing" find me somehow.:rotfl2:

We went to NHL All-Star game in St. Paul, MN in 2004. BNL were the opening act and did an intermission show. After the AS game, they had a private party inside this giant ICE castle built outside of the Wild's arena. You couldn't buy the tickets, it was invitation only. We were walking out of the arena and a young couple with a European accent offered their tickets to us. Temperature in the teens...snowstorm going on....Free Cider w/Rum and Irish Coffees....and BNL...Great concert!

i_p1.gif

How lucky for you!!!!!

That ice castle is beautiful too! That must have been a wonderful evening!

We wouldn't annoy it for you, Tina!;)

Thanks Julie but that still wouldn't prevent me having a heart attack though.:rotfl2: The thought of flying through the air just doesn't sound good to me.
