7 parks in 5 days with 4 kids – A survival story!

Hurray! I'm writing about Animal Kingdom this week too, how fun to compare experiences. You're DH is sooo tall! I'm not sure you noticed that mine is not, lol...we're both 5'5", and our teen agers tower over us. On more than one occasion my DH has been mistaken as one of my kids :lmao: good for him, me not so much. I'm totally envying your AK day...you'll see why...and now I want to go back. I can't wait to read more. You are so much more on top of it than I am.

Amber, I am totally digging your TR --- how fun that we get to enjoy each others at the same time!! It's like going through it twice!

Yes, I have to admit, in a few of your pics I do do a double take and wonder which one is your DH!! That's a good problem, In my opinion!

Funny, but you can envy our AK and we'll envy your Epcot experience...kay? You'll see why....the rest of our day went downhill from here. I also want to go back and redo our trip to Epcot! In my mind I've already redone all the mistakes we made!! Oh, well! You live and learn, right? :confused3

Can't wait to hear more "YES"!!!

Blessings to you and yours,

Sounds like a good day at AK but you have me worried about Epcot! My DD loves EE too! In 4 trips we have never met Flik, so I love seeing his photo!

so it's settled then, one of us will win the lottery and we'll both go back to WDW!!!
Cause until we're down to one kid, that's the ONLY way we'll ever be able to go again :rotfl2:

Hurray an update!! Love your Photopass pics - everyone looks so happy! That is too funny about how the rafts got jammed up on Kali :rotfl2:

Your day at AK sounds fun! You do an amazing job anticipating all of Noah's food needs. I know the fact that it works is all the incentive a mother needs, but I bet it's a lot of work.

Can't wait to hear about Epcot!!

Excuse the interruption in your trip report (which, by the way is a great report), but I want to apologize for not being at the carousel last week. Tim (another volunteer) told me today that you had come by looking for me. I wasn't there, as I was sick. I had a low grade fever, and although I was antibiotics and feeling much better, didn't want to take a chance on infecting any of the kids. Perhaps we can meet when you do a "Welcome back" visit.

Katie

Katie -- I'm sorry I had meant to respond earlier! I felt like I was stalking you that week! I had remembered that you were touring kids on the day we got there and at the carosel the day we left. So I had seen a woman touring that day and I didn't want to interrupt the tour, but when I saw her later I asked her if she was you! But she was Ann Marie (?) Gosh I'm horrible at names! Anyhow, and then when Tim was running the carosel (where we lived every day!) and asked him, I was worried you'd get the report that somebody was stalking you!!!

It's a bummer that I never got to see you, but your information was invaluable to me. Thank you for all you do for wish families at GKTW. I honestly can't talk about the place without tearing up -- and we've been home for 2 1/2 weeks now.

More coming once I get some more pics organized!!!!

Blessings to you,
Beth

All caught up, Beth! It sounds like you guys have had an awesome time so far, and I can't wait to read more! :goodvibes: I think you all got more done with 8 people than we did with 3!!

I agree, I have a hard time looking at pictures of GKTW. I think it's knowing that you can go back to WDW, or Sea World, and even visit the village, but no matter how much money you have, you can never do that week at GKTW again. I'm soooo happy James' wish included it, and not staying at a WDW resort, I just don't think it would have been the same for us.

I am so enjoying your report! I had to laugh at the picture of your hubby with Barney!!!

Hi Beth,

Just came across your TR and have to tell you that I am really enjoying hearing all the details of your family's magical trip. I am a former Rhode Islander (actually in my heart I will always be a Rhode Islander). We moved south because of my husband's job last year but still think of RI as our home and I am hopeful that some day we will return to live there again. As you know, RI is so small that if we began talking we would probably find a few people that we are connected through ....... love that about little Rhody!!!

So sorry to hear about your son's illness but glad to hear that the keto diet is working for him. Without going into too much detail, let me just say that I have been on the other end of seeing kids with such horrible diseases and have had the chance to write to MAW on these kids' behalf. Later the kids and families would tell me how much they enjoyed their trips to Disney (as that seems to be an extremely popular wish). However, it is even more satisfying to read the details of such a trip and what each experience means to the kids and their families. So thank you for sharing.

Looking forward to reading more.

hey girls, I have family in RI, it sounds like wonderful people come from there :)

I need another installment of your trip to motivate me to write about our last day! It seems like after I read your TR I get all jazzed up again and write :)

Hello! Just found your trip report and am really enjoying it. I was at GKTW for my sister's wish trip in 2005. We just visited in Feb to see all of th beautiful new additions. It is such a magical place. I'm looking forward to reading more!

