8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #15 /Life After the PC

I'm guessing we'll be chatting here

I'm ready whenever anyone else is! Long week and going to be a longer weekend.....weather here is overcast and completely gray..kind of like my mood! ;)

Nothing horrible happened today...DD had her first day of school (Her homeschool meets once a week for Art, Music and History) .. so many people asking about the cruise and in telling them all about it..kinda got me down that it's all over! (Silly I know!)

Well crap.

Looks like I have a good chance of joining Monica, K and Kim in the pirate unemployment line.

Hmmm, we are cutting back next year...we aren't raising enough money to do all the work we want to do...let's layoff a fundraiser... :confused3

There are a few jobs on the chopping block for next fiscal year and mine is one of them. It makes sense, I make more $$ than everyone in the development dept. besides the VP, but huh??? I'll know for sure next week. If it's over, it's over Sept. 30.

I'm happy to report that they will be hiring for the two NEW positions I secured funding for. I'm bummed for many reasons, but if I'm gone, this will be the first job where I haven't set some sort of record - that was my personal goal for next year. This year all I did was beat my position's annual goal, with 3 months to spare.

Are we chatting tonight? I could use a few drinking buddies.

Sorry to hear that M. the only thing I can say is kick em in the junk  and as they roll on the floor in angony tell em

I love the "Hallway" statement. :rotfl2:

Hi everyone! I just thought I'd check in since it's been a while. I have been lurking so I do know what's been going on. I've been really busy trying to get our photos sorted and edited and I'm only half done! DD has kept me pretty busy too since she's been sick and not sleeping large chunks of time at once. On top of that, she has cut a molar (First tooth since May!) and has another one coming in, I think.

That breaks my heart! How could she leave her animals? I have never had to evacuate but if I ever did..those little ones will be coming with me.

ITA! The dogs are goin too if something happens...

I'm ready whenever anyone else is! Long week and going to be a longer weekend.....weather here is overcast and completely gray..kind of like my mood! ;)

It's been gray here since we got home! So uncharacteristic for NM!! Apparently we got lots of rain while we were gone... I had a 5 gal bucket sitting out that was full! We also had our trees develop mold of all things (who'da thunk in NM!)

Funny thing... We chose to get married in the fall because it's DH's and my LEAST favorite season. It starts getting too cold to do stuff, but no snow for skiing... and it gets darker and the trees and animals go into hibernation... But we always plan our fall (or late summer) trips too early and we have yet to skip the bad part of fall altogether...

My week home has been less then spectaculer.....

I've been sick (like so many of you) -- luckily it waited until the last day of our post cruise wdw trip to affect me! And one of my brothers told me this week (turns out he found out the day before I left but, didn't want to spoil my trip in any way) that his Lymphoma is back --- he was first diagnoised in 1998.
He came over yesterday to ask me to be his *person in charge of medical decisions*. He told me that he doesn't trust my dh or our mother to actually ever let him just die. ;) They would try to keep you alive forever no matter what the situation! LOL!
I guess our other siblings and our father were knocked out of the running for other reasons. :)
He also knows that I would care about his S/O's wishes.
.
I have the gift of not getting emotional when someone I love is hurt/sick, etc... I bawl like a baby during comercials but, I'm told someone I love is in medical trouble and I'm a rock. Dh on the other hand crumbles. ;)

We do know that wonderful strides have been made in chemo treatments -- last time db came close to dying because of port infections, not the cancer.

I know you will all think good thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

Stephanie

Stephanie...You know you and your family will be in my prayers. I stay strong on the outside when need be......but I cry alot on the inside. Just stay strong for him.

I thought about booking an imaginary suite, so I could have an imaginary concierge, since the only way I could afford that is with imaginary money.

Just don't have imaginary drinks.:rolleyes1

:wave2: All -
Anyone else get any surprises? OK - hopefully I can make chat sometime and talk with you all - will catch up later. Phone's ringing - might be Cheryl! ;)

No but it could be next week!!!;) ;)

Well crap.

Steph,

We'll keep your brother and your family in our prayers. It's great that he knows that he can count on you to be there for him. Please know that your friends will be here for you too if you need anything!

Steph,
We'll keep your brother and family in our prayers:grouphug:
There probably are new treatments now. Hope one of them works for him:hug:

My thoughts and prayers are with both of your familes.

Thank you.

