7-Month Point Reallocation Question

I think I know the answer to this but wanting to confirm. I have a CCV reservation I’ve made within the 7-month window using RIV points. I’m in the process of buying a CCV resale contract that will close in early September with the points hopefully loading sometime that month (all same UY). Once that resale contract closes and the points load, will I be able to reallocate the points for the CCV reservation to use my newly acquired CCV resale points instead of my RIV points? I think the answer is yes, but not 100%. In this case, the new resale points will happen to match the resort for which I used non-home points, but I would presume you could do this same thing with, say, newly acquired SSR or BLT points. Thanks in advance.

Most likely you will not be able to do it yourself as there is probably a lock next to the RIV contract so you won’t be able to uncheck it.

Member services should be able to do it though since it was made inside 7 months.

That’s not quite right. The lock has appeared frequently for me when I have made reservations inside the 7 month window. They can add the contract with no issue but if the lock is there it is pointless as it will use the order of the contracts that are already in a locked state.

I should add for those who may stumble upon this in the future, not you, since I know you know this. You could not do the opposite and reallocate CCV resale into a RIV 7 month booking.

LOL - you would be justified to think so! But, I do not think I can make it there yet. Assuming I go through with my 300 RIV add-on, I think I will have to stop for now .

This is probably true. At the same time, almost every DVC member you meet explains how you WILL want more points. And, I will say, after having just got back from a week split stay in studios, I am like, we will not be doing studios again - we still had a good time, but it just doesn't work well enough for our family. And, I don't think it will be too long before we want 2 bedrooms - so, Disney, here comes more of my money!!

I don't think I can catch the esteemed @VGCgroupie . Perhaps one day I will join that thread. Maybe if I weren't doing so many direct points, I could get there, but the upfront price tag on 600 direct points is going to be enough for me to slow down for a while. At a minimum, need to use these 900 points I have before Oct 2026 (my CCV contract is only 150 points, but it has a 150 of banked points, so 300 to use next year). After that, we'll see where we're at.

I will say, my CCV reservation was showing a lock on one of my RIV contracts. I'm thinking it might be because I originally made a reservation using my RIV points at RIV before the 7-month window and then modified it to CCV once inside the 7-month window. The dates I want at CCV are still completely available, so I went ahead and canceled out the entire reservation and booked a brand new one - no more lock when I go in to modify.

If you take a glance at the main post in the 1000 point club and you will see I am waaayyyy at the bottom. Even before I hit 1000 I would peek around over there every so often. It's fun to see what different resorts people own.

Hopefully it stays that way. In my experience the lock isn’t there for the first couple of days but then it does appear.
Perhaps I’m an anomaly but I wait until 8am at 7 months and make a new reservation. Since I book 1 bedrooms I don’t bother with using the 11 month window to make a placeholder reservations as I would have to do multiple ones across all of my home resorts and the goal is to not have to split stay.
