Congrat's on being paid in full, the $ rate has helped, I am trying to pay off the 2009 cruise month by month at the moment whilst the rate is good.

Good luck on the room, I think most GTY's will be assigned after 90 days. when there will be some drop outs.

We paid up the other day, with the £/$ rate fluctuating. Now waiting for 90days.

Linda has a fear of heights, so I didn't push the issue. Turns out that she is more excited about doing the zip line than I am. I think she wants to face her fears and that this will be a great way to do it. I'm still a little worried about DS8 chickening out, but he seems really excited about it too.

We hope that we'll be on the 1:00 tour, but I don't know how full they are and how many people they accept. So we put 2:00 as our alternate time. If they put us on that one, maybe we'll still see some of you pirates if you're still at the bar/waterpark area after your tour. I'll let you know how we make out.

I, too, am a Linda with a fear of heights! But I read reviews about this particlar tour on CC and people who also had this fear seemed to enjoy it. It sounds like you get used to it and are having a great time before the really high ones kick in. And I've done parasailing, and enjoyed that.

There are several restaurant choices around the Double Tree. Ports O'Call Village is very close where you can dine on the water (Acapulco-Mexican food, Crusty Crab, Ports O'Call, and San Pedro Fish Market). Unfortunately there are no ships sailing that day.

Diane, I really hope that they just choose to go back after Labor Day so that it isn't an issue. If they do start earlier, it sounds like they would only miss the first two days of school. I know that's not ideal, but they probably won't miss too much since it's 2 days of class followed by a 4 day weekend.

I know the feeling though. We were booked in 2005 and I thought we would be OK because my school used to start after Labor Day too. I double checked after we booked, and found out that it started the Monday before. I would have missed the entire first week of classes, including the mandatory orientation, so we had to cancel, and I felt terrible about it.

I hope everything works out for you. Looking forward to meeting you and the family; and Linda and I will still be buying you a thesis drink. (Provided you get it finished before the cruise! )

Aw Mike you & DW are awesome! Thanks for the encouraging words! I'm feeling a bit better about it this morning. I sent a scathing letter to the Sup & suprisingly he got right back to me!

I fully expect school will start after Labor Day next year, so I think you can relax. The final decision will be made Wednesday February 13th, but it is really the contract we have with teachers that determines the start of the school year. There are years when the contract states that we start before Labor Day. This is the time of year that we normally formulate next year’s calendar, so this is not atypical. We tried to get the union to negotiate the calendar much earlier, a year in advance, but they declined. There were some very compelling reasons for us to try to start before Labor Day. However, the union was unwilling to make a change. While the School Committee would probably like to start early, they will have to comply with the contract.

So it sounds a bit more encouraging, but if it did happen it would be ultimately up to the kids & DS said no way would we cancel the cruise, I'd rather miss a few days & DD just shrugged so I take that as her typical ST response of "I don't care!" So although it would be difficult, we're going!!!

THis is our schedule also. Julia will miss three days. The good thing is she will have the same team of teachers next year and they are a great bunch. They will aloww to stay after school to catch up, at least that is what she did for last week.

Sounds like a lot of people are in the same boat, so I guess I shouldn't feel bad!

Here the kids do band camp the week before school starts and it is mandatory they attend. They learn the marching patterns etc. If a child were to miss it they would not be in band. She won't take nay excuses at all......

We never go back before Labor Day here unless Labor is really late so I thought I was completely safe booking this cruise until my neighbor told me about this article in our local paper! Now I don't know what to do since my DD is starting highschool & DS is starting middleschool!

Our schools calendars are usually out 2 years at a time. For the 08-09 school year our kids start 8/12 and get out May 21st. I am so glad Adam is a senior this year.

The ship will be on local time, it will adjust by an hour out of LA, before Cabo. (Last time it was forward one hour on LA Night before the sea day).

I am hoping that I am okay with my Cabo tour time??? If the Disney Site shows that we are arriving in Cabo at 9am do you think that I am safe if my tour group is meeting at 10am? It sounds like the meeting place is very close to the boat. Do you think that both Disney and the tour company are using Cabo local time? Is anyone else doing the Wild Canyon Ekopark Cabo Canopy Monster Zip? It sounds great because they are one of the few tours that have cruise ship pickup.

Did I tell you that we're swapping Jordan for Jay for the March trip? Jay doesn't want to take the extra time away from work, since we'll be gone so long in June.
So it will be me, Jared and Jordan. No boyfriends this time....he won't be finished at the police academy by then.
Hmmm..maybe he can keep Jay out of jail!

DCL will be using local time there, they change clocks out of LA by and hour.

The issue will be 'tenders' that could slow you down but and hour hopefully will be OK.

DCL will allow their own shore trips off first, anyone going it alone, will have to go to the Buena vista theater to obtain a tender ticket and that can take time.

Yes that is it. The meeting time at the pier is 10am, but the tour time says 10:30. I am not sure if it is too late for the group discount because I already paid. There are 4 of us in my group (DH DS8 and DD10). It would be great if others from this thread are joining the same tour.

My kids school calendar was just posted and we go back 8/18 - yup thats right the day after the cruise leaves. DH and I really wanted to do this trip since we had such a great time in 2005 so he went and met with both kids principals and explained to them about the panama canal, great learningexperience, once in a lifetime (well ok twice in 3 years -LOL) and they both agreed we should go. DD is going into 8th grade and we know a trip like this wont be possible once she is in highschool. So they will both miss the first two weeks (MS principal said really only one week of curiculum since first week dont do any work) and both principals said they would count the absences as excused so kids can make up work. I had them email me their approval so I can present to teachers at back to school night.

Both my kids are straight A students and although they may have some catchup to do - I think they will be ok. Of course I know some may not agree with this decision and thats fine.. I think the memories will outway any extra work we need to do.
