OK - I'll try and find some time tomorrow to make a couple versions: one with the date or somthing that identifies the cruise and one plain-vanilla version for those who might prefer that. Hopefully, Tom can post the link to them on the website once they are done.

Pamela (pdarrah)

That's wonderful, Pamela -- thank you!

One thing I have been thinking about is how much fun some of us on my July 28 Med cruise had doing wine tastings together. It made the experience so much better to have people around that you knew/were getting to know. We could organize a list of those who are interested in beer tastings, wine tastings, tequila tastings, etc., and then of course no one could do anything before we get on the ship, but we could try to coordinate somehow.

This sounds like a lot of fun! I'll do ALL the tastings!

Hi luvmy3sons,

I just wanted to say that I love your tag line about "the only princess: in a house full of pirate: "!!

In our house the is DH, DS, 6 male cats and me! I am seriously outnumbered :lmao: One of the cats is a calico and they are usually female - of course, he turned out to be the 1:3000 male calico!

I'm so proud of DS today. Due to the new bedroom set, he's had to do a LOT of cleaning out in his room. He's now got a bigger bed and a bigger dresser.

... [edited]....
Hit a snag so DS and my friend had to make a Home Depot run. The slats they gave us apparently are not from this bed, they were an inch too short. So the boys are out getting lumber and making our own slats.

I'm pleased to see things are doing so well over at your place Monica.

Cheers for Trevoy!

Hi -

Yes - out numbered! DS12, DS11 and DS4 and DH who also acts like a kid. So much 'maleness' in the house! I do go out to dinner once a week for girl night. Helps keep me sane.

Can't wait to meet you!

Penny

I can type quite fast, however, I did type up most of the information that I put in the chat in advance so I just had to copy and paste.

Tracy

Man, that Chat was fast. It sure helped alot once you changed your font size and color. Thanks for doing that. It was fun - even if I didn't win anything.

Just wanted to 2nd the thanks to Tracy for the chat (and changing her font!). My eyes didn't work well for awhile after that, but it was loads of fun! And winning a gift card was icing on the cake! :cake:

29 years of happiness.
So how long have you been married?

anniversary_1.gif

For Kevin and Debi.... My warmest wishes to you two on your 29th anniversary!

oops! I just found out the reference to your 29th was from a PRIOR sailing! Oh well.. just the same I'll leave theoriginal posting unedited.

I am the exqact opposite of a shoe horse. If I own 5 pairs total I would be surprised so anything I briong has to serve multiple purposes.

I'm in the same boat. Don't know what I'm doing for shoes. I got a nice Rockport sandal prior to our last cruise. Thinking of a new pair of waterproof type sandal. Mine are looking a bit dated.

Good evening everyone!

Today was such an awesome day! I got to talk to 2 of my favourite members of Duran Duran!!!!! There was an acoustic intimate concert..I WAS THERE!!! I was the one and only audience question!!!!It was so cool!

ANYWAY....I wanted to volunteer to design..I guess I will call them credentials(?) a tag in our Dis green...with our logo and maybe our screen and real names? I would be happy to do this.....something to be hung on a lanyard..or backpack???

Let me know.........

Chrissie

Sounds like you had a blast Chrissie! :woohoo:

I would love a tag for my lanyard! Thanks for volunteering! :flower3:

Hi

A question for the wenches:

Have any of you gotten gloves for Princess night yet? If so, where did you get them?

DW just picked out a tiara on ebay, so we ordered it.

Beautiful tiara. I'm going to hit AC Moore tomorrow & see if they still have some on sale?

As for the gloves, I don't know, but I'm going to hold off since I won't be buying my dresses till I lose some darn weight!

One thought I passed onto the webmasters was to allow sub-threads. Have a heading with date of cruise then have one roll call, one chat and one planning info threads underneath. Would give the best of all worlds?

That's a great idea! :thumbsup2

Had to show you all a couple of door signs I had "designed".

Very nice! I'm not that creative!

29 years of happiness.
So how long have you been married?

