Does anyone have any information on what would be a good way to spend one day in NYC with two children age 13DD and 11DS?

We will be in the city next Tuesday for just one day and there is so much to choose from I came here to get some advice.

We have been to the Museum or Natural History a couple of time and the Metropolitan Museum of Art a couple of times. We have also gone into Central Park during a weekend day just to enjoy the stroll and various entertainers that are there on the weekends. This being a weekday may not have that

We were thinking of Madam Tussauds but not sure how that is
We may also go to TKTS to see what plays are available for that evening
Anyone have any info on how to get discount tickets to Wicked? I know those are not available at TKTS

Any suggestions would be very welcomed

Thanks

Depending on level of interest for history, you can do the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Thanks for the update Wendy....
WOW ALmost 50 pirate: 's at Hojo's alone.... Will the buses be able to hold that much luggage?

Whoohoo! Going to be a fun ride to port!!!

good evening everyone...
today was just a crappy day...and i need to vent! actually it's been a bad weekend! on friday, a group of my ds's friends who are only 9 yrs old, decided to bike ride down our huge steep hill outback. (ds was not involved, cuz i don't let him ride around town on his own yet.) these friends were given free roam to go wherever they wanted...and they decided to thrill ride down the huge hill. dh and i hate to see the kids do this, cuz we live at an intersection...when the kids go down, they can't stop, and they go flying thru the intersection. when i happened to catch them do this on friday, i looked just in time to see my good friends ds come to a screeching halt as a car slammed on its brakes only feet away from him. needless to say, i was very shaken to see one of my ds friends almost get hit by a car! i yelled to the boys that i needed to talk to them, and told them how dangerous it was...they all know that....they've seen us yell at others who come down the hill. i called the dad who was supposed to be keeping an eye on these boys...and asked him if he had any idea where the kids were...and he didn't! just said they were out riding bikes thru town! they are only 9...and they all just turned 9 within the last 3-5 months. (i felt horrible for my friend cuz she left her ds with the other dad cuz she had to go out of town..so, she had no clue about this and it was her kid that almost got hit!) the dad has said that i am overreacting...boys will be boys....gotta let them learn responsibility..etc. he's still ticked at me now! but i really don't care! i guess that he thinks if a kid gets hit by a car, that teaches him something....ugh! the dad and mom have been badmouthing me to others all weekend cuz i yelled at the kids for coming down the steep hill. grr! it ticks me off so much!
so, then today, we had to go to the little league field to watch oldest ds play baseball...and while there, i took my youngest to the playground. the ice cream truck came thru and even though i was right there with him, my 5 yr old darted for the truck! he ended up in the road before i could catch him....and i freaked! my dd saw that ds was running for the truck,(and she thought i was too, cuz i was chasing ds)....so she decided that she should run to the truck too. so, not only did my 5yr old run into the road while i was watching...my 8yr old dd did too! thank goodness there were no cars coming, but i cringe when i think of what might have been. just really frustrates me, cuz i am constantly on my kids about street safety! on friday i watch as kids were given the ok to roam the roads on bikes, and on sunday, i watch my own kids run right into the road! after my own did that, i had a bit of a meltdown...came home, went onto my porch, and had a good cry! i know you can't always have control of your kids...but man...today was just too frightening for me. made me realize i need to hug my dk's a bit tighter, cuz you never know....

Now if something "did" happen and you "didn't" do anything the dad would be angry!

I think I would do exactly the same..someone needs to be responsible!
good job!

Everyone please check your Vent Dryer!!!
...
Sooooo everyone please make sure your vent is clean!!! We were very fortunate that the house did not go up in smoke!!!:worship: :worship:

Glad nothing too serious happened!

Happy Patriots Day!!!
Off to the neighbors for a Patriots Day Brunch & to watch the Red Sox! Any reason to have a party around here!

We can always come up with a reason to par-tay! Go Sox!!!:cheer2:

And make sure you have working smoke detectors in your house! I have been on a number of fatal fires where there were no smoke detectors or ones that didn't work, one where the smoke detectors were in the box on a shelf in the garage!

I thought I would post this in case it applies to anyone.
Budget offers spouse driver for free. I booked but realized I have no intention of driving the behemuth to DTD after the cruise. I called to add USAA code but did not need to because they offer spouse for free.
They also have a small discount if you book through USAA as well.

Every single car I have ever had has been in a wreck w/ me in it. :sad2:

Ummmm, are you gonna be on the party bus, Coral????

Seriously, scary story.
Have I mentioned that I almost ran over a dog during my driving trest when I was 16. Examiner took of 5 points for a "sudden stop". I guess I was supposed to just run over Fido.

Everyone please check your Vent Dryer!!!

That's some scary stuff, Cheryl. I'm glad you caught it in time.
We had to clean out the vent in our AK house - the place was only 5 years old. That lint can build up fast!

I usually can't find anyone who can beat Budget+USAA. Their Fastbreak (or whatever it is called ) is great too. It is free to sign up & you don't have to wait in line to pick up your car. Budget always seems to have the longest lines.

My ds12 is a Leo. He will be 13 on July 27th.

