7 month window is not imposible

We booked a 2 BR AKV room at the 11 month window for 8/10 to ensure we had a reservation. I called this morning (7 month mark) and cancelled AKV and booked 2 BR at BCV. The 7 month window is not imposible. We have always gotten what we wanted (have waitlisted several times, but they always came through).

While I agree that it is not impossible I think the economy has had a big effect on it the last two years. I think when the economy picks back up it will be a little harder to get some rooms at the seven month window.

We've never had a problem being able to get the type of room we want at 7 months, heck we normally book at the 1-2 month window :lmao: Then again we try to visit in the off season.

We just booked studios for before and after our cruise in February (yes, about 35 days out). We booked studios merely to save on points since we are staying in a higher point season than we normally prefer not to mention the amount of points we used for the cruise :scared1:

Both studios and 1-bedrooms were available, the only problem we had was that BWV studios weren't available the last night we were staying so we just picked another resort

We have also had good fortune when booking at the 7 month window. I recently booked a 1 bdrm, savanna view, AKL-Kidani at seven months and about a month ago added on an extra night.

It is not impossible if you are not too particular where you stay.

We are really looking forward to our stay at AKL.

I booked 6 villas at VWL at 11 months for an extended family gathering. We wanted to move to BCV at 7 months. I really thought there would be no chance of that since we needed 2-2BR and 4 studios - so I made no promises to the family but told them I would try. Called 1 day after the 7 month mark (crazy day at work on the 7 month day and couldn't take the time to call knowing it would take some time for that many rooms) and was amazed that I got it. I attributed my luck to the economy and the fact that BLT may be a big draw to normal BCV vacations due to it's relatively recent opening. I knew the waitlist would be out of the questions so it was a one shot deal. I was super excited it worked out. Now, if they shut down SAB for renovations while we are there in June - somebody's going to be very unhappy!!!!!

We have rarely had a problem getting what we want at 7 months, and I believe we travel during busy times, (spring break, June, July, and Food and Wine). We have owned since 2000 so I do not believe it is the economy that makes this possible.

I'm Very Disapointed

I'm happy you guys all got what you wanted at 7 months or less, but I just called MS to try to get HH or BLT or BCV for July, any dates would work and there is nothing, NOTHING available in a 1 bdrm from end of June - mid July.

We just bought our memebership so I didn't have the points before this month and find this very discouraging.

I hope you waitlisted. Except for HH, which is very hard to get into during the summer, I think you do stand a chance. Book something you can be happy with and here 's some Pixie dust for a waitlist to work out for you!

Bobbipixiedust:

PS. At 7 months I was able to move a studio from BWV to BCV so my DSis could be with us over the 4th of July weekend.

I should have noted that I call right at the 7 month mark. And I should have made HH the exception because we like to go their in July and you do need the 11 month window on that one. Lucky we own some points at HH.

Hi pinnocchiosdad,
That is great news. It is always nice to hear when someone can find what they are looking for 7 months or less. For those that have not found the resort(s) you wanted on the first call, waitlist. I know many have success with using waitlists. Have a great time on your trip pinnocchiosdad. :thumbsup2

Thaks for the advice.
This was the very first call I have ever made to MS so I don't know much about waitlisting. The MS guy said that my dates had to be "exact matches" or it wouldn't work out. Not sure if I should take the end, middle or beginning?
Just very sad right now and unsure of even continuing with the paperwork to join.

I recently added on at BLT. I was disappointed to make the new purchase and to not be able to secure a resie at BLT for an upcomming trip. I called DVC member quality assistance and explained our dilema. They secured me a "priority waitlist" (I assume that means I am at the top of the list). Give it a try.

Congratulations, that's nice for you - but not so nice for the people who were already on the waitlist.

Priority waitlist is a nice way to say "Jump the Line". It's definitely appropriate in some situations, but I don't think that anyone who asks gets put on it.

Didn't know the Priority Waitlist was an option for add on purchasers who can't get a reservation due to availability. Usually, for new purchasers, the guides arrange to pull something out of the developer inventory when that happens. First I heard of using ta Priority Waitlist. Most who report getting on a Priority Waitlist have some sort of issue with an MS mistake.

If BLT continues to sell well, more inventory will be added and members on the waitlist may get lucky. Hope it works out for you and everyone who is on the waitlist.

What does this mean? More inventory? Are they not letting all of the rooms book even though they are available and sitting empty?

I was thinking the same thing Carol. If I was on the waitlist and read this, I would be upset. I could understand being put ahead because of some MS mistake or a room going out for renovation but a new buyer shouldn't get a pass to the head of the line to seal a deal.

