What shore excursions on the Western Cruise are worth doing. My husband and I will be traveling next May. This is our first cruise and any info would be helpful and appreciated.

We, my wife and I, did the Western last Sept. We don't like to be hearded around like tourist even though we are most times. We chose to get tickets, on line, for the Trolly in KW. We could get on and off as much as we liked. This fit our needs and cost less than $10 each. After touring KW all day we went back to our cabin, cleaned up and changed clothes before going back yo Mallory Sq. for the sundown celebration. No charge for that. We did miss our late seating so we ate dinner at Topsiders.
In GC we had reservations with Capt. Marvin for the 3 stop tour first thing in the morning and then we spent some time just walking around and looking in the shops. I think the cost of the excursion here was $60 for the two of us. My wife had to purchase a SS Stingray charm to commemorate swimming with them.
In Cozumel we just shopped, had lunch on the ship and went out for souvineirs that afternoon.

No matter what you like to do you will be able to do it in a less expensive and we think more orderly manner going outside DCL.

Have a great time.

We cruised the Western in December 02 and did the following:

Conch Train in Key West and shopping: did on our own. Liked it, but would do Trolley next time so we could get off and on at interesting places.

Land and Sea Island tour in GC: did through Disney. Was a hurried experience, but a great way to see the whole island and the stingrays. AND, I didnt have to get in the water with them! I do NOT see what the hoopla is about swimming with those things!:)

Jungle Jeep Tour in Cozumel: did through Disney. What can I say other than this was the most awesome trip out there! The guides were funny, friendly, and not too bad looking...;) , we got to see the "real parts" of Cozumel, and had a great lunch on the beach with only about 15 other people! It was like having a private beach party.

HTH, in all..I would say, do your own thing in Key West and GC, and try one of the excursions in Coz. I also heard (from WebmasterMichelle and CathyCanada) that the Fury Catamaran in Coz is a blast...I think we are going to try that one next time.

I highly recommend the Fury Catamaran in Cozumel. It was the highlight of the trip for my family and brother's family.
