So today one of my kids at my afterschool program-child happensto be on the autism spectrum-cleaned up an area with out being asked (huge deal for this guy!)So,because I love positive reinforcement,I made a big deal when mom came to pick him up. Put my arm around his shoulder and thanked him and said "you did such a great job! Thanks for helping out!".He then gave me a hug:hug: and a kiss on the cheek! (Big deal because he is not a touchy feely kid. I also knew it was huge because mom had to pick her jaw up off the ground!)

So with an event like that makes me feel as if I made a difference in at least one little guy's life!:cloud9:

Just wanted to share.

Chrissie

That is really awesome, what a huge achievement for him and how wonderful for you. I'm thrilled his mother saw his affection towards you too.

Bip:

It looks like you're all the way aft by the aft elevator cluster - and as such your position on the deck is good. However you'll have a long walk to the theater up front - which would not bother me much since the opposite is true with you being close to the kids' pool aft and Topsiders grill.

boop.gif

Perhaps of greater concern is the cabin reports I've seen complaining about elevator noice and you're located directly above the new teen dance floor they installed on Deck five directly below your cabins. THAT is sure to create a ton of noise from the dancing teenagers and droning rap music.

disneymagic6.gif

OK.... no teen dance floor was installed - it's just sleeping cabins above and below you. So, I'd say it's a decent location. Cheers! :lmao:

Oh you.
You had me going on the teen dance floor- but I figured A) DH is the only one that goes to bed earlier than us- we're night owls and he can sleep thru ANYTHING. lol and B) well that might be where my daughter is- so what better than to have her directly below us to go spy on her.
you had me going for a minute there!

cool- not worried about elevator noise... being close to it is a plus though. Being close to topsiders might be a plus too. It has to be closer to the drink station than we were on the last cruise too. LOL they are directly across from one another... so that's cool. Thanks for the photo so I didn't have to go look it up hehe

In his speedo. Right Earl :lmao: :lmao: And I have heard that speedos are mandatory at all Ecuadorian beaches.

As long as its only the men that have to wear the speedos o r lack there of! :rolleyes1

OK,

CA question - does anybody know where the closest Trader Joe's is to Long Beach Airport & do all the TJ's sell wine in CA? In Mass only a few do.

There's also one in Cerritos Towne Square but that's down the street from the one on Bellflower Blvd.

OK - WHAT DID I MISS? Is it true? Lynn and Keith are coming on this cruise? Or is this a belated April Fool's? :confused3 :confused3

What did I miss? What did I miss!!!!

Whew! All caught up and everyone is asleep.

Don't know how much time I will have Wednesday to DIS as older dd has to have me TAKE her to the dentist - you'd think the girl was 15 - not almost 21. Does it ever end? :scratchin

Anyway, after that - got informed youngest DD's track meet was changed to tomorrow - forecasted rain day - now that really is took some planning :headache:

As usual, I will be taking photos at the meet which will be interesting as to how the 40D works in the cold. Haven't had good luck in the night shots so must work with that.

Then later in the evening - got to pack her off to catechism. Then have an adopted dd for the weekend. As if having one 15 yr old isn't enough - now I will have two and come Friday - 4! :scared1: At least they're girls - I can handle girls - boys? Them - I don't do so hot with! :sad2:

Anyway, long post to say - may not be on here- :goodvibes to all those that need it and hope eveyrone has a safe and calm Wednesday.

LOL My cats used to do that too! For such little things they sure could make a lot of racket. :lmao:

Well, Andrew and Tom enjoyed your April Fool's gags. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Uggh.....................I finally got one of our renters out and they have left us a mess and a half. Went over yesterday to see what needs to be done over there. Dumpster already got delivered this morning and the locksmith will be there today. I don't know what you do to locks that you can't open from outside with your key, but you can work them inside with the key.:confused3 :confused3 I had to climb in through the basement window. We ended up leaving it open last night--maybe someone went in and helped themselves to the ton (and I mean that) of trash and clutter they left. Half the basement and attic are piled with trash almost to the ceiling. May end up taking 2 dumpster loads. At least we didn't have to go through eviction with them, now I just have to go through the court to try to recoup my March rent and damages. And here I was thinking I could see a light for some play time on here.:sad2:

