Thank you all for the well wishes. Everything went well. Much better than I expected. I am currently coming down off the Valium/Vicodin and waiting for the Lidocaine to wear off. The microwaving did not really hurt it was the 20-30 injections to numb the area. I have to take it easy for the next couple of weeks (no biking) :sad1: but I am up walking around right now. I have another couple of hours before I get to take my next meds if I need them. I will post before and after pictures after everything is healed.

Roger, glad everything went well.

Glad to hear things went well!

My DS16 has got sooooo many of these offers in the past few months. It was right after he took some big test (PLAN test?).

We were excited to get them, but noting the cost etc, it seemed like a nice idea to get kids involved, but most likely, just a regular old summer camp that anyone who wanted to could go to. But that doesn't mean that they are bad, just kind of tricky in the way they get people to sign up, right? :confused3

You're right, they're not all bad. Some of them are well run. You need to have someone you respect check it out for you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARA!!!

I saw that the WB assigned days. Honestly I'm not sure I like that. I just spread mine out over a few days, whenever I had a few moments to deliver. We didn't get something every day on the Med repo but it was spread out enough without assigning anything.

Monica, we assigned days on the 11 night Med cruise last summer and it was wonderful -- a few things every day instead of a bunch some days and nothing on others. Of course if people can't do it "their day" or want to take a few days, that's fine, but spreading it out is really a lot of fun.

Here I go again quoting myself...

I just looked at page one and it appears that you have a HUGE committee already for this. And, it is a drinking committee. SIGN ME UP!

You are on!:thumbsup2

I agree Monica.:thumbsup2 John and I would just do a few decks at a time!!!:goodvibes

Hey guys - for those of you in the know - we got some results back FINALLY and it doesn't look good - so I may be a bit absent but I'll be popping in and out.

BTW, I'm considering doing what you suggested Julie - give me a few days. Might work better for those OCD planners. :lmao:

Talk to you later.

Laura, PM or email me when you get the chance and let me know how things are . . .:lovestruc

Does anyone have any idea how many fish extender gifts are needed per person? If everyone participates, it could be huge - aren't we well over 150 DIS families? Are we all exchanging with everyone or are we breaking up the list or something? I guess I'm getting concerned about the cost - even a cheap 50 cent gift (and I would prefer to do something nicer than that!) would add up to at least $75!:scared1:

Pamela

We don't know yet, but honestly you can put as little in as you need to -- some people just throw in a few pieces of candy and some stickers . . . breaking up the list is going to get weird since a lot of us already know each other and will want to be sure we "give" to those we already know and it might not work out on a split list. Also, believe me, not everyone will participate, either, so I don't think it will be 150 families.

Glad it went well, Roger! Sorry you have to come down from your Vicodin high, though . . .

Pamela - its up to the person - but I would suggest you stick to one per cabin if you want. It can get expensive and huge. On the 11-nighter I gave out 1 item per person. It wasa bottle holder that you strap onto your belt buckle and I had over 325 to give. I was going to take them in the suitcase when they got too big. So many people did small stuff, like personalized candy wrapper with Wonder on it, etc, some very smart person made a grab bag with things like safety pins, a pencil, some tape, a paper clip - it was actually a very useful gift. Oh yeah, had some bandaids in it too. Wait - am I getting my cruises mixed up? I may be but that is another option - fill it with stuff from home that everyone one has hanging around.

Even one per cabin sounds like a HUGE undertaking if we are actually talking 150 to 200 cabins! The cost is huge and the amount of space in the luggage could be huge. Most cruises that do this seem to have 10 to 30 cabins which is very do-able - but the shear quantity here is starting to scare me off. :scared1: I would love to do it, but I can't afford to spend $100-$200 or more on this plus the cost to bring extra luggage ....  I could probably handle 50, but 3 to 4 times that amount is just scary.

I would wait until we do the sign ups and then see what the crowd looks like. That may dictate the method to our madness.

Also, our numbers include people as of today, we have the PIF date to pass yet. There are at least 2 or 3 that I know of that have said they are canceling on other threads, but haven't asked to stop the newsletter or officially said here they are out. There are also a number of people who are part of multiple groups and may not want to participate in everything with both groups.

Someone want to guess how many there would be participating in the FE? I know we do not have an exact count but I am trying to look around and get ideas on pricing and sizes.
Do we think 100, 200 or more like 50?

