Alicias' got one brother and sister - plus the brother-in-law who are all optimologists. However, only the one brother is sailing with us... so if ya like you can ask him a bit. They've all done 1000s of patients... plus nearly every other thing with the eye I imagine. They're all in fairly busy practices.

Also, Alicia was her sisters' 1st Lasik patient... and she has had perfect results.

The only considerations I recall from 10 or more years ago when she had hers' done - were that she deliberately under-corrected one eye so she could read when our eyes go for reading ability - thus avoiding the absolute need for reading glasses. Plus - I know the current techniques are less traumatic then when Alicia had hers' done.

In general - it's a good thing - but you need to cover all the details with your medical provider to see if any exceptional risks apply to your situation. I for one have NOT had the procedure done. I've always had the notion that I have a youthful appearance - and in my line of business (the same I've been in 20+ years) most of the folks working for me are older - and a youthful appearance is definately a disadvantage. So glasses make me look a little older - hence I never considered it. However, if not for that I would have done it in an instant.

As for value - I have NO idea what a good value is. However, I might caution that you probably want the BEST professional to do the work as opposed to the cheapest on the planet. We all have our comfort zones for budget - but these are YOUR EYES we're talking about. Law suits are good for pursuing justice - but I think there is NO SETTLEMENT sufficient for any personal injury that might come to your eyes if a bona-fide mistake is committed.

Now as for MY consulting fee... I'll settle for a candid grin when we meet on the ship!

Find me at the bar for payment then!!! I'm going for the Epi-Lasik, i.e. no cutting of my eye. Theoretically if I moved to a preventive role within Customs & had the one where they cut my eye I wouldn't be allowed to do the job, so I guess it's a bit more pain & a stock up on strong painkillers in advance

Hey all, just wanted to pop in and say hello:goodvibes I see I missed Mike's birthday--I hope it was a nice one. :grouphug: and prayers to all that need them. I don't know if I will get caught up, I was back on 211 and then I skipped and read the last 3. Happy Friday:goodvibes

EXTREMELY happy to report I get my stitches out tomorrow am.!!!
I am tired of not looking like "me". I have a swollen black eye, 31 stitches on 2 rows on my face, the BIGGEST bright red zit you have ever seen on my chin :scared1: (where the heck did that come from? :confused3 ), I am currently missing 1 toenail and I have been afraid to take a shower for 2 days. I honestly do not think I have looked worse in recent history. Thank God I work from home!!!!!
But the good news is I finally bought my diamond earrnigs!!! I am hoping they draw attention away from the train wreck on my face (yeah, right) :rotfl2:

It always looks worse before it heals. Keep us updated after the visit.

Too late, Cheryl already saw this.

I don't get the DD thing either. There are 3 gas stations at one intersection near me, one is co-branded with DD and their gas prices are often $.10 higher than the other two, yet their pumps are always packed. Guess DD is that much of a draw....

Also, Starbucks is going to be hurt bad by the recession (yes, recession, I said it). Everyone says that is one area they will cut back.

I like DD. Use Splenda as well. Have been cutting back on the amount tho. The Starbucks around here seem to have less people sitting around when I drive by them at night. They serve it at work and have also brought in another coffee vendor as many didn't care for it as well.

I just lost my breakfast watching this:scared1:

Did anyone notice the lack of tan below the gut? Gross.

Morning all.. Sorry I have been MIA but between life, and Geoff's Eagle ceremony planning and end of qtr, things have been busy..

But in line with all of the talk about recession and job security.. I have a new job.. I will start on April 7 , leaving old one on April 3..;)

M- I still think about my parents too. I try not to remember my Mom as she was in the later years, all sick etc, but before that when she was young and healthy and vibrant. My Dad is harder to open my feelings about as he passed only a few years ago and we were going to go to F&W festical together .... :grouphug:

Gonna ketchup some and be back..

Congrats on the new job and Geoffs Eagle.