We've been redoing our half bath, new vanity and toilet. Need to get the plumber here this week to get them installed. Alan put up crown moulding and new baseboards and had to tile where the old vanity was took down the wallpaper and painted the walls. It will look great when it is finished. The new vanity has a beautiful vessel sink. I told him I knew what he was going to be doing next winter--redoing the other 3. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Also ordering a product called EON to replace all our decking boards. We had it expanded about 5 years ago and our contractor used Choice Deck (composite) and I have hated it since it was installed. The 2 worst things about it is that he used the wrong screws and it really has a mold/mildew problem. Alan has to powerwash it several times a season. So it is not what we consider maintenance free. But the deck itself is wonderful and we get a lot us use out of it. So we are going to relocate the steps this time and expand the concrete patio underneath. Adam is dreaming of a pool in the backyard, but that isn't going to happen.

My remodeling at the store has been VERY scaled down--I never could work out with public works about leaving all my existing entrances--they wanted to close a main one. So we are just tearing down existing interior walls and not expanding the existing footprint of the store. My new dispensers are in and will be installed right after Derby. This will take 2 weeks and we are having a new facade put on the store at the same time. So NO GAS for 2 weeks--YIKES! But it will be a great improvement when that is finished. My extension to my beverage bar is being installed tomorrow--so we have been moving things around inside to have the room for that.

Visited a college for Adam to start in January 09. If he ends up there he will live at home while going, but it will be $4800 a quarter + class fees. :scared1: If he goes for his associates it will be a year and half program. We still need to check out the community college and see about their business program. I am glad we put some $$ back for him to go to college:eek: , just not enough.

Thunder over Louisville is April 12th and then Derby is 3 weeks after that--so work will be keeping me busy as well. Anyone coming to Louisville for the Derby?

We also jumped ship and will taking the Grandour of the Seas for 10 nights during Thanksgiving. Only Alan and I  --we are looking forward to that. Adam didn't want to go. It will be some different ports for us.

Man, I think I wrote a book:rotfl: :rotfl: Just wanted to let you all know, if anyone pm's me for the Secret Mickey, I might not answer very quickly. The Emerald man is busy working on cruises and he is still working on ours--I will pass information when I receive it from him. I hope we are not too worn out by the time August gets here. 20 more Mondays sure makes it seem closer, doesn't it?

And by the way anyone have any free time? I have a nice guest room;) Have a great day and I will check in when I can with you all:flower3:

:scared1: yikes. Paula, you sure sound busy. We've missed you.

This message board has really gotten to my DH. He was reading Andrew's "story" over my shoulder last night. (Good one Andrew).

Then this morning he told me he had a dream that we were on the ship sitting on the deck by the pool when I just disappeared. It seems I abandoned him to be with my DIS friends.:lmao: :lmao: I think he is feeling a little threatened. So make sure to make him feel welcomed. He will be the guy in the corner all by himself wearing the speedo :rotfl2: .:rotfl2: Good thing he doesn't read this board except over my shoulder, otherwise I would be in trouble. He really is a great guy, just a little shy.

He'll fit right in.

:surfweb:

GM pirate:

Presently 66 going up to 85 here in Central Florida with 30% chance of rain:goodvibes

:welcome: aboard to all the newbies

Happy Birthday and Anniverary to all we have missed

Have a great Wednesday

What did I miss? What did I miss!!!!

Hi Laura -- you missed this a few months back -- yes, Lynn and Keith are on the TOAL! (For those confused, Laura, Lynn and Keith, Andrew and I were all on the same Med cruise last summer . . .)

See, when I read your big type, I thought it was about Dining, not Bracelets....guess more remedial reading for me....

ps, John, when do I get my picking on Cheryl check?

Tom as they say "The check is in the mail".:thumbsup2 :worship:

John

Hi Arlene - DH got off the phone last night with Disney Visa and told me with disbelief that he had just spoken with a woman named Antoinette. He asked me if anyone is actually named "Antoinette"! I suggested it might be that each person in the call center is required to have a different name, so use made-up names. Figured you would know!

