7DMT Media Event - Avoid MK?

Just wondering - with the 7DMT doing the Media event/premiere on 4/30 - 5/2, should MK be avoided or will the effect on crowds be negligible? I haven't been to the parks when anything has opened.

Will be in the area at that time and want to avoid crazy crowds where I can! But POTC opens back up 5/1, and MK has EMH 5/1 as well, and I was planning on opening the park! Should I rethink my strategy?

I'll be there at the same time so I would be interested to hear what others have to say too.

I'll be solo for the first time so I'm off to go read your latest trip report.:thumbsup2

I don't have an answer, but would also like to know. 5/2 will be our first day there and we have planned to have lunch at MK and were hoping to ride! I'm guessing it's going to be slam busy :crowded:

The impact of media events is hit or miss but this one is almost everything rolled into one: 7DMT, MM+, Fairytale Hall. The area around the coaster will probably be off limits at times to give the press room to report and whatnot and there will definitely be a lot of cameras and lights. Personally, I'd avoid it but that's just me.

What a bummer. I thought I had planned the perfect week to go to WDW. We were going to try for 2 days at MK. Sunday, April 27th and Friday, May 2nd. Do we have ANY chance of having a decent time? I tried to pick a lower crowd week, and schedule all park days on green days (except the 1st day at MK).

Any advice on how to maneuver around?

I feel your pain! I was so excited to be able to back during a low crowd week, and now this! I guess the simple answer is to avoid MK for those three days, but that really only gives me one day there.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but it would be possible for me to delay my trip for a week, and I'm seriously thinking about it. It would cost about an additional $250 for air and hotel changes, and the crowd levels would go from threes and fours to solid fives, but if it meant I would avoid the madness completely... Please help, Dissers!:worship: Would you change your dates if you could to avoid the mayhem?

I'm not changing! Just because MK may have quite a few people doesn't mean that the other parks will. Further, I wonder if I can just do an early morning MK a few days and then get the heck outta there and hop somewhere else. I have BOG lunch reservations one of those days, so you bet I will be there!

I don't think it's work $250 to change to a week that has higher crowds already, but I'm also someone who likes the parks equally. If MK is busy, I have no problem hopping to Epcot or HS, or AK.

That being said, if you move your dates back a week there's a good chance you could ride 7DMT. Guess it's up to what you want!

Okay, put $125 of that cost back in your pocket and Paypal me the other $125 and I'll give you my advice. :joker:

Never mind, put it all in your pocket and keep the ressies the way they are. We were at MK during the media event for the original opening of Fantasyland and it was no more crowded (IMO) than it would have been without it. Just stay clear of the area and you should be fine.

I was considering moving my Sept trip up to that week, but I'm choosing not to only because it's just me and my 3 year old. So we pretty much plan on spending 70% of our time in MK, and a large part of that in the FL area. So I'd think as long as you're planning on spreading your time amongst the other parks anyways, and get to MK at rope drop, you'll probably not be TOO inconvenienced. I'm sure there will be some degree of extra crowds, but I'd think it should be manageable.

I knew I could count on you guys!!!! I'll just make sure I do FL early in the week, and then if I'm forced to spend a day eating around the world in Epcot, I'll just have to deal with it.;)

:thanks:
