7/9/11 - Summer Magic in the Med

We are trying to decide about the Pompeii/Sorrento/Capri tour as well. Pompeii is the requirement for us and I've wanted to see Capri for years. DH is intrigued by the 4x4 trip to Vesuvius and Pompeii and Wine tasting. After much reading about the summer traffic, I'm a little worried about non Disney options.
It seems like there is a great deal of availability if you try to book our cruise. Maybe we just have a bunch of very hyper planners?

There was an article on MSNBC yesterday on this exact trip. We have booked it, thought it looked like a fun time. Here is the link to the story;

In case it doesn't work the title was, "Touring the ancient devastation of Pompeii" and it was in the family section of the travel section of yesterday's MSNBC site.

Sorry to do this in such a disjointed way, we have been getting so excited for the trip I just jumped right in in.

I just noticed the comment about arriving too early to check into the hotel. THe last time we were in Barcelona we were in that position. It turned out that we could drop off our luggage at the hotel and they would lock it up. We went touring and came back later and checked in. Worked out well.

We should figure out a cruise meet for the first or second day and we need someone to be in charge of teh fish extender.

We are a family of three from Los Angeles, CA. We are DVC members travelling partially on points, second cruise with Disney (first the Mexican Riviera).
Even though I check out this site for tips, I don't post much and can't get my techno-phobic wife to take over. So please forgive any faux paus, I promise I mean well!
Our party is me (Paul), wife and daughter (11) who is extremely excited about the Edge club. I'd love to be able to introduce her to some other kids around her age early on.
I don't know what a Fish Extender is but am willing to learn.

So glad to see you join the cruise and you will be near us with your 11 yr old daughter. Our daughter made some great friends on the last cruise that she still talks with, and she is very anxious to meet some new friends this time around.

Regarding the fish extender, it is great fun and the kids really like it. You simply hang a bag / basket / other item from these fish hooks next to your door. When you join the fish extender list, you plan on bringing a small gift item for everyone on the list and put it in their door hanger during the cruise.

Does anyone have information on exactly what docks we are at for each of the ports? It would be helpful to know for arranging some of our own excursions.

Hi All,
Tomorrow is our date for being allowed to book DCL excursions etc on-line -along with all the other first timers! Should I be ready to try and book asap and if so when is that? I've just got a date -the 25th. Would booking be opened just after midnight 'Florida' time -if so I think that's 5am here!

I'm sure I'll be looking for help posting a picture too but first I need to buy a new camera -current one is on it's last legs. Then I need to persuade DS to pose and smile- no easy task. He's always smiling unless there's a camera around.

I hope this is just a typing error. When I log into 'my reservation' on DCL and then in to 'cruise details' it clearly states Day 5 Civitavecchia, Day 6 Naples. Have I missed something? Has anyone else noticed this? Elsewhere on the site the days are as originally ie Naples then Rome.
I suppose it's only really important if you're booking private tours/tickets etc. It doesn't make sense but I just wondered with the change in Naples port times whether our route miight have been changed.

I saw that this morning as well. It must have been a website error as it is back to the original itinerary now... Thank goodness.

I don't think it would hurt to get up early to book your planned excursions - you never know what others have in mind.

Hi all!

Stayed up very late last night to book our shore excursions/spa indulgences! I was pleasantly surprised to see that most of our first choices were available. The big disappointment was the lack of the "Angels and Demons" tour in Rome and the "Cooking in Tuscany" tour. DH was looking forward to these tours more than any other. Booking the spa appointments was much more challenging. As a first-timer the openings were very limited....but I can feel the relaxation setting in already as it is all BOOKED!

Can anybody tell me how the billing works for the shore excursions? I'd like to get them on to the Credit Card and paid before we leave. Is this even possible? Should I try to load up our Shipboard Credit instead so that it is essentially "prepaid"??

This is one excited household. I don't think a day goes by where we don't talk about the cruise and all the adverntures. It will come (and go) so quickly!!

Welcome Brewcrew138! I'll get your info added ASAP. On our last Med cruise we went to Monreale, Segesta and the Capuchin Catacombs. It was a great tour. You can see what we're doing this year on the cruise website.