He was calling because our card had yet another security hold (I appreciate they are watching out for us, but this seems to happen every couple months!). This one was from buying our trip insurance for TOAL yesterday afternoon. Since the PIF payment was fine a couple weeks ago, you would think that a trip insurance charge fairly close to that would be perfectly normal. Oh well, "Antoinette" was very helpful and friendly and it was easily taken care of.

Pamela

Charges that are done without the card being swiped can cause a hold. Best to call and give CC heads up on larger than usual charges beforehand. And No we don't have made up names. Funny you should think Antoinette was made up.

I think my DH is a little nervous too;) Make sure he is up on some of the lingo and inside jokes-that should help

Good to see you back:yay:

I love jelly beans, but can't eat the Harry Potter ones, too scary:eek:

I was relieved to know I wasn't the only one too. It may be the TA, we have time though...I won't panic until Friday;)

No they just send them directly to you. I got mine last week and it's not alphabetical either. Just random.

Morning everyone. Bit foggy this am. Hope everyone has a great day. It is my Friday.:thumbsup2

Oh you.
You had me going on the teen dance floor- but I figured A) DH is the only one that goes to bed earlier than us- we're night owls and he can sleep thru ANYTHING. lol and B) well that might be where my daughter is- so what better than to have her directly below us to go spy on her.

We are on the opposite end of deck 6. So I have a long walk down the hallway to get up to the drink station for my tea :coffee: in the morning. So if you see me stumbling past say hello. I need my tea before I am human. I am an early riser and DH likes to sleep in so I usually get my tea and plan out the day while he sleeps. Then again you are night owls so you might still be asleep too.:lmao: I will try to be quiet.

Good Morning!!! I am going to go into groundhog mode and see how much I can catch up on all that's been going on with you all!!!

FYI - tonite on the History Channel they are doing a special on the Panamal Canal 7pm EST. I caught the last few minutes and it looked interesting.

There's also one in Cerritos Towne Square but that's down the street from the one on Bellflower Blvd.

Sounds like Dunkin Donut shops around here - one every 1/4 mile :goodvibes

you had me going for a minute there!

That's OK BIP, I got my room assignment and it appears I am located directly under the Dumbotron

I was thinking about doing this (we're not fond of the idea of wearing black in August anyway remember.... remember the whole hot pink discussion? LOL) but weren't sure if we'd want to be so different. But hey if you're doing it too.. plus we'd get two days wear out of the shirts since everyone is wearing them on panama canal day right?

I'm not big on black t*****'s either, however DD seems to be emotionally attached to that color these days. We have already hads some heated discussions about cruise wear - ST!!!

I think I'll get her a black one and me a white -

I thought tday was going to be just an average day (ok with the kids trying to pull April Fool's jokes on me:rotfl2: ).But it wasn't!

So today one of my kids at my afterschool program-child happensto be on the autism spectrum-cleaned up an area with out being asked (huge deal for this guy!)So,because I love positive reinforcement,I made a big deal when mom came to pick him up. Chrissie

Chrissie, thanks for sharing your story - you are a wonderful teacher:flower3:

Nice to see you MaryAnn.. how are you feeling??

I am feeling so much better these days, thanks. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. How are you doing?

I think some folks were looking into the VIP Tours for DL. Just wanted to let you know that the price has changed. It used to be $75 per hour with a 4 hour minimum. It's now $125 per hour with a 6 hour minimum.

:

Thanks for the info. The Enterprise location was showing closed on Sundays when I checked last. I just called and booked a full-size car for 1 day, the one day rental is $65 including taxes and a $25 drop-off fee. I'm not sure why our drop off fee is lower. :confused3 We're picking up at Burbank airport, maybe that makes a difference? Or maybe because it's only a weekend rental? I called a number that was listed specific to California rentals. It was 866-207-8836 if you want to make an attempt at saving $15.

I will certainly call and check it out, thanks. I ordered a premium car to be able to fit all the luggage, perhaps that's why :confused3 . Also, they consider a Nissan Maxima a Premium car???? Other car company consider Grand Marquis type vehicles a premium

Good to see you back:yay:

Thanks, Laurie  .

