8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #15 /Life After the PC

Not planning a thing for June!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: Now if we could get David to take a side trip.:cool1: :cool1:

I will wait to see what is really going to happen on the 7th.:rolleyes1 I just like it warm.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

...LOL! I did a ton of research before I bought any of my other lenses so, I know I have research to do now........ DH wants new camera stuff BUT, I know how it goes...he wants me to read everything and learn how to use it and then hand it to him and just tell him what to do! LOL!

It sounds like y'all will have a great Holloween cruise!

Well...

... let the truth be known... I am a cheap skin flint... and Alicia and I were a match made in Heaven in this regard. So it's going to be slow going before I get too crazy with my camera equipment. However, that said I was thinking there MUST be some way I can twist this DSLR thing around so Alicia will give me her blessings freely. AND... I don't know if I'd ever be comfortable with a $2200 lens + $4500 DSLR body + camera bag with UNKNOWN value while walking around some parts of Los Angeles... and elsewhere around the world. There are just too many people who might think they earn so and so amount and here's this chump with maybe $7000-10,000 in equipment that they could FENCE for $500-1000 quick.... and income tax free. I on the other hand had to pay taxes on what I spent - or at least the portion that I could not write off.

So... maybe I'd be happier with my frugal used 10D body and $400 lens?

NAWWWW!!!!

Seriously, it seems more common to me that folks are shooting with better equipment at the Soccer games and so on... so maybe I'll do some kind of upgrade at some point.

And Steph... on your deductive process for aquisitions with your spouse... Alicia and I take on a similar path in that I like to share the rational with her - even though she will not shoot with my equipment. Franly I'd prefer she share my passions for photography - but all she wants are the best images to share with her girlfriends, colleauges and business aquaintences.

And thanks on the cruise. I thought this must seem sort of silly to be returning so soon to these ports - but then again one is new and I'm doing this mostly to spend time with MY Dad and step mother. Plus I have difficulty resisting some deals which seem too good to be true. As in when I first met Alicia....

( wink )

Just the same ... Steph ... thank you for the repeat cruising encouragement.

Ok, seeing as DCL didn't play the darn tune (not even once) during the TOAL, and nobody's put up a slideshow verison on smugmug........yet pirate:

Here it is.......DIS Pirates in the Panama Canal, Van Halen Edition, including a timelapse of the transit.

Crank up the speakers and clickey clickey:

DIS Pirates Transit The Canal with Van Halen's Panama

Andy

PS Shame the song is about a car.

That is nothing short of fabulous Andy!!
My DH is like this: :worship: :worship: :worship:
He is so happy you used the full version of the song and LIVE too! LOL

He wanted to know the details again of what you used and how you got the shots and if you have a picture of your camera so far off the side of the ship! I know you had posted somewhere about what you were doing...but its all a foreign language to me...so can you post it all again in tech terms for him? He will be in :cloud9: !

:rotfl2:

Whatever you said but we did pay $349 at Best Buy last Thanskgiving for the camera(with lots of extras) and he did not record in the high quality as to get more on mini. :woohoo: The quality was perfect except for the lightening in RBD.:flower3: He will have to take a few lessons in putting it into smug mug. He also had to read the directions on our DVD player to transfer the mini's to the larger DVD which he is doing but will take time.:headache: :headache:

I could get your phone number and talk to Alicia:rolleyes1 ....all I know is when I told her I feel sorry for her married to you;) ...........she rolled her eyes and laughed.:lmao: :lmao:

I guess I am afraid of going on anything but DCL since three out of three cruises have been getting better and better. :dance3: :yay: :dance3:

Did I tell you I got two $100 vouchers out of United again.:confused3 That is what they get for not giving be my boarding passes on the ship for my transfers.

If I gave you Alicias' cellular number you all would have SO MUCH DIRT on me that ALICIA would no doubt have leverage sufficient to convert her entire wardrobe to Channel and St John suits with my sorrowful blessings as I suspect she'd like.
< wunk >
Yeah, that's spelled with a "U".... and then Alicia would have near unlimited ammunition if I were to properly "connect" you with
SWMBO!

< sobering slow chuckling >

Then again... there are a privilaged hand full of folks who have my cellular number - some who might have met me at a DIS meet for example or perhaps some who have broken bread - er rather - toasted marshmellos with us atthe beach... but you'll NEVER squeeze it outta ME who those folks are! OR if they have my numbers on thier celluar bills! And of course... I would never reveal that Alicia's personal email were ...( I'll PM ya' ). That would amount to potential endless chuckles for folks like YOU!

With Great Power comes Great Responsibility...

You are now one of VERY FEW on the DIS who have Alicia's personal email address. Not that I expect any or many trashy links to be sent her way!

< Wink >

Seriously, on the Sony I did get a square deal (not terriffic) because I did not get an authentic Sony battery and charger - which they really sell for $125 or so. And the Sony battery connects and works better than the jury rigged arrangement I have now. So it was a deal - but not necessarily a tremendous one sided deal. Plus I'm missing everything else aside from the camera itself and the receipt. < woo -hoo >

And on the vouchers....

94-05-25-woohoo.gif

Seriously.... that's cool that ya got $200 in vouchers... and not so cool for the inconvenience of waiting in another line for the boarding passes.

