My husband, myself and our 2 children (ages 5 and 2 1/2) are first time cruisers with Disney booked on the Magic 3/15/03-3/22/03. We are interested in hearing people's opinions re: the excursions at Cozumel and Grand Cayman. Specifically, with a 2 1/2 year old, are the beach excursions too long? If we needed to end the excursion short and take a taxi back, does anyone know if this is feasible? Any suggestions, advise, etc. is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Mumsy,
My suggestion is to plan your own days, and your own excursions of sorts.

Grand Cayman has a great company called Captain Marvins www.captainmarvins.com We took the two hour stingray excursion and had an awsome time. Our group of 19 ranged from Adult down to some 7 year olds and a 3 year old.

We all had a blast. The 3 year old didn't get out of the boat and loved watching the people swiming and seeing the fish in the water. The three 7 year olds didn't get out except at Stingray City and they loved it too. We just alternated being with them so they didn't get uncomfortable. The people at Captain Marvins are wonderful. They really took good care of us and included all of us, even the 3 year old who didn't get off the boat.

At Cozumel we rented a jeep from WWW.COZUMELINSIDER.COM cost us $45 for the day and we didn't have to walk but a few blocks from the ship to pick it up. Wasn't fancy, but clean and it ran well. We drove about 15 minutes to a place called Mr. Sancho's Beach. WWW.MRSANCHOS.COM Free entrance, very clean beach. Lots of little shops, great food... great fun. We left when we were ready and did a little shopping before heading back to turn in the jeep and get back on the ship.

Key West was a waste of time as far as we were concerned. Nothing much to do there and it seemed dirty and hot!

So... that's my 2 cents i'm sharing with you today. Feel free to email me if you have more questions. I can send you a link to my pics if you'd like. Just get me your email address...

Was the 3 year old allowed to get off the boat if they wanted to?? I can't see my 4 year old staying on the boat if I got off to swim.

Yes, we had a simular experience, our son was just over 2 years old and we booked the Red Baron Stingray City Sailing Charters with another family and he watched from from the sail boat for a bit but then went to my husband and sat on his shoulders for a long time. We brought his arm floaties so he did swim around for a bit as well. He couldn't touch there, its shallow but not shallow enough for a toddler.

Red Baron was great by the way, Neil is a father as well so was very patient which was a blessing;) You just don't know how a 2 year old boy will be moment to moment. They take only 8 people max and it was nice to have our space for a while. The sailboat was amazing, quite relaxing at least once our son fell asleep:D he's still the energiser bunny:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Yes! Actually any age can get off the boat... the 3 yr old just chose not to. It was a very relaxed trip... No worries Mon! :)