Amanda -- so glad you are home!
Lynn-- It just gets funnier with my DH and all the characters!
Mousekamaddi and Buckeye princess -- Welcome ! thanks for saying hello and being with us on this!!

Amber -- I feel the same way! If we ever do go back to the Orlando area, we will most certainly use our "visit" to GKTW. In the past 3 weeks all I've heard from the kids is "When we go back to Disney...I want to....."
And other than showing Mickey random things, they all say something about the village! (ride the carosel, swim in the pool, visit Ol' Elmer!)

Hi there! Thanks for sharing all that you did as well! Yes, I think in RI it's like 3 degrees of separation!! I do love living here though -- other than in late winter/early spring, that is! ;)

As much as I complain about it, I am so unbelievably grateful for what the keto diet has done for Noah. I try to remember where he could be without it and I cling to the following Bibleverse, which I have posted near the scale in the kitchen, but which could be meaningful to most all moms......
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9

I'm working on the next installment!!!

I hope to get the next one done soon! The text is done...I'm just working on the pics and might have to wait for a few of Courtney's. I have hardly no pics myself of Epcot! Are you on the last day already? How did that happen so fast!!?!?! I'm going to have to go back and reread to enjoy it all over again!

I didn't know you had fam in RI....boy from smallest state to largest!!! :rotfl:

Well, I finally made it over from the Pre TR to the actual TR, everyone looks like they are having a great time, can't wait for more pics!

Warning: I promise you a really fun time if you do exactly what we DON’T do at Epcot! I also promise more pics when I get Courtney's!

En route to Epcot from AK, Ella caught at least a few zzzz’s, but that was about it. As soon as we got to Epcot, we were all ready for more!

allpluto.jpg

We got there about 4pm and had thought the VIP lounges were open until 5pm and that Futureworld was only open until 7pm – DISCLAIMER: WRONG WRONG on both!

We headed first over to Test Track.
testtrack2.jpg

TOTALLY fun ride!!!

testtrack.jpg

The favorite of several of us – but not Ella! Check out the ride photos below:

testtrack1-1.jpg

testtrack2-1.jpg

Noah and Abby wanted to ride again but Noah backed out just before getting on. Abby and Auntie go again, while the rest check out the GM showroom!

testtrack3.jpg

johncamaro.jpg

The GM sales people really wanted Brian to sit in the Camaro, which he DID fit into. They were thrilled because they originally thought it would only fit up to a 6’9” person. Don’t think we’re going to be in the market for one anytime soon, though!

So we had heard there was a GM VIP lounge at Test Track --- WRONG! It’s closed now. But supposedly Siemen’s has a cool one ….back at Spaceship Earth. Well, since we only have 30 min, we decide it’s our only chance to check it out!

Disneypics-Beth137.jpg

Disneypics-Beth138.jpg

After finding it and entering the code ---- WRONG! It closed at 4pm!

Well, at least maybe we should ride Spaceship Earth while we’re here. Noah had fallen asleep during all the walking around we were doing to find the lounge, so he would stay and hang with Nanni while we go on it. Then John starts getting grumpy again (darn that breakfast!) and he decides to stay and hang with Nanni too. This ends up being a great idea because there are some cool games here and they have a blast playing virtual shuffleboard (or whatever that game was – whatever it was it was fun!)

johnnannishuffleboard.jpg

So, I digress….back to Spaceship Earth. I get on first, followed by the girls, then Auntie, then Brian brings up the rear. As soon as I get in, I’m wondering if it’s a smart thing having Ella and Abby in their own car, but too late now….ride starts….we’re just started, it’s going up….it’s a dark and starry looking sky….and DEAD STOP of the ride.

Are you kidding me? Any other spot and we’d be fine, but it is REALLY dark. All I can think is it’s a good thing John isn’t here because he hates the dark! Then I hear crying from behind me and Ella is starting to wimper….then crying…then hysteria! “I want to go home!” “I want Miles!” (one of our crazy annoying dogs!)

So I sit there comforting her as the minutes tick on….

As she’s getting more upset….the familiar announcement continues about not getting out of your seat because it will start up at any moment…..

Well, I took my chances and had her climb out of her car and into mine. That helped her because she could play with my phone, giving off a little light, and look at a picture of Miles. So then Abby, Court, Brian and I could exchange back a few laughs on how we’re breaking Disney and how they’re going to add a warning on our GAC pretty soon!! We sit there for over 10 minutes, then finally move on – but just happy to get off the silly thing!
John and Nanni are still having a blast and Noah is still asleep.

