And below... here are a few pictures from this mornings' swim meet. Julianna was quite proud of coming in 2nd in one of her swim race heats. I think it was for the breast stroke.

And below ... guess who we ran into at our swim meet? None other than GoofyontheHiSeas family - with the older daughter (Madison) swimming in her races. Here's the younger daughter Austin chillin' with Kalea in our community pool where the swim meet was held:

Kind of weird seeing your daughters photo from this morning while at work. I told Cherie this morning to keep an eye out for you. Wow, another DIS meet and I missed it. :sad2:

This is the same situation as my kids. They are not counted as absent until they actually show up for school. DH had meetings with both principals back in January and got their blessing to go (in writing - LOL). My kids will both miss the first ten days of school but since they are both straight A students neither principal gave me any grief. They both promised me kids would be assigned classes and not just crammed in somewhere after the fact (they are both in gifted classes) and I will go to back to school night to meet the teachers and tell them the deal. I debated back and forth on them missing two weeks but in the end I figured with DD starting high school in 2009 we wouldnt be able to do this (thankfully our tortola cruise gets back 2 days before school starts) and we might as well do it while we can.
Well our youngest are good students also (son in GT, etc.) so that might have helped the principal be so easygoing about this- he knew they weren't students who would be struggling when we got back.
However, our oldest IS starting highschool this upcoming year...... and we're still taking our ST. hehe

BIP- It is NOT leftup to the principal. It is at least TX law that kids are not considered enrolled until they show up the 1st day.
Well I didn't know that.
It IS left up to the principal if you go during the year/end of year though- they make the decision on whether it's counted as excused or unexcused absence and so far (at several schools, 2 different towns) it's been our experience that they basically leave it up to the teachers if they are willing to be cooperative with homework/etc. However, even if they aren't considered enrolled until they show up- it's STILL up to the principal whether they have a class already ready and waiting for them when they get there. For instance like the principal said he'd ghost the kids into classes so they wouldn't just be squeezed in somewhere when we returned. And I was worried because THIS principal hasn't been very cooperative in the past (about other things- for instance my son was going to 1st grade here- we moved down a few blocks on the same street but on the other side and it was the cut off street and he refused to let him continue the rest of the year out at that school- had to go to the other elementary. Then a few years later when we moved again and should be going back to THIS elementary- THAT OTHER principal was more cooperative and let my younger two finish the year at that school before going back to this school. KWIM? In other words he wasn't as cooperative as I'd hoped in the past- so I was happy that he was being cooperative about the kids missing school, ghosting them into classes -especially hand picked so my son wouldn't be in the class with those boys...... or a class full of boys in general LOL /etc.)

But it's good to know that part of what he was being "cooperative" about really wasn't left up to him- like you said. that's really good info to know... in case he becomes uncooperative again. hehe

That's interesting.... I have a friend that had to cancel a trip to WDW because Arlington moved their start date up and they already had a trip booked -- almost a year in advanced so her dh could get the time off work! The principal of their elementary school told her that if her dd missed the first 3 days of 1st grade it was an automatic failure! I was so angry for her!

This was a few years ago.
ugh that stinks!
Yeah I've had my experiences with principals around here and they really do leave it up to principals. It may be different in some places but here- that's how it works. I've even talked to superintendents who flat out word for word said they leave it up to the principal..... things like missing days for vacations, finishing a year at that school if you moved slightly out of that school's area, etc. Smaller town thing, I think. LOL

Found this thread on the HoJo website. It discusses nearby grocery stores and also talks about ordering online. At least one poster has ordered and delivered to the hotel before.
http://www.hojoanaheim.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=35

So I'm pretty sure the online stores will deliver to various hotels. It would probably be a good idea to call your particular hotel to check on how they would handle delivery if you haven't checked in yet, or are not in your room.
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out. I need to see if any stores are close enough to walk to!

AND ON ANOTHER NOTE.
It's official....... I'm getting anxious about the cruise/prepared for school/etc. Anytime it invades my dreams- then I know it's on my mind more than I think and I'm just in denial or something.

I had a dream last night- it was awesome...... I had a dream that I was checking for the stuff from Esteri (ps I only ordered black shirt for DH and white dress/coverup for me) and I found a few boxes instead of one! I got excited (who doesn't get excited to get boxes you didn't expect?) and I started opening them and OHMYGOODNESS it was door magnets and a banner for our verandah and I was all like ohmygosh she is the nicest person in the world! (I won't say who it was in my dream that made these and sent them to me) And I remember in the dream just going thru them all thinking these are so awesome and a rush of relief that I don't have to worry about the door magnets and/or banner anymore or not having those things at all when everyone else does, etc. etc. And then I woke up all happy.........

until I realized it was a dream and not real.
:sad2: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

hey folks!

while I got out of work at a reasonable hour last night, I passed out an missed the chat! Any topics of interest?

Also was wondering if we have a date / time for a group photo of the DISers on the boat?

