7 Dwarfs Mine Train is disappointing

The theming Disney did for this ride is outstanding. I admire all the small details in the landscaping. I haven't been on it yet but I agree it should have been longer and have at least one more dark scene. I love Disney's dark rides. I was very disappointed when Disney removed Horizons at Epcot and put Mission Space there instead. World of Motion too. The next dark/thrill ride I would like to see Disney built is "Journey to the Center of the World," like the one in Tokyo. That would be a great ride to please everyone.

I thought it was cute. I like the indoor part. I was surprised at how tight the seating was. I expected it to be more size friendly than it was. I'd have hated to be really tall Mom or Dad trying to squeeze into one of those cars.

But I'd never wait more than 30 minutes for it. Thank goodness for FP. Otherwise I'd have never have ridden it.

This is how I feel about this ride as well as TSMM. They are very popular with families and therefore very crowded but as rides they are sort of average.

I thought it was fine....my 4 year old loved it. I loved that my 4 year old loved it ....and I think that is what they were going for. "it's so smooth daddy" ....the bumpiness and loudness of barnstormer is unsettling for my daughter.

We went on it 4 times opening day at RD and with rider swaps. We LOVED it. Smooth and fun. I never once got the impression it was suppose to be more than it was from disney blogs or any official announcements. Everyone else was just speculation. A funny stat DH pointed out was it's too speed is clocked at 34mph http://www.coaster101.com/2014/05/29/magic-kingdoms-seven-dwarfs-mine-train-opens/

And BGTMRR is clocked anywhere from 20-35mph max depending on what site you're looking at. http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/coasters/bigthunder_disneyw

So for thrills I'm sure there's more engineering to it than that regarding drops etc. For my crew it was much improved over BTMRR jerking and we have crowned the 4th mountain as our family favorite.

Just wondering how your rope drop experience went? We're you on one of the first few rides? I saw that the line was huge Wi immediately. Thanks

RD went smooth. And this is with a 4yo and 6month in a double city mini stroller. We were at the RIGHT side of the entrance close to the large tree planter and far enough back to see the opening show. Walked through and stayed to the RIGHT and went down main street on the sidewalk. Prior to the castle go RIGHT past Merida and by the tea cups to the entrance of 7dmt which is right across from Poohs exit. If you go through the castle with the horde you're easily getting in line way behind those who veered right and likely an hour wait right off the bat. DH and DD were off by 9:06. I went back with a RS and was out by 9:20. I happened to have left over RS from the Sunday prior (they all said Sat May 31 for some reason like RS were being printed in batches for the week so we saved some and used on other days) to opening day and with those we rode twice more that night. It was our only Must-Do on our last park day and still rode like 8 other things before noon.

The interactive queue is great and a good model for future attractions and refurbishments of current attractions (although I think Disney needs to change their approach and describe the attraction as beginning where you enter the building). But I've been skeptical about the "swinging" mine cars since seeing the first images of how high above the center of gravity the pivot point is; to keep the cars from being unstable they have to bank the track enough on turns to keep them from swinging. This pretty much negates the feature. The first hand reports I've read here appear to confirm this, everyone reports that they don't notice the cars swinging during the ride.
I see your point.....when I ride I'm going to try to make the car swing!! :rotfl:

Thank you....I always wanted some stats for 7DMT!! :thumbsup2

"The coaster features a unique ride system that allows the mine cars to sway back and forth throughout the 2,000-foot-long course. The ride is family-friendly, featuring a mild 41-foot drop and a top speed of 34 mph."

Not bad!! The Barnstormer goes 25 miles per hour and is 679 feet!! Big Thunder goes 30 miles per hour and is 2780 feet! 7DMT is right in the middle. :)

Thanks! Sounds like a plan..I have always done fine with toy story and soarin at park opening...but was a little worried about this.thanks again

That's great! Nice to hear it is quiet and smooth for kids.

Hype or no hype, the reason my family keeps going back (DVC/AP) even though we have some very nice amusement parks near us is because of rides like this. My kids can go on probably 75% of the stuff at Disney and by age 2when both kids hit the magic 40" mark (yes they are tall) they could go on all but 1 or 2 rides in each park. When I take my 2 year old to Hershey Park, there are very few rides he can go on that aren't the usual "ride a vehicle that goes in a circle around a center pole variety" and even less rides that our whole family can experience together.

While I understand the want and need to add bigger, innovative, thrilling rides, I also think Disney knows exactly who their market is. People like my family. Who want to somewhere that we can do a variety of attractions together as a family. I do think now that the Fantasy Land expansion is complete that they can hopefully add a few more adult attractions. It appears Avatar Land will probably be the logical spot to do so at this point.

It has officially been open for a week. It isn't "old news".

OP, get ready for the pitchforks and torches.

I assume kaybird is referring to the fact that there is already a long thread on this same topic; heck, it practically has the same title. ;)

It was supposed to be an awesome dark ride with awesome animatronics with an exciting, if not too fast, roller coaster. It was supposed to be like Peter Pan had a kid with Pirates of the Caribbean while riding Thunder Mountain. It was none of those things. Sure the Dwarfs are kinda cool, but they last like 15 seconds. The roller coaster is lame, there is no real "dark ride" immersion at all. The dwarf scene in the mine is all there is, then you're outside on a kiddie coaster. This was supposed to be The Big One. We waited 3 years for this. Once the hype dies down you're going to see this as a walk on, kinda like Under The Sea has been once that hype died down.

Totally agree...not sure what took so long. A great disappointment...it is far too short.

Sorry . . . we enjoyed it. Its a family ride in Fantasyland - hope people don't expect EE.

I know this is an old thread but I have to say the idea of this being any sort of thrill ride with the Seven Dwarves is pretty funny to me.

Funny we found &DMT to be all those things.....hands down.

Certainty better then the new HP with MORE videos then ride! Not to mention that it continues to break down all the time.

WOW! What a refreshingly original thought! So glad you felt the need to start a new thread... and not just contribute to the other 4,000 threads dedicating to complaining about the Mine Train.

I was never supposed to be a thrill ride ....it was supposed to be and is, a Family Coaster, with excellent theming and over the top effects.
