So how exactly does this work...do you book at your home resort first and then call at 7 months out to see if you can change? If you can is there a fee or do you lose any points? Also how does waitlisting work? Do you start with what they have and hope for the best? What if it doesn't come through? Do you lose your points for the nights you had reserved?

Book your home resort first, at least you will have somewhere to stay. Call at the 7 month window, to find out if what you want is available, there is no fee or points deduction. If it isn't, ask to be waitlisted. They will call you if what you want becomes available, or you can always phone them every once in a while. If your waitlist doesn't come through, you don't lose any extra points. You will still have your home resort booking. Your points total will only change for your vacation if you are changing resorts. I have a waitlist myself for OKW, so the points used for this holiday will alter if it comes through, as my home resort is SSR.

So if you book your resort at 11 months out, call at 7 months and they have 2 of 5 nights at other resort and they put you on waitlist...are you able to still keep your original ressie in case it never comes through?

IF you have enough points to keep the first res and still make the second res, that is the safest way. But that is not always the case. So if points are tight, you may have to take your chances with the waitlist. We just had our waitlist for xmas come through for AKV. We chose to take the "all or nothing approach" when requesting the waitlist. When it came through, they automatically cancelled the first res and booked us into the new resort.

We just didn't want to take the chance with having only some of our days come through and not others. It worked out well for us, less stress, but I still would have been happy with my home resort aswell.

There's also the added issue of what points are being used for your res. If you are using banked points for res #1 and you book res #2 with current UY points, you may or may not be able to "swap" the points when you accept the #2 res. This was our situation and we just weren't willing to get into that mess just to stay at AKV for xmas. :faint:

I guess it all boils down to your tolerance for risk:eek: And how badly you are wanting to stay at a specific resort.
