61 currently here in Sunny Longwood. (Just north of Orlando):goodvibes
High of 80

Lots of food shopping today. Saw DS last night for dinner and he has lost around 25 lbs so far and is looking good. I'm glad for him. He really needed some motivation to take off the weight. I will try to get to the gym today as well. :thumbsup2

Just needs a tall-ship or two in the harbor!!

Too funny....I was talking to my boss and a co-worker this week and he was asking me when my cruise was this summer. He had forgotten that we were going through the Panama canal. He said so you're going to start in LA, visit Disneyland and cruise for 15 nights and end up in Florida. He asked if I was going to DisneyWorld. When I told him not this time, he said, "Whew...for a minute there we thought you were a Disney fanatic".

That is funny! I am lucky that my boss is a Disney lover as well.
Our company is changing a lot in mid-Sept and I am probably getting a new manager which bums me out. I have had her as a manager for over 13 years.

There’s always one in the bunch.
One teacher will not allow him to make up any missed work or the exam. She insisted that I should not allow him to attend the trip. She informed me that the days would be marked unexcused.
She said this isn’t a school rule, but a state/city rule that has been in place for the last 30 years and applies to both public and Catholic schools. (Tyreak attends a Catholic school)
I wonder how she feels about the track team missing two days next week to attend the Penn Relays?

Right. Someone is defintely short-sighted. Isn't she proud she had a part in him going to college?
:confused3

Hey everybody - may be a day late but looks like DCL has assigned us a room - no more guarantee for us. Bad News? No upgrade - we are stuck on lowly deck 2 YET AGAIN - in a Cat 9 - oh well, at least I'm on here. And hopefully - DCL gets the notice for the 5-day and we get to stay in the same cabin this way we only have to disembark our bodies and not our luggage. We shall see.

OK - gotta get to bed - its late and I haven't been up this late since before I quit drinking caffeine! :scared1:

At least you will be in very good company! :)

Apparently we have a priest on our cruise. He's taking a poll asking who would be interested in Mass or a non-denominational service onboard.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1795834

That is very nice.

He is a member of our group and posts here from time to time.

I remember you mentioning that before.

Yeah, DC has been more messed up than usual for the last 3 days too.
DH's office is a few block from Nationals stadium & he was allowed to work from home yesterday due to the Papal Mass.

Is anyone tailgating yet??

My kids were wondering where all the people at the stadium were going to go for doughnuts after Mass.

He's at Yankee stadium on Sunday, but I don't think tailgating would be allowed :rotfl: really, it's almost impossible even to park there so everyone usually just takes the subway, which lets you out right there. There's no one waiting around our barricades, but of course he doesn't get to St. Joseph's until 6 PM. He should be at the UN (also pretty close to here) later this morning. He's staying on the same block with some friends of mine and the security there is crazy . . . it's going to require photo ID to come and go from her apartment.Tomorrow he has a mass at St. Patricks and then will ride the "popemobile" on Fifth to 72nd St, so I'm sure quite a few people will show for that. We will definitely see his car -- he has to go right by our building to get to St. Joseph's -- but I don't think he's "popemobiling" it today so probably won't see him.

Our corner liquor store is running a special today : 15% off all wines with "Saint" in the name, and also 15% of all German wines . . . Bagel Bob's on York also has a huge sign out welcoming the pope . . . I'm sure he'll decide to stop for a bagel and lox:lmao:

We're doing okay in Schaumburg.:thumbsup2 Just a few things rattled on the nite stand and shelves. Thanks for asking Tom.

Was that quake related to the New Madrid fault?

Hope everyone in Illinois and Kentucky is safe and sound from the early morning earthquakes.

I am in the Milwaukee area and I am certain that I was awake because I looked at the clock at 4:34am and turned my computer on. They say it was at 4:37. I didn't feel anything!!! :(

The funny thing is that all these people are calling in to the local news station and saying how there was crashing in their house and shaking and/or rolling beds. RIGHT!!!!! :confused3

Glad you are OK. As far as the stories about shaking that far away for a 5.4 is wishful thinking. Don't get me wrong a 5.4 is a moderate earthquake but not nearly strong enough to cause anything that far away. Hope that Paula and others are OK.

Good Morning!! It is a glorious day here. Temps going into the mid/high 70's. Already put a load of laundry on the line to dry and am going to pick up two of my day care kids to feed the ducks before I go to hospital for my zapping.

I didn't remember the name or sig.
I guess I should have also mentioned that one post into the thread and there is already snarkiness.

