My MIL has been known to run through her husband's name, both sons, 3 grandchildren, and sometimes a dog or 2 (usually deceased) before settling on a name to say.

What's really fun is when she get my name and SILs name mixed up...and sometimes throws in the name of BIL's first fiance.

Funny, my GM still does this...my cousins are Jason, Jared, Jennie and Justin and my brother Jeff and my uncle Jerry.....picnics were fun to watch...she would be stammering thru ...Jas, ah, Jared, umm...Jen, Jeff, Justin....ah...JERRY!

Tomorrow is going to be a long day.
The investigators will finally be done (we think) with my friend's house and we're going to go in salvage what we can. From what we've heard, it's an ugly scene...but we want to remove any "icky" trace of the victim before her family goes in.
I am so not looking forward to this at all. Duh...another idiot remark. Who would be?
DD Jordan wants to go because she's thought of a career in forensics. This might be just what she needs to see to decide. I'm told the family pets are still in the house.

I can't even imagine! Everyone wil be in our prayers!

I love pens too. I think I'm a stationery nut! I'm never happier than when I have cool or fun office supplies.
I have a rather fabulous Winnie the Pooh pen that has feathers and lights up when you write (given to me by a work mate). I always think it gives a certain air of professionalism in meetings

And then I also have a rather nice double ended hi-lighter - perfect for travel so that lives in my toiletry kit.

I told dh *It's a girl thing*.

Nowadays I get pretty extreme with meat preparation - the real problem if stuff is cooked propertly is contamination after the fact.

So basically as soon as the meat is put on the grill, every utensil and plate that I use before the food is cooked gets thrown into the dishwasher, packaging is tossed and the surface area cleaned, and I wash my hands, etc. If I use a spatula to turn the burgers, I'll clean them (or if BBQ hold it over the hottest part of the heat) after the first turning to make sure it's cleaned from the previous contact with raw meat.

I'm even more careful with chicken (salmonella can be just as unpleasant as E.Coli).

It does make for extra dishes and trash, but I think it makes a difference.

This is how dh & I cook --- I spent a week in the hospital 14yrs ago because of bacterial infection.... I'm not ever taking achance again!!!! The Dr thought I probably got it from a resturant.

What is up with banks? Before our last WDW trip I took a few $20s to the teller so I could break them into smaller bills for tips. The teller's response? "I don't have any fives." Ummm, this is a bank, right? Ya don't have any $5 in that big ol' walk in safe behind you??? "No." I really didn't know what to do with that information.

That is WIERD!!!! LOL! A Bank with no 5's??????

Talking about packing....
I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to get the girls all unpacked from camp on Friday afternoon, wash stuff and repack them to leave bright and early Sunday morning. I'm hoping they can use different suitcases for camp, so I can start packing some stuff ahead of time.

My family too! I wake up at 2-3 am and take the food out for the next days dinner. I figure its cooler in the night time than the day time. But I do clean counters vigerously.. And yes I still eat cake batter with eggs in them. I know, I know....

I may be wrong but they need to account for baggage weights of certain sizes because they load the luggage area of each plane by weight. Back to physics...4 bags of 60lbs in the front of the plane and 4 bags of 30 lbs in the back of the plane means the front is heavier. They need to balance 2 bags of each for example to make sure that each luggage zone is even and the plane can handle it. If you have ever been on a small propeller plane and seen the flight attendant walk up the aisle counting the people, she/he is doing a weight calculation - to make sure the pilots are comfortable with the balance of the aircraft. I've been on small planes where they told me I could sit "in this seat, that seat or this one, but nothing behind row 4 and not on the OTHER side of the aisle!"

Unfortunately, there was a plane crash a few years ago that was the result of overloading a luggage area on a small commuter plane; the plane took off, only to climb straight up and then crash. That was a tiny 19 seater and it was also attributed to a maintenance issue...those ground crews usually know what they are doing - even though they all look like Samsonite luggage testers, throwing bags around in attempts to see what they can break.

