Wow that looks like a LOT of work, but it's greatly appreciated!

Hi all busy day today. This was one of the few days that Cherie and I were both off together before we leave next month. First I got word that my DF was back in the hospital with rule out pneumonia and DM was not well either. They are both OK, just added to our running. We headed out and ended up at DTD having lunch at ESPN Zone. We walked around the hotels to check out the shops and a trip to Disney Store. Found some cool trinkets that will be prizes for the Treasure hunt. We also had to get a couple of Mouseketeer hats and a couple of other things. Did not get to go into the parks but the funny thing was it was not very crowed in DTD at all I asked a few CMs and they said it has been like that this summer. Again, I don't know what it was like in the parks.

Well from DTD we headed off to my parents house which is about 10 miles from the port. We had to kill a few minutes so we swung by the DT to get a copy of the menus. I have posted them on the planning board. I talked to a couple of the waiters and again they told me that it would be no problem for 30-40 people for dinner.

Finally got home a couple of minutes ago and feel like I have been at DL all day. Dogs are barken and didn't even walk that much today.

Sorry DF & DM are not well. Hope they are both better soon!

Thanks for the birthday wishes for Megan. She has not managed to wake up yet. I will show her all her good wishes.
It is very hard for me to not get emotional. At this time 12 years ago I was carefully watching every person coming in my hospital room waiting for them to tell me she did not make it.

this Thank You! I totally agree! This group of people are some of the nicest people I have virtually met! I was also lucky enough to meet a couple at Mary Ann's get-together recently... wish I could have stayed longer. As a first time cruiser I am so excited but also glad that I met everyone & got a lot of cool info so that I can truly enjoy my cruise. I'm not a regular poster (I jump in when I can), but I always have felt comfortable putting in my 2 cents worth whenever I could. The gentle ribbing & good natureness of this group is amazing. It's nice to know that in these times that there are people like you around... I know I'll feel comfortable going up to fellow DISers & saying Hi as soon as I hit California soil (not to long now!!!). It amazes me how much so many people have gone out of their way to make this trip so memorable. I only wish I could have contributed more... but I did what I could & everyone is comfortable with that...AMAZING! Well... gone on long enough... Thanks to all & see ya real soon!!!

I just like to remind everyone there are many, many others doing less tangible jobs (ie: not as easy to take pictures or generate excitement) for example, getting busses, matching SM, organizing dining, or excursions, diligently copying the important stuff from here to thepiratezone forum for easy reference, etc... who also deserve our thanks. We all contribute in the ways we can best.

Okay. I haven't said ANYTHING to anyone about this until now.
Anything that I have said was in response to PM's.
But....I have to say this.

There are a lot of people who aren't participating in the group activities for a LOT of different reasons, but yet we post here.....for several reasons.
For one, I didn't think that it was a requirement to be in all of the group activities in order to post and get to know people. If it IS a requirement, then I guess this will be my last post.

The Moms and I are not participating in any of the group activities.
For one thing, this is OUR vacation. Each of us has reasons for wanting to get away from it all and not have to watch the clock and be at certain places at certain times. A couple of us have some really seriously ill family members and aren't even sure if we'll be able to cruise at all.
So it really wouldn't be fair to sign up for gifts and then not even be on the cruise to deliver them. And if those Moms ARE lucky enough to go on the cruise, all we want to do is sit and CHILL. Speaking for myself only, I really, really want to meet all of the people I've met here, and to be able to have a good time talking to everyone in person. I refuse to be made to feel like I can't do that if I am not participating in the group activities.

For some people, this is a big trip for them and their families, and they have chosen to spend that time with their families and not with the group.

For some people, they can't afford to participate in some of the group things.

So there are a lot of personal reasons that some of us aren't.

BUT....each and every person who has posted recently (in my defense it seems) HAS posted rather regularly. Or at least as much as they can, and still go to work every day and take care of their homes and their families.

The DIS is wonderful. It means a lot to me. BUT...it is not my life. Nor is it a lot of people's lives. Just because some people can't post during the day when they are at work, and therefore don't post as often, that doesn't mean that they are not a part of this group.


When I said to Kristina that it wasn't funny to joke about being captured by guerillas or whatever it was, I WAS dead serious. I honestly have been in that postition and thought I was going to die and never see my daughter again and worse, I thought I'd be left to die in a jungle in Guatemala and my parents and daughter would never even KNOW what had happened to me.
The part about "who wants to go to Cartegena with me" WAS a feeble attempt at making my post a little lighter than it was.
And some people felt bad that I was hurt. I don't think that's such a bad thing....I think that's part of what makes the DIS family so wonderful.

Lastly.....and yes....out in the open, and not in PM's....because I want to put this to rest and move on.......
When I saw the gorillas in the sigs.......call me a wimp, call me anything you want to....hate me, talk about me behind my back....I don't care....well, okay, I DO care, but I can't stop you (or anyone) but.....when I saw the gorillas....I cried. I took it as a personal attack.
It made me particularly sad when I saw that people who I thought were new friends had banded together to make a joke about me.

So anyway......like I said, if I have to add myself to the lists for the group activities in order to post here, then I guess this is my last post.

If someone can tell me that it's okay to be here and NOT be listed, then I will stay. Not begging....or fishing......I just want some clarification of the "rules" of posting.

This experience, the cruise and before, is supposed to be FUN, and usually is. You are definitely part of the group as far as I am concerned, regardless of what you choose to do or list. Many of us here on this thread have become very close, and I consider you one of those . However, I realize that it is also important that those of us who have been on the thread for a long time don't exclude newcomers. It's a tricky balance and one I think we all have been trying to get right. Love to all

Above all else..remember this is YOUR cruise...you should feel free to do as little or as much as you want. What has been put together by everyone (and a HUGE thank you! for that) is only for fun and only you can decide what you want and can take part in. No one is in "charge" of the group. I have both met people in person and in cyberspace that I am looking forward to spending time with on the cruise. Again...this is YOUR cruise and you get to choose how and who you spend your time with.

well said! Please don't go! I know I don't post here much, but I do read everything and enjoy and appreciate your posts.

I have been staying out, but will say this: if the rules have changed I would also like to know. We were assured at the beginning - and all along - that we were free to post as little or as much as we wanted/could and that we could take part as little or as much as we wanted/could...and still feel a part of this group! Some comments have been made by individuals along the way about lurking or drive by postings.....I have been trying to ignore those as they are few and far between.

the ugliness the past few days and the whole "gorilla" thing is just ridiculous and immature. I can understand the initial comment, but once it was apparent that some found it hurtful and distasteful, it should have been withdrawn and certainly not take further. Let's keep this a group that all feel welcome to participate in, please!!!

The great thing about this cruise is that we have chosen to do the group activities that appeal to us. But our focus for this trip will be on spending time as a family.

I lost Esteri's quote, but she brings up a great point that there are a LOT of people working on a lot of things. Every single person who took the time to post on this thread (and its many incantations) has helped to create our community and the group that we've become. Thank you to one and all who have shared with us in any way, through posting or otherwise!
