$7.50 alternative to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

Thanks for the Bath and Body Works tip. My DD at age 4 won't know the difference. She'll think that's what every one else did. Plus, she'll be able to have it more than one day.

I think it's a great idea, I'm going to BBW tomorrow when the little one goes back to preschool!

The day before our summer vacation in 2005 DD, then 4, locked herself in the bedroom and begged me not to come in yet - she was "making herself beautiful like Ms. Brandy" the live-in college student who lends me a hand with her. I was suspicious but thought it cute so I obeyed jokingly with a warning that she had two more minutes before I crashed down the door.

Yep, you'd think after almost 30 years of parenting I'd have known better but hey, this is the last, and a perfect princess since birth.
Well, little did I know that my perfect princess had scissors in there with her. When the door opened her beautiful hip length hair was cut shorter than any of the boys in her preschool class almost all the way around her head. The bangs looked as though they'd had a 1/2 inch buzz cut as did the area above one of her ears. I was devastated and confess I didn't handle it well at all. There were lots of tears - mostly mine. :lmao:

With such short notice nobody I trusted to even attempt to fix it could fit her in so off we went to wdw with the most uneven ragged head you'd ever seen. I dreaded taking pictures and the trip was off to a very stressful start.

One of our first stops after checking in was the MK Barbershop. I'm not sure how they did it but by the time they were finished, I had almost begun to look on the whole trauma as a wonderful magical experience. Somehow DD's hair was trimmed to even things up and made presentable. It was still short, very short - no silhouette showing that lovely long ponytail like her sister's did as originally planned, we'll always know which of the girls is which now when we look at those - but we survived thanks to an awesome job by the lady in the MK who finished it up with a touch of pixie dust, color and the crown & coaches glitter that had everyone we met that day complimenting DD on her hair.
It was just what we both needed. I'd swear that pixie dust must really have been magical in the end.

Even though she'd technically given herself her first haircut the day before, she received a certificate and her own set of 1st haircut mouse ears. Dad got a haircut too, while her big sister and the infamously beautiful Ms Brandy were sprinkled with pixie dust, for a magical day in the park and a photo-filled vacation saved by the Main Street Barber Shop CMs!

I searched and found this thread...I remember reading it months ago. We're going in a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone had been and tried to get the pixie dust sprinkling/hair paint since BBB opened up? I don't want to mention to my DDs if it's not a possibility and BBB is not in our trip budget.

I wanted to answer your origianal question. And, to mention how suprised I was to see my old thread back at the top of the boards! :) A fellow Diser, Stephres. posted pictures on the Disboutique thread (over on the Families board) of her daughter with the barber shop treatment a few weeks ago. I think she said it cost $7 now, but they are still doing it. And, I must say her daughter looked absolutely ADORABLE :lovestruc .

That story made me teary! How wonderful how things worked out in the end! Do you have any pictures?

In October '07 we went and had ds1's first hair cut and they did the spray and glitter for both of my big kids for free. We didn't ask, they just offered. Dd is 7 and ds is 6 with a spikey 'do and they both loved it!

I know this may sound cheesy, but Bath and Body works have these little cans of spray body/hair glitter in a few different scents. They spray on very nice and are really pretty, pixie dust style. I bought a few cans (on sale now for $5.00) and used it on my DD(14) for New Year Eve. I did a little quick up do and sprayed this in her hair, and added a few fun rhinestone bobby pins! It looked so cute. Even though she's 14 she still wants to go to BBB this March, I told her I could do the same thing in the hotel room with my can of spray! She didnt think that was too funny.. I wish I took a picture of her hair, I didnt even think about it.

That sounds like a great idea! My dd8 is always asking for pink hair or pixie dust in her hair. Would you happen to know the exact name of the spray? I can't seem to find it on the BBW website, i'm sure i'm not searching for it correctly. Thanks!

We went and did this in November. Both my dd10 and ds7 had it done. It was $10 for both of their hair and I gave them a $5 tip.

My kiddos loved it. My dd made sure she kept all her pixie dust to save for home.

I did this for DD on our last trip. She got the princess hairstyle and it was so cute. This was even before the Boutique opened up. People in the park asked who did her hair.

Once I said the barber shop, they were shocked to know it was real. Most thought it was part of the atmosphere.

DD got a haircut, style, pixie dust, certificate and mickey ears. It was the highlight of our trip and something I'll never forget for her first visit to Disney.

I think that I will get my hair cut while I'm there. I haven't had my hair cut since last spring. Usually I get it cut in the spring and in the fall but just haven't done it this past year. So we will be there in the spring and I will have it done then and DD can get hers done then as well. I don't want sparkles in my hair but DD would love that.

The price is now $7.50 for gel and pixie dust. The lady told me that they raised their prices when BBB came to MK. It is still a great bargain. I had all 3 of my girls hair done last week and they got so many compliments. I thought it looked better than BBB.

Thanks for the updated information! My daughter just loved it when we did it in May! I think part of it was the whole pampering thing! They really took quite a bit of time to style her hair and put in the gel and glitter.

Thank you for the update! I knew someone here on the Dis would know the answer! THanks to all who posted! I think I'm going to Bath/Body works tomorrow to get some glitter spray too...why not?

They have done that to my daughter before too, but this was a complete hairdo. They brushed it, braided it, sprayed it, sparkled it, pinned it, confettied it, painted it, sprayed it somemore and then put on the little castle confettis. In other words, she go pampered!

Holy Moly....they did all that for $5.00????? That might be THE bargain in WDW, :rotfl2:

Anyone know what they charge for just a trim? My daughter's long long hair has a lot of split ends and uneven on the bottom, but I wouldn't want them to do anything but clean up that edge. Her dad would kill me if they actually cut it.

This looks like a lot of fun....do you need an appointment for the braiding/spraying/sparkling? And where actually IS the barber shop (our first trip is next month).

Thanks!

My DD (she's 2) got her hair cut (trimmed) and she also got an adorable updo with glitter gel and confetti. She looked ADORABLE!!!! We paid $15 for everything. I will do this in lieu of BBB for the next few years!

No, you don't need an appointment. It's first come, first served. They only cut 2 at a time, so it's usually crowded. We try to go first thing when there's little to no wait.

When you walk under the Train Station and through the square, it's on your left hand side, right next to the big store on the left hand corner at the beginning of Main Street USA(the name escapes me now). It's also right near where the horses are kept.

We plan to fo this on our upcoming trip. Having 4 girls in our group this time BBB would just be way to expensive.

Do they still do this? We will be in Disney on Monday(8/11) for the Princess dinner and my girls would love this - especially if they do the updo. Will it hold for 6 hours?
Thanks!
Kari

They still do hair, but no longer will put up the girls' hair into a ponytail bun style. The gal said it was because of BBB. I guess they have figured out that this is an alternative option for those people not wanting to spend so much money. My girls were dissappointed when she told them this, because their hair looked so cute the trip before. She went ahead and volunteered to do this anyway, but said that if she was caught she would be fired! :scared1: I believe the price went up to $6.oo. Hope this helps.

I wanted to share one more picture.

I had taken Lydia (our 4 yo) to get some of the characters autographs while Brian (dh) got his picture taken. When I walked into the barber shop, this is what I saw:
WHAT-ARE-YOU-DOING-------.jpg

I was a little panicked until Brian told me they were just putting glitter and paint in her hair, and NOT cutting it!

Love your picture! Beverline cut my DGD's hair (1st haircut) and then last year she gave DGS HIS first haircut!!!