:lmao:

Loved this on the repo. Our group organized a wine tasting, beer tasting, tequila tasting, and martini tasting. Yes, I did them ALL.

It was arranged with DCL and we had our own tastings. We didn't have to coordinate with the general offerings. I'm not sure how it was done though.

Um alchohol tasting? Heck ya...I'll be there! ;) I did the martini & tequila tasting before. Some of it's a little too strong for me, but I just give them to DH. I won't do the beer, but I know DH would love to, so maybe I'll go watch.

I'm so proud of DS today. Due to the new bedroom set, he's had to do a LOT of cleaning out in his room. He's now got a bigger bed and a bigger dresser.

He is a bit of a sentimental pack rat. He doesn't want to let go of anything because of the memories they hold. But, he's added another 4 large trash bags full of giveaways today. Added to the 4 we already took to Goodwill yesterday. And the 2 bags of trash he's cleaned out. He's doing really well.

You'd think with all that he'd have nothing left in his room. Think again. There's still one wall of his room that we haven't touched yet. There's a book case, a file cabinet and a huge toybox that hasn't been touched yet. We just did enough to be able to get the bed and dresser in.

Hit a snag so DS and my friend had to make a Home Depot run. The slats they gave us apparently are not from this bed, they were an inch too short. So the boys are out getting lumber and making our own slats.

Glad to hear things are going well!

Would anyone be interested in a variation on this one? I came up with the idea for our Jan 2007 cruise and one of the other DISers actually put it together. I could change the date or create it without any date so it could be used on any future cruise... Most of us on that cruise had this magnet (most printed their own and I made a couple for people who didn't have color printers) so you knew which rooms wer DISers.

I love it! :yay:

 everyone - just had a minute or two to check in - we are going out for a VERY late dinner. Guess I just blew my diet YET AGAIN!

Hi Tom! Haven't seen you for a while. Guess what I got?

PHOTO ALERT PHOTO ALERT!!!

I finally, after 20 some years of waiting finally have my decent digital lenses.

OK DH went a bit overboard but God willing - if things go well for this TOAL, I will now have the following lenses onboard with me -

1 - the Canon 24-105 mm Ultrasonic image stabilizer
2 - the Canon 70-200 mm " " "
3 - and the Mother of all - the Canon 100-400 Ultrasonic Image Stabilizer lens

and of course the UV and several spare Circular Polarizers. I learned my lesson in Europe - I went through 3 of them. Course, turns out when I finally opened these lenses that they were bigger than my old ones.

I still have my 30D and have been playing around with the 40D. I have unofficially become the St. Paul JV soccer team photographer and have managed to take some great action shots with my big lens. The girls are undefeated in league games so I hope that continues - just 3 more games to go. Oh I so :lovestruc DH - he's a sweetheart. COURSE, I didn't give him much of a choice - told him I needed these lenses since he never replaced my camcorder.

BTW - Can I talk someone into taking some video of this TOAL for me? I'd be willing to swap pictures if anyone wants. Although - be warned - I most likely will be going places that DCL may not go. DH and I like to go independent although we usually end up seeing many DCL tour buses when we go. Luckily we're usually ahead of them.

OK enough of my bragging - hope I didn't get on anyone's nerves - just excited as this is the first time that I've gotten Canon lenses - I usually stick to Tamron - I have 2 Canon lenses which I bought for my conventional camera but these image stabilizers lenses are the bomb!

Oh yeah - got my Olympus Stylus 770 SW but just found out that Olympus will be making a 1030 SW which is shockproof from 6 ft high and waterproof again to a depth of 33 ft AND freezeproof to 14 Degrees. HOWEVER, it it not to be found anywhere. Anyone know when it is supposed to be out?

I know - too much camera geek - Sorry all! I meant well.

And yes, in case anyone is interested, the big lens is too heavy - I have me a monopod for it.