I saw that, M. On the DIS, no good deed goes unpunished

We went to the Celebration all you can eat pie event two years ago. The kids LOVED it and ate LOTS of pie. Lisa's Gymnastic Regionals were on this weekend the past two years. We head to Huntsville AL on Saturday for her meet Sunday morning. This meet determines which Level 10 girls can advance on to Nationals in May. Please say prayers and pixie dust for her on Sunday at 8am that she competes at the level she is capable of.

Best of luck to Lisa pixiedust:

So here is something…
I just got off the phone and I’m going to be published.

Good for you...CONGRATS!!!

There’s always one in the bunch.

Well, that stinks. Seems like something so positive would be considered an excused absence.

We're doing okay in Schaumburg.:thumbsup2 Just a few things rattled on the nite stand and shelves. Thanks for asking Tom.

Glad you guys are OK. I thought of you all this morning when I heard it on the news.

The Pope will be delivering mass at a church one block from our apartment today at 6 PM . . . there are already police barricades and equipment all around the area and our block is one of the many which will be blocked off today. Security is very, very high. It's going to be an interesting evening, that is for sure!

I heard about the big taxi fire there yesterday

Hey folks, our "ticket lady" is here today. Our company gets discounts on various attractions in CA. I grabbed a few prices that some of you may be interested in.

That is so nice of you, Monica

We felt it here in Ohio. I woke up, but didn't know what woke me up, so I went back to sleep.:lmao: There was a picture on the floor in the family room, but not sure if it was the earthquake or the cats.

Stopped at Dollar Tree last night. No POC sunscreen, but did find some Panama Jack spray on that is SPF 30.

TGIF:yay: :woohoo: It has been a long week.

We had a small quake here in Fl last year? I And we had one on L.I. in 86. Both times it felt like a slight vibration . I noticed the one here at work as my bobblehead on my computer at the time started shaking. The one in NY the house felt like it did when the house was being built next door and the bulldozers were moving around. It was the fact that the antenna we had on the tv in the bedroom started banging on the window that woke me up. Otherwise I never would have felt it.

I know, that is why I think it is so funny.

We are over 300 miles away...I guess you ever know...But I really really doubt it!

Have a great day everyone, off to work now!

There’s always one in the bunch.

That is really too bad. I would talk to the principal.

The Pope will be delivering mass at a church one block from our apartment today at 6 PM . . .

I wasn't clear from your other replies, are you planning on attending?

Okay...I'm not crazy (yet)....but I was in our parish Chapel for Eucharistic Adoration this morning from 5-6am. I felt this all the way in Ohio! My pew was shaking, and the candles on the altar were as well. I came home and asked my husband if he felt a tremor, and that's when he informed me it had actually occurred. While in the Chapel, I questioned whether or not "He" was trying to tell me something!

Its a different type of fault system and much flatter land, so there's no mountains or hills to absorb the shock like in California. Supposedly the threat from a major earthquake on the New Madrid fault is considered to be significant, could cut off all east-west commerce (e.g. No Coors east of Mississippi River)

People were calling in to our radio stations here in Detorit. I slept through it.

GMA showed a part of Louisville where bricks had fallen off of a building, but nothing really serious.

I've been to 3 DT's and no spray sunscreen. I asked last night and they looked at me like I was crazy!

Gotta love the New Madrid fault.

Tom, Is there anything you don't know? It is interesting to have an earthquake anywhere near us, I think I heard the last one was in 1968...

I'm amazed.....there are so many "smarties" on this cruise. Makes me feel safe because if we end up marooned on a deserted island, we will have a coconut radio in no time!

I heard about the big taxi fire there yesterday

That was crazy -- of course everyone thought it was some kind of terrorist thing related to the pope -- although he wasn't there yet:confused3 and there were probably 100 police cars with flashing lights around . . .just turned out the taxi was a victim of improper vehicle maintenence :rotfl:

I wasn't clear from your other replies, are you planning on attending?

I would love to attend, but no such luck . . . for one I am Episcopal rather than Catholic and you had to apply through your parish and get awarded tickets based on ATTENDANCE (as reported on the news!) to go to the mass at Yankee Stadium . . . the thing a block from us this evening is a service for religious leaders of all kinds, invitation only, and I definitely don't qualify there, and the mass at St Pat's tomorrow is for area religious (priests, nuns, etc.) . . .

I read an article about the big New Madrid quake (late 1800s?) once and the fact I remember is that it made the Mississippi River run backward for a while . . . pretty powerful.

I could definitely live without Coors:laughing: but in general a big quake there again with the population density we have now would be devastating.

Okay, Deanna, confession time for me...

I thought you were a Bucky fan for the longest time. Not Buck EYE.

I was excited to have another Badger on the trip...oops!
You are probably not a Badger fan at all...

No, with this group, more like some coconut bras and lots of tropical drink concoctions. But no boat.
