8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #13

This time next week we will be at DL

While we were at WDW on a trip we had planned before grabbing a cabin on the TOAL, my dog "Disney" was taken sick....to the vet and then on to 5 days at the emergency hospital. After many $$$ tests she is improving. In addition to worrying about her and giving her meds, I have been trying to get my room ready at school. This will be my 34th year in 4th grade, my fourth graders always laugh about that...Today I was at school finishing plans, hard to do without a schedule or classlist... but I team teach with my best friend. She does the literacy and I teach Math, Science and DE history. We usually share 58 to 60 students.

After writing a note on the board for the students and parents for "Meet the Teacher Night" and putting notes on the world map, I stepped in the hallway and set off the school alarm.... They had locked me in. Waited for the police... no one came.. so I drove home (5 minutes)and tried to call principal.... couldn't get her so I tried the secretary - she called my principal on her cell and left a message. Drove back to school - listened and didn't hear the alarm - waited and waited - no one showed up....


Now I'm trying to finish up the 20 scrapbooking kits and pack my carry on.... I plan to RELAX when we finally board the ship... But since this is my first cruise I'll probably be so busy I'll never rest.

OK - brain is still fuzzy and the girls are clamoring for pool time. As if I had time. Today was hot - it was 84 degrees at 9 am this morning and 91 degrees at one. Don't know what it is now as I went to bed but when my son tried to send the fur kids out, they looked at him went out and as soon as he left the kitchen - they came running back in. It was actually because who can blame them? Its friggin hot out there.

I cannot wait to enjoy your HOT 84 and 91 degree days!!! We haven't been under 100 in a long time.

Anyone know if you travel with regular film if you should put it in carry on or pack it? I know it has changed since they've made the xray machines and such stronger... I just bought some of those underwater cameras and don't want them to get ruined before we use them.

Definitely carry them on. The scanners for the checked luggage will cloud the film. They say the scanners for the carryons won't cause a problem unless you put the film through a bunch of times.


Time for me is NOT going slow! I am insanely busy and the days are flying by. I have a lot I'm trying to get handled at work before I go, lots of TOAL stuff still to do, DS9 is at "Nature Camp" this week which is about 20 minutes from my office - it is from 1pm-4pm so I am driving back and forth so I can get some work done during it, and I would really like to get some of the photos from Grandma's birthday printed or put on a CD for her before we go so she doesn't have to wait until September to see them!

I had a nice surprise this evening - DS9's teacher for next year called us to let us know he will be in her class. We arranged to stop by and "meet" her (he does know who she is already) and bring his school supplies in one morning next week. I am so relieved to have this settled - we were concerned we wouldn't find out until his first day of school (5 days after the first day for everyone else). She sounded really nice on the phone. The principle had told me last spring that they "might" be able to tell us right before we left. I had sent an email explaining the whole thing and requested that if we weren't able to contact the teacher ahead of time that he let the new teacher know. I guess they just assigned DS9 today and the principle gave her the email - she pushed a bit and got permission to contact us (she did ask we not tell any of the other school families so they don't get tons of parents trying to find out early!)

DH is home (yay!) from his trip and we got the box ready to UPS to HoJo tomorrow. It weighs 30 pounds!!! DH says that it is worth the $22 to ship it since it is 30 lbs he won't have to lug around There are 4 bottles of wine (VERY well packaged) all our FE gifts and secret mickey gifts. The wine is wrapped in mulitple layers of bubble wrap and packed into a box - that box is inside a plastic bag and in a larger box with all the other stuff.

DH is used to packing very fragile glassware as part of his eBay hobby, so this was right up his alley. He also had a lot of incentive since he lost $30 of alcohol today coming back from his trip! He had 2 bottles he picked up in Mexico and his co-worker packed them into his carryon. They didn't have bubblewrap or anything with them, so the coworker wrapped them in his clothes and put them in the center of the suitcase. No idea what Continental managed to do to the suitcase, but it is actually ripped open and the 2 bottles were shattered - not just broken, shattered into tiny pieces including the neck which is usually pretty strong. (1 bottle for the coworker survived) I guess his suitcase had an interesting smell (Rum and Tequila).

Yikes! We finally broke our record streak of 90+ days here in Denver at 24. The most in recorded history. Today's high was about 77, but yet I heard people complain about the "humidity". They have no idea what humidity is.

This reminds me, we all know that we'll be eating foods that we would otherwise not eat (Mickey Rice Krispy Treats dipped in Chocolate! etc.)

However, what food are you sick of that you refuse to eat on the TOAL? My list includes:

1. Oatmeal
2. Salmon
3. Oatmeal
4. Canned Tuna
5. Oatmeal
6. Low Fat Cottage Cheese,
7. Oatmeal
8. Raw Carrots and Celery! AND
9. Oatmeal

All of the above and prunes!!!!!

Just FYI - I found out last month that there is no Cinnabon at MCO at all.

Do we really need one after eating non stop for 15 days.

Yum!! That looked so good, but we aren't going to DCA, just DL .

The nachos are from White Water Snacks which is the poolside snack place in the Grand Californian. Anyone can go there. It's actually a nice quietl little lunch spot (well they serve breakfast and dinner too). The prices are reasonable and the portions are big. We eat there often.

For those of you planning on booking on board and changing your date later I saw this at the top of the page:

NEW CANCELLATION POLICY - Effective 8/31/08

If you need to cancel your cruise and are within the penalty period for doing so, Disney Cruise Line will no longer allow you to change the date. You will be required to cancel your existing cruise and absorb whatever penalties are in effect and rebook the new date.

These are rewards earned by charging on a Disney Visa. You earn reward dollars which can be used in the parks, on the ship and disney shopping (i think)

Love tuna though.... I'm going to stupid and bring a couple cans with an opener as i don't trust Disney to make it just w/mayo like i want it...

We only eat ours with just mayo too and I recall the tuna sandwiches from room services being made that way. DSs had those often on our last cruise but that was three years ago so maybe they've changed. Hope not!

We have tried to hand it to them before, but they made us put it through the xray... It doesn't hurt to ask when you get there though!

One thing to remember once you are onboard if you use the film is to leave what you don't need in your safe in your room. Every time you get off and back on the ship your bags will go through the xray machine. It is okay for a few times but I wouldn't recommend storing all of your unused or used film in your camera bag for multiple exposure to the machine...just to be safe.

I actually enjoy all the foods on my list, it's just that I've been eating them way too much for the past four months! Oatmeal every morning; salmon two or three nights a week; and tuna, cottage cheese and carrots & an apple for lunch most days. I'm ready for something more exciting!

NOT that you are complaining about anyone's cooking, right?
