Yes, thanks again for the number -- but as for whether I used it, once again, I won't tell!:goodvibes

He wasn't as cute as the waiter I met in Florence, anyway . . . wow, he was absolutely adorable . . .
Tell us more,Tell us more, like has he a car? (Sorry thats Grease)

Florence ah?

Now to think it we had an absolutely adorable one as well, in Florence, so nice, so charming, very feminine, very very feminine, if you get what I mean, he liked a slice of lemon in his tea!:rolleyes1 Ladies would get on so well with him, they would feel, how can I put it, ''Safe''

I have sent an email off to Leland Miles--the emerald man and am waiting to here back from him. :)

I think it would be fun to go together & we'd be a smaller group than DCL.

I have no problems travelling alone - I did it again this summer in Paris & the repo cruise. I also took my 2 kids on adventures while they were young.- including a 6 week cross country trip.
I am "cautiously fearless" - how's that for a discription!!! :rotfl2:

What did you ask the emeradl man?

Wow go away for a few days. Well can hardly wait untill "old" threads over x number of days are deleted. Seems that things over 2 years might be taking up band with as well.

That is a good point also. I just can't imagine how frustrated they are also--they spent all the $$ to upgrade everything and it didn't seem to help. I really think they will come up with a solution to the problems--may take some time.:)

Here's my $0.02 on the thread size issue.

If the long threads are slowing down the boards, then I don't have a problem with a post cap. That's as long as they just lock it, but that it is still available to be read. Then the mods can start up a new thread with the same title, Part 2, Part 3, etc. Then just use the first post to link to the old thread, and the last post of the old thread to link to the new thread. This way everything is still maintained for reference and fairly easy to navigate. And most people would be in the newest portion of the thread, so they wouldn't be accessing super-long threads anymore, which in theory should speed things up.

I also hope that they would "grandfather clause" the existing threads and not delete them. You never know when you might want to dig up a groundhog!

:thumbsup2
That's what I'm hoping for - locked with a links back and forth between them.

And the thing about groundhogs is that they dig themselves up!

Julie & Paula,
Do you think we should check into organizing a private tour for some of us who like to tour independently - but prefer to be cautious while in Columbia?

I love history (was a History major) - and want to see the sites.

Hmmmm?

This history minor and poli sci major (no history major at his school) would be interested in that. We've never done a DCL excursion and I wasn't excited about starting.

M, up until this cruise--that is all we have ever done are the ship's excursions. never really gave it any thought--if we didn't do an excursion, we would just walk around the port on our own. But I am having fun planning this cruise more so than others in the past.:goodvibes

Well, it looks like you all hit the ground running. :)

For those who think we singled out your thread, there were plenty of others, particularly on the Community Board.

A lot of time and effort has gone into changing the servers. The last thing anyone anticipated was this problem with the long threads. Once it was suspected they were the cause of some issues we saw, they were temporarily removed to see if it made a difference. As you can see, the boards are humming along for the first time since we switched servers. (I'm not going to pretend I understand any of the technical 'stuff.' As far as I'm concerned, a server is someone who brings your food to the table.)

I know that the long threads are somewhere and they're trying to come up with a way to bring them back without having the same problems return with them. In the meantime you, like most who participate in these long threads, started a new one. We never expected you to wait and are happy to see that you were able to pick up where you left off.

BTW, the basic premise of the poll is way off since the Mods have nothing to do with any of this. This is in the hands of our tech guys so please lighten up on the terrific Mods who volunteer their time to keep an eye on the boards.

Thanks!

The best part (NOT) about having the kids reach driving age, is having them tell me what I'm doing wrong when I'm driving.
"Mom...you're not supposed to pass in an intersection"
"Mom...you're 10 miles over the speed limit"
"Mom....you're supposed to stop when you run over a jogger"

:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

My DS10 does that.....

Well, gee...I suppose I should get off my duff and get some work done.

But first...a CRUISE QUESTION......

Looking at the Cartegena excursions, there are two beach resort ones listed....does anyone have any kind of insider info or thoughts on either one of them??

I think there was a snorkeling one too? Maybe that too....

I dont know about his innocence on anything ...I was just saying he aint here ..LOL

pirate:

Wasn't he there recently tho.... :lmao: :lmao:

From this in the Ny Times:

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpa...93BA35753C1A963958260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=4

it sounds as if either would be fine -- Baru Island is more of a beach, reachable only by boat, with possible strolling vendors, etc., whereas the other one is at a hotel resort nearer the dock.

The article date was 1995.... I wonder how current the information is?

Speaking of Aruba, when I looked more closely into the beach excursions, it looks like there is a really neat one for the kids that includes a water park! A bit pricey but might be worth it, especially since it includes an OPEN BAR! :worship:

Edited to add it actually says, "alcoholic beverages will be served" so not necessarily unlimited, but still a pretty good deal!

Aren't there some beaches fairly close to the port? Also, those going on the Roger's Jolly Pirates will be leaving from a beach area.

As I said in the other thread about this, I was always wondering if they were going to sue . . . they live on Staten Island and of course that was a big tragedy. The question I would have is whether something faulty in DCL's design actually caused the injury to be fatal -- because as we know older people fall all the time and sustain injuries. I really don't know enough to speculate.

The amount asked does seem small to me, though!