Ohhh Stephanie. I am so sorry. Looks like he has a journey ahead of him.
My parents are soooo extremely organized. They were telling me a while ago that one brother is in charge of theirl money, one is in charge of their assets, my sister is in charge of medical decisions except they chose me, and me alone, to decide when to "Pull the plug". Now, my sister is a Doctor and both brothers are very accomplished- why me to pull the plug I ask. Response? "We know you would actually make the decision where the other 3 would not". Not quite sure how to take that. ;)
I told them it would be sooner vs later and they said "It's up to you, we trust you".
If you ask me that is a strange way to sort things. I thought I was getting pity post since I am the youngest but I kinda got the most serious one.
My siblings and I are very close and we would make every decision together but odd none the less. :confused3

:) What does this say about us? :)

Stephanie thinking of you and your brother, my SiL was diagnosed with Leukemia 3 weeks before our trip she is still in hospital and the 1st lot of chemo didn't work she has just finished the second and our fingers are crossed we also heard today that a bone marrow match has been found so as long as this chemo has done the job things are looking up for her.

To all in Ike's path we are thinking of you across the pond

Thank you and we will be adding your SIL to our prayers!

So I am not working snack bar tonight (football season) but instead will be "volunteering" my time to take pictures again. Although I did volunteer to chaperone the kids Study Abroad program this April 9 - 21, 2009. Of course, Mrs. Wilson (Spanish Teacher) turned me down flat. The one thing I really want to do and I get turned down. Oh well, I guess I've been traveling too much but darn it - the kids are going to Madrid, Barcelona, Carcassonne, Provence, Avignon, Nice, French Rivera, Pisa, Florence, Assisi, Rome & THE SISTENE CHAPEL! along with St Peter's Basilica... AND I CAN'T GO!!! :sad2: And I got decent lenses this time.

That does it - I'm just going to have to go on another cruise when she goes. I can't have my child be a more seasoned traveler than I am. :rotfl2:

Doesn't this teacher know what a seasoned traveller you are?? And what an asset you would be to the trip?? :confused3 I could tell her. :)

Well crap.

Looks like I have a good chance of joining Monica, K and Kim in the pirate unemployment line.

pixiedust: and prayers coming your way!

Oh Steph, that sucks. But it is so great that you can be there for your brother. I'm sure that means a lot to him.

To me the funniest thing is that Diane wanted an imaginary Cat 6 on the imaginary cruise. But the imaginary Cat 6's on the imaginary cruise were imaginarily sold out. So she had to book an imaginary Cat 5. :confused3

We did an imaginary Cat.7

Just a quick thank you to all the people who gave FE gifts! We enjoyed all of them--listened to the CDs, ate the candy, wrote with the pens, arranged the magnets, and left notes on the dry erase board (actually, we even got notes from people we didn't know on the dry erase board. We don't know who smileman is, but apparently he's evil.)

One of the most handy, however, was the pocket watch. I don't know why DCL thinks that one propeller clock is sufficient for the whole cabin, but it was inevitably buried on the desk under the mounds of stuff we accumulated daily, so to have the watch on the little table by us was wonderful! I even saw a number of kids running around with them--when we went to see Wall E in the Buena Vista, there were a group of them happily eating all manner of junk food. When they finished, there was a brisk debate over who was going to throw out the trash. Finally, the youngest one (who was losing,) in desperation, pulled out his watch and said "OK, how 'bout this: Whoever doesn't have a pocket watch has to throw it out. That's fair!"

It was a great cruise, despite some glitches with our servers, and I'm sorry I didn't meet more people, but I totally suck at mingling.

Looking forward to the next cruise!

We likely won't get to cruise summer 2010. We are scheduled to be homeless that summer. I really wish DCL would get off the every-three-years cycle, since that's when we move.

Hey RadioCrash! Weren't you gonna start a thread??

Love the banner!!!

That is great ... I almost spilled my coffee all over the keyboard.. love the logo for our dummy cruise..

I LOVE it!!! Great Banner!!!!

Ha I love the banner!!! That would be a great one for the Cartegena, Aruba, CC cruise! ;)

So true!!! I'm a cat. 5 gty so I have to wait till some imaginary rooms open up or I'll be in the imaginary lifeboats!

As for 2010, I know for a fact that we will not be dishing out the kind of money we did for the TOAL, between the cruise, flights, DL, bahama mamas....it really added up to a LOT of money for us. Guess I'll wait & see what kind of prices they are offering, but I'm not hopeful!

Steph,

Woo-hoo!

Party in M's suite!

We did an imaginary Cat.7

C'mon over http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1951490

Ok this is so wrong.
They are interviewing evacuees that came here from Houston/Galveston. This woman in a large SUV said "I left my animals at home and now I am so glad I did since the storm surge is even higher than expected". :sad2: WTH is that supposed to mean? Those poor animals were left to fend for themselves. I can tell you with complete certainty that there is no way my husband would ever leave the animals. I think he would leave me before them.
OK- vent over!
I was glad to see all the shelters here taking animals.