But it's good to know that part of what he was being "cooperative" about really wasn't left up to him- like you said. that's really good info to know... in case he becomes uncooperative again. [/B]

Yes, My DH went and talked to cranky principal and she tried to tell him how terrible it was and how Miranda would hopefully be able to recover etc. But, it would probably be ok. Whatever crankhead.
This is a kid that in 3 years of school has never missed a single day and has never made a grade below 96. I think she will be just fine missing the 1st week of school. :sad2:
In contrast, oldest DD will be missing the 1st week of Middle School (1st year in MS too) and she has documented social issues and they said "great" we will do whatever we can to help her before she leaves and when she gets back!

    I had a package on my front step

And inside I found t-******. they look great! Thanks again Esteri and packing crew!

I work in a school office, and this was our first week of school (year round). We don't mark anyone absent the first 3 days of school, but after that we start dropping kids, that we call after phone messages have not been . Getting prepared for and that first week of school can be crazy, and realize that your children are just a couple in a vast of hundreds. You may want to email or call(leave a message on the attendance line if you can) and remind the office that you are going out of town and that you had discussed this with the principal prior to the school year ending. That way there are no surprises coming home.

Very good idea. I will be going to back to school night to talk to each teacher personally but will also email the student affairs office with a copy of the principals approval so they are aware of the situtation.

OK, so really jealous of all of you receiving your t's. Ours are going (hopefully) to DLH, so I'm panicking they might not be there & if they are, looks like we'll have to pay to get them?!?

Started some packing & am worrying about getting it all in & under the weight limit.

Busy day today, Lauren had her first aerobic gymnastic competition this morning & won gold! I'll post a photo when I've uploaded them. Unfortunately it was a very early start (out the house by 0630) so off for some much needed shut eye

Wow everyone is getting their packages today.:thumbsup2
Has anyone who had the unfortunate honor having the last mailings for the stimulus checks, gotten their checks yet??? We got a notice Wed that they were coming.Just curious.

So far...... (knock on wood) my kids have never missed a day of school except for a few here and there for disney vacations. We've been very fortunate that they apparently worked thru all the illnesses kids get- thru the younger years before starting school, get injuries that require stitches or casts/etc. either before school started or it happens on Friday night (which isn't great if you happen to dislike ER's as much as I do- but helps to not interfere with school!) or happens during the summer or happens during Christmas break. That just now dawned on me. LOL they've missed a class here and there, when necessary (like when my son had to have an appt concerning his cast/pins in his arm and it was so far away there was no way around him missing last class of the day to make it to that surgeons office during his office hours- stuff like that) but as far as absences... only for vacations and SO FAR all excused absences. Never even tardy either! LOL
Oldest two always A students (son is like you said- nothing below 96 or so) and youngest A or high B student... (she's just as bright as my other children- she's just not as motivated to make higher grades... doesn't really care what grade she gets LOL) so I guess we're lucky with that too that taking days off for vacation doesn't cause them problems in school but like I said- we've always gone end of year or a day or two with a holiday break- so they aren't doing much then anyway. Although our oldest is going into highschool so we have some reservations there.... but it really wasn't an option for us to go without her. For a variety of reasons (might be our last cruise with all of us/etc.) but also because there's no one to watch her here and we're certainly not leaving our 14yr old alone! The only person she could stay with is my mom who lives in a one room apartment type thing and can't even take her to band camp and/or school anyway since she's disabled (quadraplegic) herself. so she's going..... and we're just hoping that it works out okay. LOL

I have a cruise photo of DH and I in our formal gear and when my son first saw it he looked at his dad and said "You let mom wear that! It's a little low don't you think"

Isn't it nice to have those sons to keep us in line? ;)
:rotfl: :rotfl2:

Er.....nope. DMIL and myself have to be chaperoned anywhere near anything Disney - we egg each other on to unseen heights of Disney 'stuff' :cool1:

Andy

I love it!!!

My IL's think we are really weird to like Disney..... A few months ago she told 10ds that she wanted to buy him the *stuff* to finish his bathroom (we hadn't bought a shower curtain or anything yet). When he told her he wanted it to be Disney she wouldn't buy him anything.... :confused3

On CC, can you reserve an Aqua Trike in advance or do you just rent them at the beach? :)

Oh, and I record the Disney Cruise Line show on Travel Channel for my DS who's 6 and after watchingg he said that these should be the names for the new DCL ships, Disney Port and Disney Crayon, lol.

My drygoods arrived today all in one piece. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make this happen. You're the Best!!! pirate:

Hey! :rotfl:

If you are staying at one of the DL resort hotels, you will have to pay a "receiving fee" to have a package shipped/delivered to your hotel (I believe). :confused3 We have a conference at DLH every year for my work and we have to pay a lot to receive boxes there. Sometimes we have them delivered to the Hojo where other employees stay and then they bring it over. Definitely cuts down on some costs.

While receiving fees are common for conferences (shipping to booths, hotel conference center, etc), It's not common to charge guests to receive packages to their rooms.

So, just to check - I called the GC operator and he confirmed that there is no charge to receive a package.

It is, of course, customary to tip the bell-hop who delivers it.

Received our pirate gear today:

I love them! Thanks for all the hard work!