So far we've always had luck with switching at 7 months (never had to waitlist). Just switched to AKV yesterday! But, we have always tried to travel at times that aren't as busy. We've been lucky to travel at off-peak times while our kids are still young and we have not yet attempted a holiday booking! :scared1:

Yes it is nice for me. My (our) MF's pay their salaries and if they (DVC customer satisfaction team) want to do something nice for a member then that is great for all of us. Priority waitlist is nothing that they pulled out of the air to apease me. Perhaps this is just the first time that you have heard of it. I am sure many members have been assisted by this team and that is another perk of our memberships. With all the dwindling DVC perks it seems unusual to hear a member complaining about someone else receiving one.

We have always been lucky enough to get what we want at 7 months as well (so far anyway). I usually try to have a "2nd choice" in mind tho just in case so that we're not shut out and so that we're not as disappointed. I just about ALWAYS call ON our 7 mo. booking window tho. If I call anytime beyond that then I just hope I can find something open. The shortest time that we've tried to plan so far was last Feb. for Memorial Day weekend - so at around 3 months. There was availability at SSR, AKV & OKW. We don't care for OKW, had stayed at AKV on our previous trip and so SSR was perfect for us and we were happy to find availability for a holiday weekend on short notice.

When we booked for BCV last year I called ON our 7 mo. booking window but not until like 10:00 or 10:30 am. MOST of the week was available but there were a couple of days that weren't so I went ahead & booked BWV as our 2nd choice and waitlisted BCV. It came thru within just a few days! :thumbsup2

My cousin bought DVC last summer thinking they would try HHI sometimes in the summer in addition to their Marathon week in January that they like. I had told her that was a tough one - book it early. She did not. She called a week or two ago trying to get a week at HHI at the end of June...of course nothing was available. Then she said she wanted to go to WDW over Thanksgiving. I don't know how quickly that week books up but I told her to book her SSR NOW so that she has something then to call ON her 7 mo. window to try to switch it. I think she said they wanted to try BCV & since it's smaller I figure she might be disappointed. I just called right at 9:00 on Thurs. and got a studio at HHI for a week starting Aug. 14.

One of the DVC CM's had told me that HHI often books up within about 5 min. of opening the phones so I wasn't going to piddle around about it.:rotfl2: I even set a timer to go off at 8:55 so I wouldn't lose track of time & I'd be ready! I held my breath while she checked and I guess we got lucky. After that one time of waiting for 10:00 or so to call for BCV I learned my lesson. I did wait until about 6 1/2 mo. out to book for spring break...but we were flexible as to where we wanted to stay. There was availability at all but a couple of resorts. But even that says the difference 2 weeks had made with me waiting from 7 mo. to 6 1/2 to call.

Tinkrbell - if you only inquired about availability at the 3 resorts that you mentioned for July then IMO you really should try to be more open to try some of the other DVC resorts. I am sure that one of them would have something open still. We truely enjoy trying a different resort every time we go so that each trip is unique in some way. I'm sorry your first call wasn't as you'd hoped, but if you didn't ask them to check all the resorts then you can't say nothing was available. Can you go toward the end of July or early August? Keep trying and as others have said, you could always waitlist something. People cancel all the time. Good luck - give it another try & don't be so down about it. Most all of the DVC resorts are lovely. Try again!

I'm afraid I agree with Carol and DebbieB. What you were given isn't a perk or it would be available to all members when they wished to use it.

I don't have a problem if DVD/DVC wishes to pull a unit from the developer inventory to provide a reservation for a buyer but I also disagree with priority to member inventory being given when it was not for some mistake made by MS.

And - any people that should have been on the waitlist before you are also paying their salaries and their priority should be respected. I do remember your thread about not being able to get the room and not having arranged for it prior to your purchase. It sounds like this was the squeaky wheel bumping ahead of all others. :sad2:

What the other posters are concerned about is not that DVC did something nice for you. It's that your post implied that a guide put you at the top of the waitlist for a villa, bypassing all the members who called before you, just to get a sale. That's not the way the system is supposed to work. There isn't supposed to be any 'priority' to the waitlist other than first come, first served.

Look at it from the other side. If you'd called several months ago to book a coveted villa, and have been sweating out the waitlist, hoping and praying your name would come up....you probably wouldn't be too thrilled to know that a guide stuck a new customer's name in front of yours to secure a sale.

Now, that may not be what happened. They may have pulled a villa out of CRO inventory for you, and calling it a 'priority waitlist' may have just been a very bad choice of words by the CM. I certainly hope that's the case.
