WOOO HOOO....just made a rather large payment on the balance due for the cruise...so it looks like we are actually going !!!! I wasn't completely convinced we'd make it , but looks like we are a go!

I know I haven't posted much, but I have been lurking... To keep it on topic...does anyone know what the recommended tips are for the cruise?

Well done,

For cruise tips use this:-

http://cruisetip.tpkeller.com/

For my family of 4, the basic total tip is $654, before any changes, $220.80 Dinning room server, $160.80 Assistent DRS, $55.80 HEAD server, And $216.60 Stateroom host.

When Adam took his driving lessons, the instructor said that he wished our court had sidewalks (I think we are the only court that doesn't as we have only 4 houses) He said that he really tries to get the kids to make sure they have 2 stops to make while backing up, once at the sidewalk and then again at the driveway. I am sure that father was horrified at watching his child struck by a car. Sidewalks can be just as dangerous as the road for our children.

I think there are 2 different families that have bought their kids those low sitting go carts. I don't know what they were thinking! The kids fly up and down the road and they are so hard to see.
we've seen kids go down our hill on those gokarts too....scarier than even the bikes! i almost hit one myself while backing out of my gargage!! they were laying down flat on it, and i almost got them!
i want to say thanks to everyone that responded too....makes me feel better that i wasn't in the wrong to speak up!

Everyone please check your Vent Dryer!!!
scary! glad it's all fixed...and thanks for the reminder to check it.

And make sure you have working smoke detectors in your house! I have been on a number of fatal fires where there were no smoke detectors or ones that didn't work, one where the smoke detectors were in the box on a shelf in the garage!
fires at home are one of my worst ever fears!! i cringe thinking of places without working detectors.
As of June 20 I no longer have a job.
Not sure about TOAL.
Not sure about anything.

Well done on being so organised Tina.

Has anyone tried to put things in on their 'wish list' on the DCL site since the change to scuba Mickey? I keep bouncing back out to a 404 internal server error.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one struggling. I've tried a few times & failed miserably. Trying to add my parents things to the wish list, I'd already done ours. I even set up my parents their own account incase it was struggling because it was my account pulling up their ressie, but alas still an error! Will try later as I see some others have now got cabin# so wonder if I have too. carrying on with the ketchup - only 15 pages to go!

I have an enquiry out to DCL on this.

The ice rink used to be indoor/outdoor (just a roof),

That's how the Ice rink in Squaw Valley is (@ the Olympic Village). Dh went to Hockey camp there as a kid (he grew up in LA playing hockey) and when we were in Tahoe on a trip (July about 11 yrs ago) we took the kids Ice Skating there so that they could skate where their dad did as a kid. ;) Of course it was cool that it was an *Olympic Village* too!

You are sooooooo lucky! Only having to drive 7/8 hours to WDW or DCL is the bomb!!! I would drive everytime if I lived that close!

I was thinking the same thing! And we would go a couple of times a year --- I checked with Mapquest and from my house to Orlando is a little over 17hrs..... If it was 12hrs or less I could so talk Jon into driving and going more often! LOL! 5 airline tickets are not cheap! LOL!

Brendan and I rented a car for the week...we are still doing the pirate party bus...I will offer to anyone if you need something last minute and we can get it for you let us know! (especially for the Hojo crew!)

I have a driver's ed story! At the end of my last lesson the instructed said to me "YOU will NEVER get your license!"...Well 1 month later I drove by him in my new car! So there! PLttths!

Everyone please check your Vent Dryer!!!

For the last few weeks John and I have been noticing our brand new clothes dryer was not working properly. Our dryer is in the laundry room in the lower level of our house. The vent to our dryer goes accross our entire laundry room and our recreation room. Total is about 25 feet wth the pipe running through our ceiling and enclosed in the inside wall of our laundry room. Even though in 36 years of living here...........I have always cleaned out the dryer in the vent.