Went to a meeting yesterday which involved a premeeting in Starbucks inWeybridge, Surrey. I reralise that it is an affluent area, however by the time we left it was more like a toddler group than a coffee shop with lots of bugaboos & avent feeding bottles sat alongside the cups of frothy coffee. I couldn't have afforded to do that when I was on maternity leave & even though I'm now full time at work, the pennnies are going in other directions (TOAL)

It's been crazy, busy & hectic here. I am still un-packing and it feels like it's taking forever !! Chuck & I are just plain ole tired.

G'mornin' pirate:s
I'm tired. Frantically cleaning for houseguests. My dad and his girlfriend are showing up sometime this afternoon. It'll be nice to see them. Going to do DC touristy stuff all weekend. The visit will be really good for me. April 23 will be 10 years since my mom died. Anniversaries usually don't bother me, but this one has been icky since about Christmas (10 years since our last, blah, blah, blah). Anyway. Dad's GF's husband died a week after my mom. They met in a young widow/er support group (they were 50), so she gets it.
ANYWAY... sorry for the downer, just where I am this morning...

 No worries, M. It's 9 years tomorrow for me :sad1: And that weighing down w/a bunch of total carp going on here in the office ... let's just say PASS THE RUM pirate: Enjoy your weekend w/your Dad and playing tourist.

For all the birthday's I have missed........
:cheer2: :cheer2: :bday:

awww TOO CUTE!

Here's a smiley for ya to laugh...:lmao:
Here's a hug...
& Here's a dancing banana... (do with it what you want)

:goodvibes Nice banana.
I love the story about your Mom. I'm usually OK with holidays and anniversaries because I can steel myself for them, but it's the everyday, "I did something crazy & want to pick up the phone to tell her" stuff that gets to me. My family laughs a lot, usually at ourselves.

My dad & his girlfriend have been together 8 years. We can talk about Mom around her & she talks about her husband. I have no doubt that she and my dad love eachother, but they both realize and acknowledge that they wouldn't be together if they hadn't lost the love of their life. We all love Dad's GF & are happy he found someone. I didn't want to see him alone forever. It is all frighteningly healthy!

Congrats on the new job and the Eagle Scout!

:grouphug: I really think that we should only have anniversaries for happy things.

All I can really say is T G I F :cool1: Been a long week. I hate work carp! And I'd also like to say a big THANK YOU to all the pirate: that joined me for my whine and cheese party earlier in the week. I've been thinking a lot about your words of encouragement and the theme of "everything happens for a reason" ... I might have stumbled upon something that could potentially be a VERY GOOD thing for me job-wise. Going to keep mum until I know for sure ... but I wouldn't have remained positive, upbeat and persistant without your threats to walk-the-plank ... isn't that what pirate: say before and after PASS THE RUM ;)

~Kandi

Me too:lmao: Tom posted a link several thread versions back for a video of the Jolly Pirate ship and it was full of skinny college kids:scared1: Had to remind myself that ours was going to have more middle-aged, pooh-shaped people:rolleyes:

Well if we're all looking the same, at least I'll feel comfortable with everyone.... :goodvibes
Makes me feel better!

Same thing in some of the neighborhoods around where I work. Sometimes I'll pop in on my drive to work and there's tons of moms and toddlers. Who had the money or the time to do that when our kids were litte??

Hope everything works out for you! It stinks when work isn't good, as you have to spend so much time there. Must be something about the weather... work stinks for me too.
My boss got fired (unfairly) and now everybody is lost without him. I've had a couple of run-ins with the interim boss & we don't get along & he doesn't allow me to do my job (keeps butting in & going behind my back). So then last night he says he leaving & I go to work at the desk he had been at & when I was cleaning I find a paper that he left there listing my job, stating that people could send their resumes to our main office. Makes me feel real warm & fuzzy!:confused3
OK now I've vented... thank you! TGIF!!

That bites. DH long time ago worked for someone like that and found something similar. He got another job before they could fire him.