Now you know I'm gonna have somethin' ta say 'bout this ... but as I wuz skimmin' forward to accumulate a few multi-quotes in an effort to reduce my posting fluff a bit ....I saw these related replies:

Seriously, I figure it's the arbitrary standard they set to gain a uniform standard and limit. Plus ... my GUESS... is their baggage handlers (human and mechanical) need to have each item be of nominally uniform MAXIMUM weight. And so - balance of aircraft is not the main thing... as I auume they weigh each cargo pallet to achieve some basic sembelance of BALANCE onthe aircraft.

Now on smaller aircraft - balance of the aircraft is a serious issue - and often involves asking PASSENGERS to relocate on the aircraft!​

I had an airline that changed weight limits while I was travelling (e.g. 60 lbs out and 50 lbs on return). No advertisement/advisement of this. My case came in at 50.2 lbs and they wanted to charge me more $$.

I didn't repack or pay, but did spend 10 minutes convincing them of the error of their ways!

Counselor, I'd say since they changed policy on ya in MID-travel .... and there were insufficent warnings .... you had a good case for shifting the burdon of proof upon thier check in staff - and seeing as you probably had sufficient time to pursue your POV at leisure .... you could afford to hold your ground and NOT reshuffle your bags contents to accomidate thier new weight rules. I can can see how it made for a good case to take up.​

Re: Baggage - I don't think so on regular commercial flights....or they'd move passengers around too (which I have seen on some puddle jumpers - At Negril (Jamaica) they have a set of scales that passengers have to get on, but the planes sometime only hold 6 passengers).

I used to live by Heathrow airport (London), there were always baggage handlers in the local pubs - they commented that they haven't yet found a suitcase that can withstand being run over by a fork lift

IMO DCL would not put itself in the postion of liabilty if there was any chance of a DCL passenger getting kiddnapped. Having a few friends that are in Law Enforcement in large cities in Columbia, I asked if there were issues of safety for cruise passengers. One agent told me there was more likley the risk of food and water contamination than being a victim of crime. He recommends staying with groups. As with any excursions outside your comfort zone, keep aware of your surroundings, if you get that feeling that maybe you shouldn't go down that road or alley, Don't.
Tell your children about the dangers of drinking unsafe water and not to take any food that you have not checked.
While we are all on vacation, we should enjoy it, but not loose sight of where we are. IMO only.

Does this warning apply for passing any cabins with unually WILD Door decorations too? Sometimes I get "THAT FEELING" about passing someones' cabin door that has not only "OUTDONE" my whimpy cabin door decorations - but it makes my paltry door decor look simply so 70s .... if ya kno what I mean?

And this image ABOVE was NOT the most elaborate door offour last cruise - but certainly it was representative of a NICE one - not to neglect mentioning the elaborate FE!!!​

I've tried to make it clear that the FE exchange should be as TRULY "hassle free" as possible . . . believe me, what people give out varies widely and no one keeps track of it, especially with so many participants. This should be fun, not a competition . . .

I too must chime in here....

The first time I joined the FIsh Extender thing I had only partial realization as to WHAT to expect. So I brought little to share. I thought there were so many DIS folks on the ship - AND - because I happened to have a lot of toys and maybe suitable gizmos for the kids - I limited my contribution to kids gifts for the FE. And I was sort of amazed in the end with the fun gizmos contributed. As such, I urge everyone to join the fun - and not worry much as to if they contribute anything AT ALL! And anything ya bring - that will be FINE!

I myself just worry about how long it would have taken to distribute to everyone if not for the fact I enlisted the help of a TASK FORCE in doing my FE things!

I ordered mine online from DickBlick.com. It was $6.99 for 5 sheets, which is still cheaper than what I have seen in the stores. The shipping is a little steep but I added other things so it wasn't too bad.

We always ate raw hamburger as kids. Yum with onions and garlic. Wouldn't do it today though. I am still guilty of leaving the meat on the counter in the morning, but my Mom puts it in the fridge once it is mostly thawed. I left a lemon meringue pie out yesterday and you can bet I am still going to eat it.

I have had food poisoning twice. Once from a local sandwich shop and once for the McD's at the Orlando Airport. No fun.

My sister called me by her daughter's name last night. And when we get together with DH family and everyone is talking it is hard to know if they are talking to Terri, Cary or Gary.
