74-year-old mother on TOT?

As long as she has a strong heart, I can't see why she'd have an issue with it. The ride isn't jarring at all, and other than the adrenaline rush, she should be fine. My wife has neck problems, and this has become her second favorite ride (after Soarin') because of that. It's very easy on the joints, but it's a rush.

First of all, I'm so sorry for the loss of your dad.

It sounds like your mother should be fine, especially if she's free from health problems, but I understand your concern. However, if your mom really thinks she's up for it and wants to do it, I think you should relax and let her have fun. I have definitely seen plenty of older folks riding before.

When my parents went 2 years ago with us, Dad was a month shy of 66. He roade TT, BTMR and Primaverl Whirl. This was 2 years after a quad bypass (which he confirms his heart is strong and healthy). I was flipping out but his philosophy was why can't I do it if I enjoy it? My mom said she couldn't stop him from being happy and having fun (my dad is the biggest kid when he gets to WDW!:thumbsup2). We did draw the line at SM and he actually agreed on that one.

They are coming back with us in July and I"m sure he'll be right back at it, living his life to the fullest :)

My father-in-law was in his 80s the last time he went to Disney with us and roadie everything. He is 92 now and if we took him again, I know he would do the same thing. He says he wants to live until he dies. I love him so much.

:goodvibes

If she's in good health, I say go for it. My mom rode The Incredible Hulk at IoA when she was 70!

PSU Guy's mother's experience notwithstanding (sorry about that Bill) the ride isn't especially rough. The drops are smooth, but perhaps not the first thing to experience the first hour after a meal.

If health permits, go for it. I would also think that those of us from the older generation might also appreciate the Twilight Zone theming even more than younger riders.:earsboy:

I'm glad the OP is going to go with the flow with her mother. I just wanted to add something for people to think about. I'm 52 years old now and just a few short years ago, had to decide if I wanted an operation that would solve my female issues. It was a no brainer for me since I'll never have any more kids and, as it turned out, I really needed that operation but no one knew until it was over. Did that affect me? Yes - but - the doctor said the average life expectancy of a healthy women these days is "at least" 85 years. I thought about that - I still had another 35 years at minimum to go! That was my daughter-in-law's entire age! I can live another lifetime!

We took DH's 88 year old grandfather with us in 2012. He pretty much rode everything in every park! He had a blast and so did we. The ride photo from space is priceless! We did rent him a ECV to use which helped with his stamina :moped::wizard:. I say go for it

Your stories have made me smile (except for the poor lady who "blew lunch").

Yes, life has to be lived. I think it is smart to think things through and be sensible, but I guess one can't worry about every little thing and what could go wrong. Or at least one can try not to worry!

We are taking a family trip to Disney this summer. My mother said she thought she might like to try Tower of Terror. She is 74 and pretty healthy, walks every day and doesn't have heart problems or anything, but that makes me nervous.

I know she is a grown woman and can make her own decisions, but what do you think about that?

Part of the reason we are taking this trip is to try to have something to look forward to after the fairly quick and unexpected death of my father from cancer last month - so maybe that heartbreaking loss is why I am feeling a little over-protective of Mom.

Do people over 70 go on that ride?
My sister, who was 70 at the time, rode it. She did fine.
