75 items for a 75th birthday - NEED IDEAS!!!!!

How about 75 of those little miniature candy bars - either all of her favorite kind, or a mixture. They have just about everything out in miniature for Halloween right now. Or even 75 hershey kisses in some cute little container.

75 disney pins

75 something around their hobbie - Quilt patterens, Seeds/flowers for planting...

I did this for my MIL when she turned 60 and 2 friends when they turned 40. A few of the things I got where mentioned. I also got the number of batteries, stamps, Q-tips, dental flossers, safety pins, paper clips, pins, needles, pencils, pens, pennies from each year (for MIL), quarters, nickels, dimes, lottery tickets, etc. and I also did lists, 60 or 40 Jokes, 60 or 40 memories, 60 or 40 Oscar winners (one for each year), 60 or 40 events that happened on your birthdays, and for my MIL I also put together 60 smiles which were collages I made from family photos of 60 smiles. A lot of the little things I got from the dollar store.

75 birthday cards from family, neighbors, church friends:goodvibes

75 reasons why she is so special

75 things that were popular when she was growing up or when she was born
you can write down on a piece of paper.

have fun

Here's something you can do basically for free (just some internet research and some graphics/cool fonts):

Make her a 75 page "newspaper". The front page can be the date of her birth with "Today ___________ was born! She weighed _____ and was _____ long. Her parents __________ and ___________ and siblings ________ (if any) were very happy to welcome her home"

Then, each subsequent page would be news items for each year on her b'day. For example, the next page would be _____her b'day____, 1936 and you can put that dates' headlines, weather, prices of everyday things for that date in history. The next page would be ____her b'day____, 1937 and you would put the same things.

It would take some internet research but it would be a fun project.

That's a cute idea! It would acutally be a great school project!

Give her a framed piece of parchment paper typed out in old time lettering with 75 things that have happened through the history of her life. Berlin Wall coming down ... Computers.... Cell Phones ... Color TV ... etc. Focus on the good things (a matter of opinion)!:happytv:

At the cracker barrel, they actually sell cards from different decades. And on the inside it tells you what happened during that year, how much milk and eggs were, gas prices. All cute little fun stuff.

I would do a little book. On each divider put the decade, and some cool info about the decade (like the card). Then on each following page, find something that happened that year. And if you personally know something about her, like the year she got married, or if she had any younger siblings born that year, you can write it in as well.
If you can find it, I'd tape a penny to each page some place.

Different tea bags would be a great idea, if she's a tea drinker.

oh this is fun. My niece is turning 10 on 10/10/10 and we asked for gifts of 10 too! Maybe something that is 75 ounces - food, juice, water etc...

So, I've just go to ask this... when she was born, did her parents instantly say "she'll be 10 on 10/10/10," or did it take them a while to realize it?

75 zip lock bags for taking food from a buffet

:rotfl:

Decorate a jar or cannister and fill it with 75 of paper or pictures, each one containing a memory you have of the birthday girl. She can read/look at them over a period of time

There are so many great ideas on this thread, but I think this one takes the cake! Maybe I'm being sentimental or something, but that almost made me cry. What a great, great gift! I might borrow that and do it for my Grandma, who will be celebrating 83 years young in June!!

Well lots of people have mentioned paper items, but how about 75 pieces of paper? In this day and age many people forget about the fine art of writing letter and notes, but many folks of that generation still actually write letters to their friends. So I guess I'm suggesting 75 pieces of really nice, fancy stationary. You could make her a package of customized note cards with her baby picture on them - get some that use really really nice card stock. Or get some with her initial, name, etc.

for my grandmas 90 birthday open house i made a top ten list of things that happned in 1919 so i counted down the top ten things that happend that year as that was the year she was born. i googled things and came up with a bunch of stuff such as prices and history stuff and famouse people and i ended it with her being born. it was coll and every one loved it

I agree I don't think she would like more "stuff". How about some useful stuff?

75 dryer sheets
75 oz of detergent (not sure how you would do this)
75 paper towels or kleenex
75 small and large paper plates
75 peppermints
75 tylenol, motrin, etc...
75 depends or light pad type items
75 bottles of water (the small ones)
75 tucks pads
75 bobby pins or hair pins (if she uses these)

Seriously? SERIOUSLY???? #1--not every one over the age of 35 wears Depends--I think that's an arrogant presumption. #2--IF she wears them (uses them) that's NOT for public information. How embarrassing! Do you think that because she's old she's past the point of dignity???

Oy. Sorry to be so militant but my DH is a geriatric physician and I find this lack of sensitivity appalling.

How about 75 chicks through the Heifer project; that lets her make a HUGE difference in a poor family's life!

We've done this too. 75 ounces or 7.5 ounces or 75 feet 7.5 inches...

Yes I was very SERIOUS. Maybe I am ARROGANT. I do know a lot of women who are under the age of 75 who wear a Light type of pad or depend item. It was just a list of suggested items for the OP. These are just material things. You singled out my post and was appaled, but yet you seemed to be ok with the poster about the ziploc bags so she could "take" items from a buffet. As you did not single out that post.

How about 3 boxes of Greeting Cards or Christmas Cards?
Usually easy to find those in groups of 25.
Stamps, too, or combine for 25 stamps and 50 cards.
Or 75 pens and pencils........ I think going to Staples would be a place to get ideas that are practical.

LOL at the doggy bag comment:rotfl2:

We did this for my dad, from the "little kids" (ie grandkids). 75 chocolate nuggets, 75 ricola candies (he loves them), 75 pennies (he gets a kick at looking for certain dates/mint marks).

I'd do tea bags, candies (life savers or carmels are good if chocolate is out), quarters would be fun, candles, travel size items (bath and bodyworks lotion, anti-bac, etc.), 75 hot drink mixes (tea bags, apple cider, hot choc---maybe with a mug). A magazine subscription for 75 issues (pick a weekly magazine--it's about 18months).