Otherwise... gee ... have I missed anything. Oh... do you suppose I should bring Alicia over to the screen to SHOW her my prior posting of the clothes fitting replies thing? < heh- heh- hee >

OK... time to get some supper. Alicia is cooking something yummy tonite. I think I can guess it from the aroma...

smells-good.gif

oh yeah... i see`what I mised now...

on sailing non-DCL lines... the short reply is I agree with the adage... you generally get what you pay for. And ... it's worth noting that in 2 or so cruises over the past 15 years or so that the Disney Magic is the ONLY cruise line we've repeated on consecutive cruises - and more so to note we even repeated the same SHIP and PORT ROTATION... three times in fact IF you'll count that we booked the 3rd consecutive repaet however it was changed by a hurricane into a 4 day western rotation. So yeah - we really REALLY love cruising Disney. And obviously we're willing to try other lines and deals from time to time. Next month will be the 1st time we're sailing Princess... and the 1st time we would have sailed a ship of this size.

Well.....thruth be known, I did have to cut about 10 seconds out of the full length tune. There were at least 3 'Not family safe' words in the full version.

The camera is Canon SD870 IS (point & shoot). It was set to record one frame per second, the mount is a Bogen/Manfrotto

BG3289.jpg

I mounted it halfway down the verandah glass - it stuck out maybe 12". I didn't use the stabilizer leg (shown in the pic above)

Steph or Chris may have a pic of the mount on canal day.

"awesome mount".....says DH

"and how did you do the time lapse with that camera" (also how often did it take pic's and how many did you end up with in total)
let me throw in a bunch of oooh's, aaaah's and wow's in between those quotes too.

Let's put it this way Kim.........John has over 8 ours of DVD clips which a lot are in RBD at night. ;) :dance3: :dance3:

I can't wait to watch Billy hitting on Tina and Richard being used as the human puppet again. That was so funny. :). John - could you do that one first - pretty please.....

One of the camera's movie modes is 'Time Lapse'. It will take a frame every one or two seconds. It stores them as a movie (avi file) - all done in the camera. It replay's them at 15fps at 640x480.

So it condenses 60 secs of real time into 4 secs when viewed (Math Alert)

from DH
"MAN! that is so cool"
and he says thank you too

We can't wait to see!
What lense did you use the most on your DSLR? After seeing everyones cameras now dh wants more lenses! UGH!!!

DH HATES the cold so, I would think it would be too chilly for him, also!

I don't think it would actually be cold, probably a little cool for swimming but perfect for sight seeing as Oslo and Copenhagen's summers average around 22C/72F with temperatures of 30C/86F not unusual - that's what we average here in New Zealand in the South Island for summer temperatures too.

Hi All

I know that I have been MIA but getting back into reality:sad2: We have been transitioning to our new company at work which has not been fun. Kids have finally gotten back into their school routine but Cherie and I feel like we are Supershuttle running back and forth. Well one of the the good things that came from our being bought by a new company was that I had a chance to cash out a lot of my paid time off without penalty. We have been needing another computer in the house (Madison needed one for school work) so I got a new laptop. I have been waiting to get a new computer so that I could do videos since my other two are just to slow to handle them. I have put together my first video of the cruise (actually a slide show as a movie) so I hope that you enjoy it. I would also like to thank Phil Collins for the music since it was perfect for this and everyones pictures. I would recommend doing it in DVD mode unless you have a really fast internet connection.

Repo Family "New Friends"

Roger, that was fabulous !!
and, I hope the work thing settles down quickly for you.

Waaaaahhh!

You made me cry. I miss all you guys!

You also made me laugh, so thank you!

I loved it so much, you brought me out of lurkdom just to say thanks!

ETA: Look - 11 posts in 4 years!

whoa, whoa, slow down on the posting Linda...:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

One of you nice Pirates asked me to take some pictures of your kids on Monday night August 18th in the Atrium after "The Golden Mickeys" when you didn't have your camera. I have searched for your Disname and e-mail address, which I had written down somewhere, but can't seem to find. If you know who you are, please PM me. I have some pictures to send you. Thanks.

Has the Magic left the shipyards? I don't seem to see her anymore.

That's just awesome Andy!!! Thanks for sharing.

After all the luck I have been wishing for A's and you make me cry!!!:rolleyes1 It was really great and can't express(yes I am speechless even in person) how wonderful the trip and people were!!

Sorry, didn't mean to make you cry. I have some ideas for some other slideshows that will be a little more fun too.

PS I got 100% on my inservice presentation last week!

I just added pictures to smug mug. :yay: Not too hard if I can do it with only a few mistakes. :thumbsup2 I still have to up-load John's pictures from his Memory card from his camcorder yet.:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

You had some great shots! I'm glad that you have a nice shot of Father Mike. We really enjoyed hanging out and talking with him, especially on the verandahs on Canal Day. The only picture I had of him was him leaning forward around the verandah divider.

To Arlene, thanks for posting this. It was fun.

To everybody else who listened to it...I'm sorry.:rotfl:

whoa, whoa, slow down on the posting Linda...:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I'll try to reign her in a little.

Has the Magic left the shipyards? I don't seem to see her anymore.

She left yesterday morning to head back to Port Canaveral.

So, is that technology available to the average person, or do you need to be in the spy business? :confused3