Here's a funny story about my dh's birthday......On our last cruise there were 3 other families we really had a lot in common with, and ended up spending almost the whole cruise hanging out with all of them, including excursions. Well my husband and 2 of the other husband's birthdays all fell on the same day, July 16th. And the fourth husband....when was his birthday? July 15th! We all thought that was such a strange coincidence!

What a coincidence:lmao: , Sounds like it was destiny

Anyone have any suggestions on great shopping for a teenager daughter? I personally really dislike shopping but she would love it. She is very into fashion, but high fashion is not in my budget

Any suggestions would be very welcomed

We had fun going through China Town shopping, we walked over from the WTC and had a nice lunch in little Italy. Taken the Circle Line boat ride twice, rode the subway to a Yankee game. The top of Rockerfeller Plaza was very pretty at night. Rode one of the horse drawn carraiges through CP and shopped at the World of Disney.:goodvibes

I was hit by a car as well on my bike- but it was my fault.
I was 8 and I turned into the street at a bad angle and slid under a Drivers Ed car. Just ran over the bike but the poor driver was so upset. He thought he killed me. I got up and ran home and hid in my closet because I knew it was my fault. Sure enough drivers ed teacher runs to my house to see how I was and of course, I get in trouble by my mom since it was my fault and I scared them to death.
Fast forward 6 years and I was in drivers ed with the same teacher and a car full of kids. I was driving and a kid was on his bike very close. The teacher says "Be careful, one time there was a boy driving for the 1st time and a kid on a bike ran into us". I didn't say a word and then he says real loud "Hey blondie! That was you!!". I was soooo embarrassed. Of course everyone laughed at me. :rotfl2:
BTW- in NM at the time you could get your license at 15 and since I lived on a ranch, I got mine at 14. Of course, I had been driving since I was 5 on the ranch. You would think I would be a better driver. Every single car I have ever had has been in a wreck w/ me in it. :sad2:

Coral, what are the odds of that happening :lmao: That reminds me that about 8 years ago, I hit someone on a bike. Flipped him right over the hood of my car---scared me to death, luckily he wasn't injured, but he wouldn't let me call the police. I told every police officer I knew (and I know alot) that I had hit someone. They said he probably had warrants on him is why he didn't want them called, but for weeks I kept expecting a knock on my door to haul me off to jail.

Tom, your story of getting hit on your bike--------------you were so lucky not to have been killed.

I usually find that Alamo and using an Entertainment coupon is the cheapest. It is amazing how different the rates are at different companies and cities.

Just a quick post before I catch up from the weekend.

Thanks for all the prayers and pixie dust for Lisa at her meet. She did wonderful. She ended up winning the Floor and placing 4th overall. They take the top seven to Nationals,so both she and her friend Bugs (who placed #2) on on the Region 8 Team. They were two very happy little girls!

Keep in mind that birds will nest in dryer vents too (they can open the flap on their own)

Our last townhouse had a second story laundry room. The house was vacant for a couple months before we moved in and we didn't do laundry the first week or so. Well after my dryer also didn't dry we looked at the pipe and it was solidly filled with bird nest. (and birdy i may add)

The landlord replaced the vent cover with a caged one...But guess what..they cage part caught lint and clogged up every 6 weeks or so too...

What a PIA to have to move the dryer every few weeks to clean it out.

I have mainly had problems with GE dryers (they sooooo do not catch the lint.) Even on my brand new dryer....Most of the lint goes past the screen and jams in the bottom of the dryer.

I did rig a sucky tube device for my vacuum though that can reach.

Ok so it's a little pricey to rent a car in Long Beach and then drop off two days later in Anaheim..... (almost $200)

OK tried another plan... a taxi ride from Long Beach to Anaheim should be around $40... I can rent from Alamo in Downtown Disney and then return to same location 2 days later for only $60....(not per day...the whole period)

So i guess we'll be taxi-ing to Anaheim to rent our car and save over $50.

We had a couple of volunteers (sk8ingmom and pdarrah) to do the navigator. The drinking, I mean fish extender committee (way too many to list) will collect names/rooms for that .....

It will all come together.

Help is always welcome.

The reason I ask is that I am a Spread Sheep type A person and I would be happy to volunteer to do work that I can do at 4am while in bed with my computer...(get your minds out of the gutter everyone!) I am very handy at that, not so much at things that require making phone calls etc. Yanno?

That's frustrating. I've had to be stern more than once with my daughters, but think I'm getting through when my DDs are actually telling me what other kids are doing incorrectly. On Saturday, we were at a stop light on a 4 lane road. Two boys on bikes decided to try and cross in front of us and another car sitting to our right just as the light turned green for us. I thought for sure that those boys were in a blind spot for the car on our right because of our van blocking her view. Fortunately, she didn't just hit the gas and go...she paused enough to see them. I didn't make a comment, but my DD9 made two observations about the boys crossing the street with a red light to them and that neither had helmets. :)

As of June 20 I no longer have a job.

Everyone is in luck...except for the people on the shuttle from the DT to the port. Actually since I am not driving- everyone is safe. :lmao:

I was surprised to see that they did not show a Fastbreak location at PC, only the one at MCO. :confused3

Oh Monica! How much more can you take? I am so sorry but on the bright side- it does leave you a little bit of time to find another, better job.
Hang in there!