Here, the rules seem to be set by each town. One town near us allows grocery stores to sell alcohol, but they have to have a separate outside entrance for the alcohol section and you cannot ring up any groceries in that part of the store (and alcohol cannot enter the regular part of the store. My town only requires that the alcohol section can be closed off since there are certain times that the store can be open but cannot sell alcohol (ie before noon on Sunday). Two towns over is Wheaton, IL which was totally "dry" until 1985 - they still have fairly strict rules. (Wheaton is the home of Wheaton College and Billy Graham - and stangely enough, the Belushi brothers!)

*** We haven't received the DCL mailing either :sad2: ***

Pamela

I can remember the days we used to get a group together and do a "packy run" up to NH because you couldn't buy alcohol on Sundays at all in Mass. Yes, I was a "ST" :rotfl:

No DCL mailing here either :sad1:

Then this morning he told me he had a dream that we were on the ship sitting on the deck by the pool when I just disappeared. It seems I abandoned him to be with my DIS friends. He'll fit right in.

:rotfl2: I am married to the guy and love him dearly, but that is a sight even I don't want to see.

Just think, its April 2 and all the good things this means:

1) No more April Fools posts
2) No more April Fools Days between now and the TOAL
3) The TOAL is even closer than it was yesterday

Have a Great! Wednesday.

Morning Pirates! Hope every one survived April Fool's day. Sounds like some were a little worse for wear! DD didn't even really look at the fake candy wrapper! All I got was,"Mom, why did you put my bag of Teddy Grahams in bag? :confused3

Tonight is the school district wide spring vocal concert. It's nice but long. 5 choirs from the WAYC, middle school, and 3 HS choirs. It will be a long night, but the music is nice.

Chrissie, those are the moments that make it all worth while! It sure is nice to know that there are caring teachers out there. This year and last year, dd has been blessed with wonderful teachers, K-2 not so good.

BIP, the transfers really aren't that hard. You can pick up cheap t-shirts at Michael's when they have them for $2.50 or sometime 5 for $10. The transfer paper you can get almost anywhere, from Mike to Walmart. I learned that it is best to wash the shirts first (don't use softener). Dry with no dryer sheets. Use a dry iron (steam doesn't do a good job of adhering it) on a firm surface. I use the top of the washer with a towel on top. I did bowling shirts for one of dd's birthday parties and they turned out cute.

Strange how Crash never answer my question. What excatly is "Psychic Surgery?" :confused3

Somewhat sunny here today and another day baseball game.

OMG this is unbelievable. Is this some kind of record or something? We got their passports today!
That's 8 business days. ONLY 8 BUSINESS DAYS.
I had no idea you could get them that fast- anyone heard of getting them that fast? We didn't pay for expedited either!

Nope i think our application beat the land speed record. Applied for them on a Saturday.... (the PO overnighted them to Philly processing office on Monday AM. We had them back in our mail the next Saturday. So just barely 5 business days for us.) And i didn't pay for expedited either....

Then have an adopted dd for the weekend. As if having one 15 yr old isn't enough - now I will have two and come Friday - 4! :scared1: At least they're girls - I can handle girls -

You want another one..... Permenantly......

I'm not kidding either....

Right now her cell phone is still shut off... and she's been screaming at us all night for the past three nights....

My DH's wallet and my phone disappeared this morning. At least my phone materialized at the HS though but i needed to pick it up so was late for work..

And on top of this she's refusing to take her meds...(ADD/ODD) :headache:

Anyone here a social worker or know how foster homes work....?

Who am i kidding? No one would take her..they'd beg me to take her back...

My only solution at this point is to change the locks on our doors and she'll just have to wait till we get home from work to be escorted inside...

So sorry to hear you are still having trouble with DD (first D not "darling" these days).

Wishing you strength!!

Oh you must be so frustrated. I wish I had a magical solution for you. Our friends in Alaska were going through some similar things with their DD about a year ago. She hit rock bottom, came back, and has been funtioning like a normal member of the family for about 6 months now, so I know it is possible.

I'm generally not a huggy person, so I'll offer you a stiff drink :drinking1

(first D not "darling" these days).

Serenity NOW!!!! D= dasterdly....destructive.... darn... dangerous...devilish...dreadful.....

so I'll offer you a stiff drink :drinking1

Thanks...i needed one of those.... I'll have to settle for my SF latte though till after work hours and the gym though....

Don't drink and use dumbells!!!!