We head off to Soarin’, which everybody likes except for Ella (are you seeing a pattern here too?). I never got to ride it, but I did hang out with sleepy beauty and got this precious photo……

Disneypics-Beth141.jpg

By then we’re thinking that future world closes at 7pm so we’ll do Nemo and Turtle Talk now. Nemo? Okay ride, but not much better than the movie, in my opinion. Oh, and our “shell” stops for a while before we get off? Yup, another ride we end up making STOP! But it’s short-lived at least and we move on. Turtle Talk is starting in 15 minutes. While waiting, the kids are playing with the trivia games...I eventually figure out that Noah's doing it in German -- and he gets 4 out of 5 correct!!

noahknowsgerman.jpg

I had heard great things about Turtle Talk with Crush and it was neat to see the technology, but didn’t live up to the hype, in my opinion. Of course, by this time we were all GRUMPY! And no, there was no snow white around! :sad2:

We also had just found out that we were WRONG (can you see the pattern now) and that Future world is open until the park closes. Ugh. We really wanted to do the Kim Possible thing and the World Showcase, but had held off because we thought we had to be here, and it was now becoming apparent that we probably wouldn’t even make it to the world showcase. It was already after 7pm and we still had to eat dinner. And we had to find a Hot Dog for Noah.

(SIDEBAR: In case you missed my blub in the AK post, we worked with our dietician to calculate a "Disney Hot Dog Meal" that was ketogenic. So it isn't that Noah is being a picky eater....we needed the specific hot dog's nutrition to eat with what we had packed for his meal! In the future we won't make this mistake and will always have a backup!!! )

We head back into the Land and check out Sunshine Seasons (the counter service place there) It had been recommended that it’s a good place for special dietary foods because they share a kitchen with the Garden Grill….and it has tons of options….something for everybody right? WRONG!!! Not John – he doesn’t like anything he sees! And not Noah either – no stinking Hot Dog! So the rest of us sit to eat while Brian goes to the place the chef recommended where he could find a hot dog……

….WRONG! no, not here, but they do send him someplace else where he can find one……
….WRONG! They say no, but send him all the way to the AMERICAN PAVILION – on the completely other side of the park -- where he finds they only have CHILI DOGS! After finally getting one without chili and making his way back to us….it is now after 8pm. Noah eats his hot dog, while Brian goes for a walk to cool off – both physically and mentally!

We’re all left to figure out do we just cut our losses and go home? :confused3
The kids are tired….but not complaining. We’re all just kind of numb. Thinking that surely Brian’s got to be done with this place, I call him and discover he’s found some yummy fried shrimp and that sure, he’s up for the fireworks!

So we head off to find a spot. We literally bump into a CM named Scott who is SUPER nice and shows us to some VIP seats for the show. He must have seen frustration stamped all over our faces!!

Brian comes back with his yummy shrimp – that look good to my mom and John too! (Side note: John doesn’t usually try things and it was probably just because he was really hungry, but he liked them! AH, it’s the little victories, isn’t it?) ;) They head back to get more shrimp and find that, ironically, the shrimp joint is right next to a HOT DOG stand! Oh, it’s probably a good thing Brian didn’t notice that!!!

We sit down to watch the fireworks, which really are beautiful.

fireworks.jpg

I’ve always been partial to the fireworks over the castle, but I have to say I was impressed with these! I am also just so happy that we stayed to watch them too, otherwise we would’ve left on a bum note. But it's amazing what fireworks will do!

noahonshoulders.jpg

epcotball.jpg

We drag ourselves out of there and head back to GKTW. Yup, it's been a long day for all!! (This pic is payback for the one that's coming up)

tiredafterepcot.jpg

Brian had been bummed that we wouldn’t make it back by 10 for his nightly pizza! As we pull in at 10:10, we notice a pizza truck at our neighbors….yes, we are WRONG again! But this time in our favor -- pizza delivery is until 10:30! :woohoo: Brian orders his pizza and this is how I find him later…..

Disneypics-Beth142.jpg

He’s going to kill me for posting this!!! Despite the mistakes and frustrations, we all have a truly fun day and sleep well!

Next up: A fun filled day at DHS with a lot fewer mistakes!

:rotfl2::rotfl2: at John!! That poor guy! He had to have been so exhausted.

Noah is so sweet sleeping peacefully. Bless his heart! I love the photo with Pluto sticking his head in that is too cute!!

What a great picture of everyone together! In spite of your "mistakes", it sounds like some fun was had. I'm glad John finally found the hot dog! I will be amazed if any of my kids ever fall asleep in any of the parks when we go.

So, you didn't really do the world showcase with the kids? Carmella is really excited about the World Showcase, so we definitely need to make time in our day for that.
