We are planning our first cruise with our DS age 5 and DD age 6 and grandma and grandpa. We would like to go at a time when we can swim and sleep with the verandah door open. If we can go when the Christmas decorations are out, that would be a plus. Then maybe we could spend 3 days in WDW before our cruise. Has anyone gone at this time of year?? How is the weather??

I don't know if it is warm enough in December or early January to swim etc. and which time would you recommend? Is there a site to go to and check weather norms for different times of year??

Thanks for your input!!:Pinkbounc

We chose December 14-21 for our recent family reunion (eastern)cruise. It was the week before Christmas, still considered off season and the price was great! :)

We enjoyed the holiday spirit, ship fully decorated, caroling, tree lighting ceremony, characters dressed in Christmas attire for photo shoots, etc.
I 'think' the decorations may come down after Jan. 1.

The weather was very cool 50* and windy the first day. However, once we left port, the rest of the week was very warm and beautiful w/temps reaching 85*
St. T. & St. M. The water there was slightly cool, but we had a wonderful time swimming. Yes, you could definitely leave your V door open.
Have fun planning! :)

We went twice in December, each time the first full week in December. The first time was cold, windy and a few showers during the sea portion. Had to wear jackets most of the time.

The second time was cool evenings and mornings but beautiful, warm days. Could easily go swimming in the pools and be comfortable. But the water was cool at Castaway Cay. We did get in but it was a bit of a shock at first until you got used to it.

And Christmas is beautiful, I would highly recommend going when the decorations are up. If you want to do a lot of swimming, it's hit and miss when it comes to the weather.

Were you able to sleep with the verandah door open? Or was it too cold??

Weather is a very variable thing...nobody can promise you great weather....but, when we did the Eastern in January, it was most surely warm enough for swimming and sleeping with the balcony doors open.

However, when we did one of our shorter Bahamian Cruises in November...it was kind of cool onboard the ship in the evening and we had a windy, cool day for Castaway Cay.

I would guess that unless there is bad weather predicted, you would do very well with an Eastern Carribean, but don't know about the Western Itinerary?

Anyone????