$75,000 is the minimum amount you must request in federal court. You don't specify your maximum (don't want to cap it off....). The reporter didn't understand why that was in the complaint.

Thanks for the input on Cartegena everyone..... All I know is that after a few days at sea, and then going through the Canal, we are going to NEED to get WET. Nope, the ship's pool won't cut it.

I am leaning towards Baru also.

Thanks Andrew...that does help decide if we'd want to go to one of the mainland beaches or not. I guess that's a NOT.

See above about snorkeling

What a shame to ruin a vacation with such a medical emergency.Hate to post yet another sad story. I spoke to a woman who lost her dad on a cruise to Hawaii. Seems a rogue wave hit the side of the ship and he was thrown down. Hit his head and went to dr and said he was ok. Small bruise. It was his anniversary and he had bought a bottle of wine for his table. Later he started experiencing signs he was not ok. they had to airlift him off the ship (wife had to wait to get to him a few days later)and he had some brain injury which even with emergency surgery he didn't make it. Here is the kicker to this. They took out insurance but were declined due to the fact he was drinking!!! Even tho the tablemates testified he only toasted 1 glass of wine, he signed for the bottle, it was empty and they deemed him drunk and therefore ineligible for the insurance and the cruise ship was not responsible. That was a terrible story to hear.Especially on what was to be such a happy occasion. Sorry. Did put a disclaimer on first.

So we board on the 4th deck I have been told and walk down the stairs to be announced. Hmmmm DH will have his scooter so we may just need to leave it parked for a bit. Elevators are a pain with the scooter.Especially the first and last day. We usually have to go the opposite direction to get one for ourselves if we are using the smaller elevators.

I was looking at my checklist and still haven't started the renewal of my passport and DHs application for one. It's the picture thingy. I hate to have my picture taken.Guess we need to get that started as well.

1) Good reason to have vacation insurance, if you didn't get it with DCL, there are links on the website for 3rd party insurance
2) I'm sure they will have an elevator just for situations like yours (e.g. not going all up and down)
3) Start on that passport today!!!! Remember, it may take 16 weeks or more to get it... don't want to be sweating in July....

I would feel safer with a DIS group. If I can't get a DCL excursion I'm going to venture out anyway:confused3 Maybe we'll join you:goodvibes

That poll is starting to annoy me. Did the Dis put it there or what and can we make it go away?

I was going to say something like:
Julie & Paula,
Do you think we should check into organizing a private tour for some of us who like to tour independently - but prefer to be cautious while in Columbia?

Hmmmm?

Well, the wallet we need, but what's wrong with the other???:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I'm sure your friend Fabrizio had pinched a few in his time . . .

And I was pinched more in Mardi Gras crowds in New Orleans than I ever was in Italy (even when I went there when I was younger!).

Oh, you've been to Mardi Gras......... Did you... wait, this is a family board, never mind :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I don't know about beachs from what Andrew has posted. There was an interesting article in NY Times travel mag (I think you posted about it also) about Cartagena - it has a colorful history and apparently some interesting places to see.
I'm not sure if Matt would find that fun - maybe he'll want to stay on the ship.

We usually do the DCL excursions (yes, I am a wuss.:rolleyes1) I like to see the history and culture of a country as well as the landscape. But I would feel safe and comforable with other DISers. Maybe I am fearlessly cautious.:rotfl:

Thank you so much for the detailed and specific update to this thread, and the Mods do a great job and we do really appreciate the work you do, and the problems the tech guys ( and girls) have, we can see they are on the right track in this case thank you so much for your hard work.

So your waiter was perhaps more YOUR type than Susan's, eh????:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

My guy was so cute --he even tried to do a De Niro accent/scene for me after hearing I was from NYC . . .

If you want checks, try these

No, I was more his type, than the other way around. Yes he tried to do a De Niro accent/scene for me as well.

Regina, thanks for the update -- and most of us had nothing to do with that poll!

As long as we can eventually read the old thread, I don't think anyone would mind having it locked for new postings. Could that be done and still have the server speed improved???

I agree Andrew. A big thank you to all the mods:)

Oh no, that means the food porn thread on the theme parks board could be on the chopping block.:guilty: That thread has been going since early 2005.

My guess, they cant do that, well in its original form, as the problem was first said to be that when you access a long thread, it searches from post 1, to the current page. If we all do that at the same time it, slows the server. (Does pirates make it worse?)

Maybe an edited version, or out for a limited time, or to a few people?

:thumbsup2

M-
History major/poli sci minor here!!!!!

It looks like there is some interest in forming our own tour group - maybe I should start keeping a list of those who expressed interest!!
Do you boys enjoy touring around new places? I'm not sure if DGS Matt (71/2yrs then) will want to go.

The article date was 1995.... I wonder how current the information is?

There has been a much more recent NY Times article about Cartegena, which I originally posted and Chris just posted again. I just listed that one because it specifically mentioned Baru Beach and the hotel used in the other excursion. If anything, things should have improved since 1995.

Thanks for the clarification about the $75,000.

We can swap Mardi Gras stories on the ship over a beer!!! When I was younger I had friends who owned a coffee shop in the French Quarter and lived over the shop -- they threw fabulous parties all day in their apartment and had a balcony overlooking Dauphine Street. I went several years . . .