 That is so wrong:sad2:
Won't the humane society have something to say about that:confused3

OK - you are all freakishly deluded - but then why did I enjoy it so much? ;)

OK - that cements it - I am going sailing again with this  bunch. See you on the new cruise! ;)
Definitely want to cruise with this bunch again:thumbsup2
Probably won't be able to do an August cruise again though since DS has band camp in August.

I am going scrapbooking tonight at my friends store and unpacked all my wonderful scrap exchange bags from the cruise. Here's a quick photo of all the treasures I got .......and it does not even come close to doing it justice, as every one of these envelopes/bags is filled with lots of fun embellishments that match the theme that person had.
Thanks again scrapbooking friends! I can't wait to start my album....(which sadly won't be tonight since I have not printed my photo's yet)
That was so much fun:goodvibes
I'm glad I'm not the only one that hasn't started her scrapbook yet;)
Now I have to find a good scrapbook book (or books:laughing: ) to fit everything all in.

Well crap.

Sorry to hear this M:guilty:
Hope they decide not to cut your position.

The Patent and Trademark Office is hiring if anyone is interested:rolleyes1
Also I think I heard that the Trademark Office hires those with non-science degrees:confused3
If anyone gets desperate:confused3

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm out of practice with the mingling too:laughing:

PS: If you are a woman and are still reading this; it only goes to show that women never listen!!!

OK... it's time for a nice collective ... Sarcastic GROAN!

< Wink >[/center]

GROAN:rolleyes:

Heading on over:thumbsup2

in my paper sorting yesterday I ran across a few notes I jotted down from the Food & Bev Q & A. I found them interesting:
There are 159 servers on board and 6 dining attendants

46 nationalities for the crew with the largest population being Phillipino

They make 4,000 chocolate chip cookies each day.....yes....DAY! And he made a point in telling us there were only around 600 kids on board so obviously the adults like them! LOL

They made 3500 chicken dinner every day

Pastry & Bakery works 24 hours a day

The food garbage is ground up and dropped under the propeller at sea (minimum of 12 miles out) Talk about Chum!

The 15 day menu was planned & ordered 8 months in advance

Due to very strict regulations on where they get their food products, the food picked up & put on board in Acapulco was trucked from California and the food picked up and put on board in Aruba was flown in from Florida

All Fish is frozen

Most popular items based on weight:
Lobster
Tenderloin
Chicken

as of the day of the talk they had used:
14,000 lbs of chicken
6,000 lbs of watermelon
3,000 lbs of tenderloin
430 gallons of vanilla softserve
320 gallons of choc softserve
1500 bottles of wine

They do alot of recycling onboard and the money received for it in Port Canaveral goes to the crew for recreation items

just thought I'd pass it on for anybody interested. We always love going to that talk to hear about it.

Thanks for posting this Jill. Very interesting...especially the part about the chum!

Were you looking for a picture of the full moon? Here's one:

There are a couple of others in the pictures that I posted on the photo sharing site. It's actually from the first Sea Day - Aug 18th, not embarkation day. But it's a pretty good picture, and there are a few others. These were actually taken by Betsy (Bets19), but I pirated her memory cards and pictures at the airport before she left! Hope this helps.

Hi everyone!

It's a rainy day here. DD and I are going to the local Holliday Inn for her Ensemble "Bonding" sleepover at 3 PM. I got suckered into chaperoning, so this should be an adventure. From 3PM till 10AM tomorrow morning! Right now I doing wash and DISing! Hey I'm waiting for my loads to be done!

I got a nice surprise from Verizon Wireless. Got my cell bill and for 15 minutes from Mexico and Aruba my roaming was only $14.98! I was shocked. Thought it would be double that if not more. Not if only the next Visa bill was that nice!:lmao:

Eargerly waiting for the 2010 info to come out, so I can ponder it.

They just settled our contract at work. It was carry us till 11/30/08! Cause it took the idiots 4 yrs to settle it. Anyways, they are now starting to negoate (sp?) the next one, so hoping for a 20 and out. I'll have 20 next Aug. So maybe in 2010 I could be retired! :lmao: Well, I'd look for another job, just something fun and low stress! Do those jobs exist?

Carolyn, hope your strike doesn't last too long.

Can anyone help me I'm unsure how to add pics to the smugmug site, do I have to join if so where and how?
Thanks Lynn

The photo is great! Thanks so much for posting it. I will look at the others on the sharing site.

per verison bill for roaming was $100 not bad considering I called the kids all the time as DH said.. only from Mexico and Aruba.. but they are woth it and so is my peace of mind..

Tina.. retired???? wow.. 20 years that is great.. DH has 28 years but we can't aford to retire - not with the cost of college and healthcare..

2010 is the year for us to cruise again we have done every 2 years since 1998.. so bring on the iternieries and low cost..:lmao: i am spoiled by the TOAL..I wanna another 15 day cruise..
