YEAH!!! We are packing for the lake!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1: Leaving in about 30 minutes or so!!!!

Ben has been able to keep down liquids and has eaten 2 pieces of toast!!! His temperature has also gone down to 99° and he feels a lot better. So, we are going to pack up and head up north!!

We haven't been to our lake place for 3 weeks and we won't be going a whole lot this summer...so it is great to go up this weekend!!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and I will try to catch up with everyone on Sunday night....HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all the dads out there!!!!

Hi all,

I have a question for you. We were going to have a car from Budget for the first part of our holiday and drive to the Port. Plans are changing slightly and we are now not going to have a car pre cruise. All the car rental sites redirect me to their British versions and a one way one day rental is coming up at £50 (at current rates that is around $85.) For a little more I have seen town car transfers and to be honest the thought of someone else driving and dropping us off is a little more relaxing so worth a small supplement.

If you are taking a town car transfer who are you using and if you don't mind me asking what is the cost? I would ideally like a quick stop at a Walmart or similar on the way so info on if this is possible would also be good.

Thanks in advance,
Mel

Mel - We looked at so many different options and decided on renting a car. We were able to get a great deal through Enterprise (actually had to call them to do one way pricing).

You should be able to find better pricing than we did because there are 7 of us in our group and everything we looked at was higher then we have ever paid in Florida.

Years ago we used rent a car. But after driving "inside" hurricane Charlie we decided to use town cars
We use Fl Tours (the sponsor of DIS transportation boards); until one years ago there was a 20% discount for DIS Sponsor ... but now this is gone.
I am almost sure their price include also a grocery stop

Thanks for your replies guys. I will mull it over. I guess the cheapest is still going to be a one day rental just before the cruise and at least we could scope out where the budget office is and how their shuttle service is as we have booked the post cruise rental with them.

DGH - I think you must have been there in 2004 the same time as us. I was driing down the 192 coming home from Disney to batten down the hatches ready to wait out hurricane Charley and the radio cut out and started beeping with a "Severe and immediate weather warning - possibility of tornados" right in the area we were. The weird thing was it was still sunny when the weather warning began and it immediately began to hammer it down with rain - it was spooky and somewhat scary.

We were fine back at our villa but I was mighty pleased to pull onto the driveway and into the garage thankfully without meeting a tornado!

Yes
We rented the AVIS car on Friday morning and went back to WL where we were staying.
Charlie hit WDW on friday evening ... it was a nightmare.

Then the day after we drove ... along roads full of trees, branches, debris
mickeys_dreamers_i00001c.gif
... toward Pot Canaveral to board the Magic... what an experience ...
The boarding started several hours later because the ship had problems to dock due to high sea ... We remained hours in the car under the Florida sun ... when we understood the ship was ready for boarding ... we got a teriible storm !
mickeys_dreamers_i00001c.gif

We drove to AVIS location in the storm to drop off the car ... we reached the shuttle in the storm and boarded the ship completely soaked ...

the year after we started to use town cars

We are driving down from CT
not sure where we are staying the night before yet

Ed how long will it take you to drive down to Port Canaveral ??

HAVE A NICE WEEKEND YOU TOO !!!
Thanks for your weekly reminder : each week we are closer !!

We're driving down too but will spend a few days at WDW before the cruise (thank you Disney for those awesome military rates for WDW!!!) It takes us about 22 hours to drive down - we will probably stop in one of the Carolinas on the way down for a few hours of sleep and then back on the road. Driving such long distances isn't for everyone but we usually have a fun time. And it gives Sean and I alot of uninterrupted time to just talk - we're usually running around so much at home that it seems we sometimes miss each other. sigh. Plus we leave at a time when the kids can sleep for part of the ride. And, when they are awake, the dvd player in the back help alot!!

Hi Everyone!

Jen, glad your son is on the mend, and Andrew, glad all checked out ok w/ your eyes.

Jude, we are accustomed to long drives too and handle them well!:thumbsup2 Our drive to Fla is only about 12-13 hours - we'll do it overnight, no stops except for gas. DH and I split the driving - I actually pull the longer haul, b/c that's what I prefer - drive all night listening to music while they sleep. Usually when we hit GA or FL line I'm too tired and we switch.

We'll leave late Thurs afternoon after work, drive to inlaws in FL - they are about 1/2 hour from the Port - very nice indeed! Have a chance to recuperate on Friday.:)

re: all the TRANSPORTATION plans...I will need to make arrangements for my mom to get to the airport from the ship on the last day. Can we make those arrangements thru DCL while on the ship? I think she did that once before...I need to look into it.:confused3 (although, it's quite possible my inlaws will want to bring her to the airport, but just in case...).

Have a great weekend everyone! Wow - 8 WEEKS!!! Woo Hoo!:woohoo::banana::cheer2::cool1:

Thanks for the update Ed! It is the highlight of my week!!!!!!

I am so excited that it is all getting to be so close - plus having everything paid in full (WDW and cruise) make it feel a lot nicer as well!:goodvibes

Today is the official day that I can pull out the suitcases!!!! :rotfl2: Seriously, they are coming out and I will start packing!!!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Jen - we are just as bad. Right after the 4th the suitcases will come out and I will start pulling out outfits. :dance3::dance3:

Your dress looks beautiful. You are too young to worry about old and classy. It is the Islands we are all suppose to be bright.:yay::woohoo:

Mel - we are using FL Tours. Their number is 1-888-832-2111. Recommended by the DIS. We are paying $250 and that is Airport to Port. Port with a grocery stop and then to the World, and The World to the Airport.

Hope this helps.:woohoo:
