Does the 7 for 5 deal have to be booked through WDTC (200 deposit and full payment 45 days out) or can it be booked through CRO (1 nights deposit, and balance due at check in)?

I don't know if it can only be booked through wdtc, but I do think it has to have the $200 deposit and paid in full 45 days out. At least that's what I was told when I booked last week. Hope this helps!:)

CRO and the Walt Disney Travel Company have merged into one unit. Your reservation is now made by the Disney Reservation Center.

If you book the 7 for 5 package (or any package - meaning room and admission media together - for that matter), you will have the cancellation/payment policies that were associated with the Walt Disney Travel Company. Which means a $200 deposit is due within 14 days of booking (unless you book online - in which case a $200 deposit is due at the time of booking), cancellation 46 or more days prior to arrival incur no penalty. Cancellations made 6 to 45 days prior to arrival incur a $100 penalty, and cancellation 5 or fewer days prior to arrival incur a $200 penalty. Remaining balance is due 45 days prior to arrival. Any changes to the reservation 21 or fewer days prior to arrival incur a $50 charge.

Because the 7 for 5 promotion is a package deal, you do have to pay a $200 deposit at the time of booking. The remaining balance is due 45 days prior to your arrival date.