The last two weekends we bought a brush and started to see if there was lint in the sheet metal pipe. This is not an easy task as it is 25 feet acroos and has two 90 degree angles coming off the dryer in the wall. We had been getting some lint out and thought that was it.

Saturday I washed clothes and the clothes were not dry after 2 hours. We went out to some charity function and started drying the clothes again Saturday night. In about 15 minutes, I came down stairs and told John I could smell something burning. The dryer was extremely hot!!! We shut it off for the night.

Sunday morning...John being very mechanically inclined.....took a wire to fish out any lint. He managed to go from the outside through the pipe in our ceiling and into the laundry room. He then attached a brush to it to pull out the lint. Well...................Out came 25 feet of the pipe into our back yard. The brush got stuck and the entire straight pie came out. There was at least 8 feet of solid lint in the pipe.
After several wholes in our laundry room wall and ceiling, we fianally managed to put the pipe on the 90 angles. All is well but a few more holes to patch in hte laundry room ceiling a walls.

Sooooo everyone please make sure your vent is clean!!! We were very fortunate that the house did not go up in smoke!!!:worship: :worship:

:scared1: :scared1: Here it is part of the city code that a dryer vent has to vent straight and outside -- I think we are going to have to redo the one at our other house to meet code. I know this has only been in effect less then 17yrs (how old our house is) and I know that you are like us and have had your house forever!

I am so GLAD that y'all are ok!!!!

Okay, what is up with us Leos? We all seem to get married right around our birthdays. Wierd!!!

You know I was just thinking that and noticing it - it must be because we want to be SPECIAL the whole month - after all - we do :lovestruc the limelight! :rotfl2:

How is Rory the Tiger, nowadays???

Didnt think you were a 'Sun' type of reader, ( or are they called viewers?)

I'm not sure you can say you "read" the Sun! However, as DH works in transport it is apparently required reading - LOL! As our other paper is the Sunday Times (which takes me all week to read) I quite like the light relief of the sun!!! 9 years ago when I was pregnant we, i.e. me & DH were in the Sun as DD was the youngest registered Reading fan (v. long story) & they kindly announced we were expecting a boy even tho' we didn't actually know - so we are living proof of the accuracy of their stories!

As for Rory - nothing changes, at least since we last saw him 4 years ago. I'd forgotton tat "we're having fun in the tiger club" is as annoyingly infectious as "it's a small world"!

Interesting you were in the sun, glad it wasn't page three, I did Haven long time ago, it was in Cornwall somewhere, (St Austell.
?)the park was ok, the food, ok, the location was good, and Accommodation again ok, Kids Liked Rory in those days, but we never went back.

Keep in mind that birds will nest in dryer vents too (they can open the flap on their own)

DH has a really disgusting large black bird story that has to do with a dryer vent...... about 5 yrs ago he pulled out the dryer to clean in the vent for me..... he reached his hand into it....and pulled out a large, dead, bird out!!! I started screaming (I usually cleaned out the tubing with a vaccum cleaner). After throwing it away he had to take a shower to get that dead bird feelign off of him.....

He had pulled out nests from the outside vent before but, after that he put screening up over the hole to keep the birds OUT!

Cleaning out the dryer vent is good advice for everyone. My neighbor's house burned to the ground because of this. The dryer ran for hours because the dryer vent was so clogged that the clothes weren't getting dry. I am happy to hear you caught this before you lost everything!

Hope things improve & maybe this will cheer you up - it's a quote that was on the wall at our gym today:
"If you're feeling stressed, put on the kettle & make a cup of tea & drop it in the lap of the person stressing you". I pointed out that would mean child protection would be paying frequent visits to my house!

Very cool opportunity for your DH - wow, an LA hockey kid!
One of my old coaches (Carol Heiss) won gold at that rink.
Lake Arrowhead, CA also has an open-sided rink. The rink at the Olympic training center there is also freaky - no boards and mirrrors along one side of the ice, like a dance studio. It is really odd & disorienting at first - figure skaters aren't used to seeing themselves like that!