Looks like we were posting at the same time! I can see that breaking up the list could be weird for some folks - but would it work breaking it into something like 30 cabin per group and then you are always free to also give to your special friends as well???

Do you have any idea how many people usually participate (percentage). Even only 50% puts us at 75 to 100 families (I don't have one of Tom's great newsletters here right now to check the latest count). I really wouldn't personally feel comfortable just throwing in a few pieces of cheap candy and then receiving lots of nicer stuff - if it is totally outside my budget, I'll probably just opt out of the "official" event and maybe just give surprise gifts to all the DISers on my deck or something....

Pamela

Not everyone, by a long shot, will participate in the fish extender exchange, and that is perfectly fine. For example, Andrew traditionally does not because of luggage issues coming from the UK. It's just one of many things people can do, and once we have official sign up, people can decide whether or not to do it. On the 5 night cruise following this one (which I am also on), there are over 130 families on the list, so it is simply not true that only smaller Disgroups do this.

People get very creative if they want to do this -- you can make small bookmarks or magnets featuring the logo from the trip, for example, with the only cost being the computer ink and paper and laminating paper or magnet paper. These are also easy to pack. Others will bring inexpensive stickers and buy bags of candy at one of the ports and distribute a sticker and a few candies.

The fun is in planning what you will give out, and in checking the fish extender when coming back to the room. If it seems more stressful than fun, don't sign up and don't worry about it!

How about an informal poll, not official sign ups, but a "hey we are interested list"?

I am scheduled to be on the Eastbound Repositioning Cruise embarking on
August 17, 2008. I was wondering if the schedule for formal nights and
deck parties has been set so that I may pick my shore excursions and
Palo reservations accordingly.

Thanks

Thomas

At least it was quick

Yes luggage for me is an issue, ( thats 'if' it arrives at LAX via British Airways and terminal 5), I will have to budget our luggage for three weeks and the family of four, and do not wish to be charged excess luggage, they are tough at UK Airports now.

Julie you might be pleased that your one is in pride of place, on our fridge/freezer, just checked it still there holding up some notices for the kids schools, was nice to get even thought didn't participate.

I must say on a separate note, never got into the fish extender thing, I am not good at making things and DW isnt into it, again luggage might be an issue preventing even considering it.

I am happy to know that every time you see Michaelangelo's God handling Adam a roll of toilet paper, you think of me!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Even though you weren't participating, I had to make sure you got the magnet . . . I'm sure it gives the notices from Stephen and Alice's schools that extra bit of gravitas!!!!!:rotfl2:

Yep ''The Roll of Honor'' in our household holding up their school schedules.:thumbsup2

Taking 1-2 home isnt an issue, taking a large lot out would be, even the gift exchange, Sally won my London pictorial history book, took up a lot of weight and space.

I have to agree, I think if I had won your book, I would have had to mail it home! We had really low weight limits on our flights from Barcelona to Paris and back. However, generally speaking, the FE gifts are often things you either consume or use on the trip, or are small things that are easy to get home. But do not worry, I am NOT trying to get you to sign up -- once everyone had a giant pictorial history of London dragging in their fish extender, that would be the end of it!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Thats the thing about me, I cant do things in half's you either do it, or not, I wouldn't want anyone to be disappointed with a gift I gave so I spent a lot more on that one, than the budget, it was a nice book and reflected London very well.

Now talking about giving you things, our PM should be in New York by now, look after him, and maybe keep him, as a gift. Mary Jo made up a nice present and I was lucky to receive that, on the kids exchange Alice did well, but Stephens didn't turn up and he was a bit grumpy about it for a while so I took him to the shops and brought him something, ( its called a Stephen con)

I remember when Stephen didn't get the kid exchange gift . . . I didn't realize that he NEVER got it, just that it wasn't at the Dis get-together when everyone was getting them. I know your book was a very nice and generous gift . . . I'm just glad I didn't win it!

We will try to take care of your PM, as well as the Pope later this week . . . but I do believe we plan to return both of them, so I'm afraid you will get PM Brown back . . .

By the way, I did like seeing him pledge 20 million malaria nets to Africa on "Idol Gives Back" last week . . . that's 1/6 of what would be needed to protect everyone in Africa and a very generous gesture by the British people (whether you actually agreed with doing it or not!) . . .
