7 Dwarfs Mine Train is disappointing

I was underwhelmed. I agree with the above poster, it's worth a 15 minute wait max, although I've only ridden it with FP+.

Did people really think Disney would put a thrill ride smack in Fantasyland? Seriously???

Disney would never do that...(cough, cough, Matterhorn, cough, cough). While the Matterhorn would not qualify as a "thrill ride" today, it was far more of a thrill ride in 1959 than 7DMT is today, proportionately . Indeed, when Disney officially moved the Matterhorn to Fantasyland, (well, they didn't move it--the Lands simply got Gerrymandered), it was the most thrilling ride in all of DL. Right there in Fantasyland. Imagine that.

I originally had planned on adding it to my list but my use the FP for other rides.

Irrespective of where you personally place a ride in your hierarchy of "favorites" it still makes sense to use FP+ in a way that will bypass the longest lines. So even if you come off the ride unimpressed, it is better to use a FP+ here than anywhere else right now (except A&E meet and greet). The only thing worse than walking away unimpressed with an attraction is walking away unimpressed after having waited an hour. One can plan to go at RD. But those plans often fall through. And 5,000 other people might have the same idea and maybe 3,000 of them can walk faster than you.

I felt this way too. I mean it was awesome and I love the animatronics, but it didn't feel like a roller coaster to me. It was so smooth, quiet and short. When I think of a coaster, I think of thrilling and a bit rough. The Barnstormer is even more of a quality roller coaster in terms of how it feels when you're riding it. At least from what I remember. All in all SD is a great attraction, but I think the hype ruined my expectations.

:thumbsup2 I was about to say the same thing. FPs should be selected based on how much time in line they can save you, not on how impressive the ride seems to you. If you plan to do 7DMT, I would definitely get a FP for it if possible.

I seriously cannot believe people are still complaining about this ride. Why would anyone expect some big thrill ride in Fantasyland?? It was always considered to be an intensity level between Big Thunder and Barnstormer, which is exactly what it is.

As you say---55 years ago.

To be fair, the top speed of the 7DMT is reportedly faster than that of Space Mountain. And not everyone who visits WDW combs through these Boards before they go. It is not illogical for someone to think that the newest, most modern coaster on Disney property with a top speed in excess of Space Mountain's would be a more thrilling ride, especially after Disney aired a commercial that sped up the film speed to make it look like people were riding a much faster attraction. And the "it's in Fantasyland" argument simply doesn't work. Disneylands most thrilling attraction was in Fantasyland for decades.

Yes. But proportionality is everything. The argument cannot be made the FL is no place for a thrill ride when Disney's most thrilling ride resided there for decades.

Is it that people are actively seeking out a thrill ride and demonstrating that they would wait for an hour and a half or more to ride it, then complain that it was underwhelming or they expected more?

Or is it that people expect more than "It's okay" from new attractions at WDW?

Or both?

....especially after Disney aired a commercial that sped up the film speed to make it look like people were riding a much faster attraction.....

Whoa...wait. They seriously did that?

And if they did, wouldn't doing so be an acknowledgement that a "thrill ride" would appeal to a much larger base than what they actually had?

They did that, unfortunately. That is about the only "hype" I can accuse Disney itself of being behind. The rest has come from the fan community in my opinion.

Waking an old thread here, but we just got back and wanted to share my thoughts. Splash Mountain is the perfect example of what Disney does very well. Immersive theme, exciting moments and satisfying duration all wrapped up in a story.

Seven Dwarfs doesn't measure up by a long shot. Lots of sparkle, quite literally, but little substance.

Our expectations were pretty low to begin with. I knew it would be short. I didn't imagine it would feel that short. 2 minutes 30 seconds has never felt so short. (Ok, comparing it to 11 minutes of Splash Mountain isn't very fair, but whatever.)

I got the feeling that somewhere along the line someone said "it's really short, so add more diamonds".

For those who have ridden it, they state that the cars
"pivot"....does that keep you from jerking around? I have never really liked any roller coaster because of the jerking around. I will probably ride it in October when I go just to say I did.\