AND in case anyone remembers - I now have BOTH of the cameras insured so should I happen to get hit by any more old ladies and their bags - or if DH is holding the camera and gets hit by a wave - then the camera is covered. Insured for everything but actual camera body theft and any loss of info stemming from fire. The camera however, is covered for fire, dropping, falling from a pocket s/a while on a roller coaster, getting smacked by a wave at Devil's beach, etc. Gotta love Ritz Camera! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 It was expensive but for me - worth it - considering my history with electronics and all. Hey I even got the small one insured. Figured my going rate of cameras is one about every 18 months for small point and shoots and 1 every 5 years on the big one. Although nothing every happened to my Canon Rebel. Gosh - I must stop. Talk to you all later.

The door signs look great! When we went in 2005 - I made up lime green mickey heads and put each of our names and our favorite character for door magnets. We also put up a wipe off board for notes...

Any of the tastings are good for me! Except the beer...but I can socialize!

I've been thinking about this. So many were intimidated by the pace of our thread when it started a year ago. It slowed down significantly. But now with the new thread, it's been fast and furious again. I LOVE it myself. I never had a problem with the pass of the old thread. It was a lot of fun for me. But I know many who did not like it. Not sure how we solve that though. I do not want to tell anyone not to chat, cuz that would have to apply to myself as well. But maybe you're right, we could title our message if it is an actualy cruise planning message. :confused3

Otherwise maybe we could go back to the old fashion 100 or 1000 post summaries? Now that we have Crash as the thread starter, we will be able to add the summaries to the first post much easier.

What makes ya think I'd cooporate?

I've been considered by some as a random (unpredictable) quantity

A pirate: run already? I think I was the one on the phone with Cheryl:rolleyes1

Laura,

All those lenses are NICE.... all "L" too.... are you doin' the 70-200 IS f2.8 or f4 IS? The 2.8 is BIG around and weighs as much as a cinder block. You'll want hard cases for those babies. I am a whimp (and reluctant to part with the cash) and just kicking around the idea of what I'd do with an f.2.8 and its' speed and beautiful bokeh performance. The lenses you've cited are ALMOST all the ones I'd ultimately WANT (weight and bulk disregarded) .... except, I might want the 24-70 f2.8 (no IS - surprised, eh?)

4.jpg

And as for the 24-105 f4 IS.... THAT is a nice lense with good reviews. My BIL has all these L lenses and swears by them. The 100-400 with a tele converter gives you some real reach too. Something to consider perhaps.

And although this may rankle some feathers - I've heard of some mixed opinions of he Oly's image performance. It's tough to find any quantitative data or technical comparisons - however, I must say there's something to beam about when your digicam can go underwater, get frozen, crushed and tossed ... and STILL keep on tickin' so to speak... regardless of the image performance! IE, how awful can the output be? Perhaps you should take a memory card into Best Buy and shoot a few images to personally evaluate before you buy - just to validate the handling characteristics and output quality.

I don't know if I'll have my old 10D or any other body by embarkation. I'm being Mr. Resistant to change for various reasons that may not make sense to most folks. However, I ALMOST bid to buy a 30D and 20D in the last week... and in each case I wandered over to the 40D technical reviews and discontinued my interest in bidding. Only to watch it sell and think.... DARN! .... what a BARGAIN that was which just sold! AND just tonite my spouse asked me what I wanted for Valentines day - and I reminder her NOT to buyme the 40D as the "time was not right yet".

On the flip side of things ... I just bought a carbon fiber magnesium alloy tripod a couple of days ago. And am now shopping for a magnesium allow head which suits my taste. I got a good deal on it as it should sell new for maybe $600 without the head. Well... under ideal circumstances it might.

The old tripod I've been using is a piece of junk which actually served OK for me... but I was sort of thinking this tripod cost pennies on dollar in relation to the gear I mount - so I was hunting for a replacement for some time now.

Laura, ya got me thinkin' about my lenses again! SHAME on ya! < "wink" >

So - have you visited Fred Miranda for their user posted reviews and ratings of your proposed lenses? OK... sorry to take the thread on the tanget...

I gotta go fer a while now...
